Al Horford and the Dominican Republic fell to Russia in the second game of the preliminary round of the FIBA Olympic Qualifier Tournament by a score of 84-69. They will however advance to the quarterfinals on Friday where they will take on Macedonia. The top three finishers from the tournament will earn spots in the London Olympics.
Horford once again led the way for the Dominican Republic with 22 points and nine rebounds. He was efficient yet again hitting 10 of 13 field goal attempts. Jack Michael Martinez added 13 points and 12 boards.
Andrei Kirilenko led Russia with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Vitaliy Fridzon also scored 16 while Viktor Khryapa added 14. Alexander Kaun rounded out Russia scorers in double figures with 10 points.
Teams will enjoy an off day on Thursday before beginning the elimination round on Friday. The tournament semifinals are scheduled for Saturday with the championship game taking place on Sunday.
