I saw the post about the Hinrich trade to the lakers posted earlier today and I liked it except for the fact that it still leaves us short one big man in the rotation.
So I came up with this trade:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7qrg4zw
Basically we package, the first round pick from the lakers trade with Marvin Williams and send it to new orleans for Chris Kaman. The first round pick can be replaced by darius morris if the hornets agree to it. (I honestly don't know if Morris is more or less value than a late first rounder pick)
Upside: we get a legitimate big man and even better a legitimate center and we get to dump marvin's contract for cap room next summer
Downside: Kaman is a free agent who the ASG is unlikely to pay(for tax purposes) so there is a possibility we end up losing marvin and hinrich with nothing more than darius morris to show for it (which may not be the worst thing in the world, considering ASG and their fear of the tax line)
Last, hypothetical (dream scenario) note, if we pull the trigger on this trade we are down to 52 million in salary. Amnesty joe and you have roughly 28 million in cap space to spend on a center/guard combo, like for example...
Dwight Howard and Ray Ray/OJ Mayo/JET or...............
Deron Williams/ Eric Gordon and Kaman/ Brook Lopez/ Roy Hibbert/ Javale McGee (I know it sound weird but on a good team with a great point like D-will he cud be very useful)
and if they can lose Zaza's contract they could go after the D-howard/D-will combo
/end dream scenario
so what do you think?
Poll
Would you take the first rounder from the lakers or go for Kaman and cap space next season?
Lakers first rounder, because a first rounder in a deep draft is worth two hypothetical free agents in the bush (15 votes)
Kaman and free agency, coz then we can win a championship this year and build a dynasty next year (5 votes)
I don't know, but I would cut off my foot saw style before the ASG would eat Joe's massive contract (12 votes)
