Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

"You can ask my coach right now. You can ask [GM] Rick [Sund]. I’ve never asked those guys to trade me. Never. I understand that trades are part of this league and part of this business. If Rick and LD think there is something that can better suit the Atlanta Hawks and I’m involved in that package, I completely understand that. But I’ve never walked in there and asked those guys to trade me. I’ve never said that. To see what people wrote about me and said about me, man. The thing that hurts the most is no one even called and asked me. No one asked me ‘Did you say that?’ You are the first person to ask me."

The next time someone reports Marvin Williams wants out maybe should ask him first

This is what happens when someone who doesn’t pay attention to the Hawks acts like they know everything. For the record I am not talking about Broussard.

I've used the term "Class act" to talk about white athletes before

I’ve used it to describe John Smoltz, Chipper Jones, Matt Ryan, and Mike Smith, among others.

There’s even more stealth racist terms that I see used.

If he’s “Well-spoken,” you know he’s black, and basically they’re saying he doesn’t sound like someone straight out of the hood. I’ve never heard a white athlete described as “Well-spoken.”

If a guy is “gritty, scrappy” or better yet, “gets the most out of his talent,” he’s absolutely a white guy.

I’ve almost never heard a white athlete described as “Explosive,” except maybe in an unusual variation when they talk about white baseball players with lots of power-but only specifically about the guy’s power, not his overall game.

Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

"Well-Spoken"

I heard that today on ESPN. Someone used it to describe RG3

I believe Marvin

He is that kind of man.
No matter what we think he is as a player, I believe him

It hurts because almost everybody wanted him out and just ran with it. Marvin will not get equal value back though it was fun to fantasize for a while that we could make a big trade.

I must be in the almost category.

Marvin is not utilized well on this team, never has been. I know that his early draft status has always caused him to be looked at as a bust, and probably never will live up to that billing.
What He does bring is a balanced game, and a good work ethic. His body control around the rim is lacking, so driving to the hoop in an Iso happy offense will never work. He can move without the ball though, so pick-and-roll or drive and dish to him for the 3, does work. He is also a good one-on-one defender and can give you a handfull of rebounds.
Marvin will continue to be the fourth or fifth option, offensively on this team, but He is as well rounded as any Hawk.

so pick-and-roll or drive and dish to him for the 3. Come on man We do that often. He gets closed out on and then cant manage to score off the 2 dribbles.

Marvin is a very smart and classy guy. Even without a post game or a passing game he has scoring potential.

Again

He’s being crucified in the ATL media because his draft pick. He no more had anything to do with that than you had in choosing your parents. At the end of the day he’s human and I’m sure he was hurt by the whole ordeal.
