S&G Trade Scenario for Pau Gasol

Since news in LaLa Land has reported that the Lakers are still shopping Pau Gasol I came up with a trade scenario that could improve the Hawks and also help the Lakers.

Star-divide

Here is the scenario:

Hawks receive: Pau Gasol

Lakers receive: Josh Smith, Kirk Hinrich

Josh is an outstanding player and I think he is the main reason the Hawks are semi relevant team, but I also believe the Hawks have to start taking some chances with trades. I think the Hawks have grown as much as they possibly can from within, it is now time to make moves to grow even more. This would also allow Horford to play his natural 4 position when he returns and would also cut about 2 mil from the payroll.

Lineup:

Jeff Teague, Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Pau Gasol, Zaza Pachulia; Pargo, Green, McGrady, VladRad, Ivan

When/if Al returns for playoffs:

Teague, Johnson, Williams, Horford, Gasol; Pargo, Green, McGrady, Vlad, Zaza

Better Idea

Trade JJ for Gasol and a pick (maybe throw in Collins).

Pre Horford Lineup: Teague, Hinrich, Josh Smith, Zaza, Gasol: McGrady, Marvin, Ivan, Pargo, Green, Vlad Rad

With Horford back: Teague, Hinrich, Josh Smith, Horford, Gasol: Zaza, McGrady, Marvin, Ivan, Pargo, Green, Vlad Rad

Considering LA would play Smith at the 3 and Hawks are renowned for pre-annointing players. Looks Great for Both Teams.

sf Josh Smith + PF Jon Leuer/Ryan Anderson/Renardo Sidney/Dirk Nowitzki > sf Josh Smith + sf Marvin Williams
----
* {#40 Pick Perimeter F Jon Leuer is better than Marvin Williams and Hinrich cost us the pick}

Not happening.

Would atleast take Josh and Al to get Pau. Just like it would likely take Boozer and Noah for the Bulls

Is there a way!

We could throw Marvin in this trade for Gasol?

If the LA Lakers don’t want Gasol, that should tell you something: he’s not the answer. He also has a huge contract which wouldn’t help revamp the roster when the Hawks inevitably flamed out in the playoffs. Gasol for Johnson would be worth considering. The Hawks can find better trades for Smith.

Ehhh...

Well, I keep seeing stuff that says Josh wants out. Joe has an awful contract and if we don’t want to be saddled with that, we need to package him with Josh to get value. That being said, the Lakers might not be the best trade partner, but if we get a big man, we need to go after Bynum rather than Pau. Al needs to move to his natural position: PF, and putting Pau at Center isn’t any better.

I’d rather see a package of Teauge, Johnson, and Smith for Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, and JJ Reddick. I think it’d be worth it to get the best Center in the game, and the Magic would do it because no one could match that deal on value. That might just be me though…
