2012 Atlanta Hawks Schedule: Four Game Home Stretch Begins Against Memphis
After returning from an exhausting road-trip, the Atlanta Hawks prepare to open a four-game home stretch that begins Thursday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. Here is a look at the next five games and as you can see the Hawks will host rematches with Philadelphia and Indiana over the next week.
Following the home stand, Atlanta will head to Orlando for its first matchup against the Magic this season and then return home on Sunday, February 12 for a date with the Heat. After that home game, Atlanta will hit the road for another five-game road trip which includes stops out west against the Lakers, Suns, and Trail Blazers before heading back East to take on the Bulls and the Knicks.
There is still a lot of basketball left to be played this season but this month could help determine whether or not the Hawks are going to be able to remain in the top half of the Eastern Conference race.
Exit Question: What do you think the Hawks record will be in February? Let us know in the comments.

Let's look at it in segments
First 4 games in ATL, record 2-2 (I be ecstatic with a 3-1 record).
Second set of 9 games, record will be 5-4 (I be ecstatic with 6-3)
I predict overall record of 7-6 for the month of February.
Anything more, is a huge achievement
At the end of the month, many questions about the Hawks will be answered
That is fair but lets hope for 3-1 at home
Got to protect the homecourt

Agreed
Here is what I have,
wins vs Memphis and Suns. Losses vs. Pacers and Sixers.
Then on the 9 game set:
wins vs. Orlando twice, at NY, at Suns, and vs. Golden State. Losses at Lakers, vs. Heat, at Chicago, at Portland,
So we beat all the crap teams and lose to everone in the east with a winning record?
If this turns out to be true, we can stop the “elite” talk and remove ourselves from anyone’s power rankings
I believe Orlando has a winning record
And I put them in category of wins for Hawks (twice)
I try to stay away from discussions of elite vs. non-elite.
We find out soon enough in Feb where we stand.
Remember, last year, no one thought Chicago was elite, because they had never won anything. They just kept winning and winning. By the end of season, most analysts believed Chicago to be among top 2-3 in the East. And they proved that trust.
If we are elite, our record and winning will prove that to us and outsiders both this month.
I think they need a win against the Sixers or the Pacers this go around
I am particularly interested to see if they come out with a chip on their shoulder against the Pacers since Indy seems to be taking those matchups personal of late

Yes for both Indy and Sixers they are trying to prove they are the new teams that need to be looked at as East powers
I would think with Lion in lineup, Hawks are still ahead.
Without Lion and no back-up center, my confidence is just not high in those match-ups
No chance we lose to Philly and Indy at home.
Maybe one but not both.

Agree with this
The 76ers will face us on the back end of a back-to-back after playing the Heat the night before. They’ll be playing three games in 4 nights against the Bulls, Heat, and then us, so we really should have a good chance against them. And the 76ers are only a .500 road team-they’re very dangerous at home, but not as much on the road.
The Bulls are a dangerous road team, and so are the Pacers. So are the Thunder. But the Heat? They’re only 6-4 on the road. They’ve lost games in Milwaukee (without Bogut), Golden State, Denver, and at the Clippers. So I think we even have a chance to knock them off at home. Here’s how I see this month playing out:
home vs. Grizzlies: W
home vs. 76ers: W
home vs. Suns: W
home vs. Pacers: L
At Magic: L
home vs Heat: W
At Lakers: L
At Suns: W (big opportunity for a let-down, here)
At Portland: L
At Bulls: L (but I think this will be a very tight game)
At Knicks: W
home vs. Magic: W
home vs. Warriors: W
8-5 on the month.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

I like this
but the sky will be falling around here if this team loses four straight

That's entirely possible
But then, we might be able to temper it a little bit. While it’s possible there’s a let-down against the Suns, or a home loss to the Heat (who, again, aren’t that great a road team), there’s even a best case scenario where we could pick up wins in Orlando, and at home against the Pacers, and maybe even against the Bulls if we show up that night. Regarding that Bulls game, it would be tough, and they’ll probably have Deng back by then, and there are nights when Derrick Rose has a jumpshot and everything is falling when they’re impossible to beat. Still, the only two games that I think are definitely going to be losses are the games at the Lakers, and at Portland.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

I agree I think you may be right.
You can join me in holding up umbrellas around here also during that road trip

It is hard to beat good teams on the road...
Ask the “Elite” Bulls and the “Elite” Heat….Who are supposed to be in a class by themselves.
We will go at least go 3-1.
My missive to Bill Simmons
I realize I shouldn’t care what he thinks, but I do. I read his Book of Basketball, and I know he is a very knowledgeable and passionate NBA fan, which is what makes me so frustrated that he doesn’t take the time to understand or appreciate the Hawks.
-———
Simmons,
The national media continually ignores the Hawks, but I would expect a real basketball fan such as yourself to be different. First, you crapped on us in your “closest to the pin” podcast by projecting in the low 30s for our win total (I’m not going to bother to listen to it again to determine your exact prediction). Your reasoning? We lost JAMAL CRAWFORD — you indefensibly placed value in an inconsistent, selfish, streaky scorer who was such a defensive liability that he might as well have cherry-picked on every play so he could get the long outlet pass and run his patented “22-second-iso-contested-long-jumper” play. Replacing him with T-Mac, Willie Green, and Vlad-rad was scoffed at by the media at large, but they have provided solid, unselfish, and consistent play. It’s no wonder that our ball-movement, assists, and clean looks have skyrocketed this season. Well, we’re on pace for a 48-win season (60 in 82! Unsustainable, I realize), and we’ll hit your joke par 3 prediction by mid-March. Also, beyond your ignorance of the Hawks generally, your denigrating the fan base is particularly maddening. You were on a podcast with House, a fan of the most laughable and worst fan-supported team in the NBA! I can’t believe that I had to hear more about Jevale McGee and the Clowns than a top-4 team in the East.
The latest injustice came in your 20 Questions, Part I column, in the question about point guards. Without a doubt, the most significant factor for the Hawks’ success this sesaon has been Jeff Teague, who is also an MIP candidate. The guy’s speed rivals that of Ty Lawson, he’s a creator and a scorer, and he’s become such a good floor general that it has made us fans laugh uncontrollably that we used to watch Mike Bibby scoot ass-first down the court and pretend to play dead on defense. Teague belongs firmly in your “we’re blessed with” category, and I’m incredulous that you even mention guys like Calderon, Felton, Evans, etc. without giving any props to JT. You even have a footnote explaining Jameer Nelson’s omission — REALLY? Though his stats aren’t jaw-dropping, Teague’s biggest contribution is on the defensive end, where he is capable of putting the clamps on the likes of D-Rose (as he did in the Hawks’ convincing win over the Bulls). You must make this right.
Look, everyone is trying to explain the Hawks’ solid play since Horford went out, with the most common theme being the weak schedule. I’ll concede that it has been favorable, but we went through 9 in 12 days, played the Heat and Bulls four times, beat each once, should’ve beat each twice, went 4-1 on a geographically insane roadtrip, and continue to blow out bad and mediocre teams and play with or beat “contenders.” The Hawks’ are tied with Miami and Philly for the 2nd best record in the East, only 1 game behind the Bulls. Also, if Josh Smith doesn’t make the All-Star team this year, I will use my enormous power and influence to make this country stop watching the NBA and not bat an eye when the League goes on strike — oh, wait.

8-5
Losses to MEM, @LAL, @CHI, @POR, and MIA. Wins against everyone else.
twitter.com/fakericksund
7-6 with a strong chance for 8-5
Tonight’s game will be tough, but a win will go a long way toward securing a successful month. Also, wins against Phoenix are key — we can sweep them but will need to show up both games. I also think we can sweep Orlando. They’re a mess right now and we’re getting them at the right time. Add on wins against Golden State and NYK, and that gets us to 7 wins for the month.
itd be great to beat the pacers and sixers
and magic, still hate those guys
Ivan Johnson does not buy ground beef, he just takes a whole cow, runs it through his beard, and fully cooked hamburgers come out.
Well it we are to beat them, this is the chance
They are both coming off tough games, so it will be the second of back to backs for Pacers and Sixers. This is the opportunity for Hawks to win against these two and pay them back. Let’s hope that can happen.
Sixers have a back to back with us after playing Heat the night before.
Pacers have a back to back with us after playing Utah the night before.
Neither of those games are easy for Sixers and Pacers. So timing is good.
I havent been watching knicks games
but why are they so bad this year?
Ivan Johnson does not buy ground beef, he just takes a whole cow, runs it through his beard, and fully cooked hamburgers come out.
Many reasons
Amare and Melo don’t really compliment each other, no one plays defense, low percentage shooters. I watched them a few times and it seemed since they got Chandler, Amare turned into Josh Smith. He was taking a lot of outside shots.
I think they tried to be Miami Heat 2.0 by signing a bunch of big name free agents. Unfortunately they all play defense like Mike Bibby
The non-Teague factor
They got no point guards. I mean they got Bibby and Toney Douglas and they hope to get Baron Davis. But right now, they got no point guards.
That is affecting Stoudemire’s play IMO. Together with Melo hugging the ball and sucking most nights, they been a mess
That's why they should've kept Chauncey.
They’ll get a little better with Baron Davis out there

I'm leaning toward 7-6 or 6-7.
W- Mem., Pho, Indy, @Pho, @N.Y., Orl, G.S
L – Phil, @Orl, Mia, @L.A., @Por, @Chi
The game I see that could go from a W to a L is the Knicks game.
I think we win the Philly game and even the LA game. Possibly lose any or all of Indy, @Pho, @NY. Either way, I agree with the 7-6/6-7 prediction.
And even with that we’d be 10 games over .500 at the end of this rough stretch.
Rep our team!!!
Need my Hawks/Falcons fans to show up at 11 Alive new station Sunday night. We will be LIVE on tv repping our teams! #GOHAWKS!

9-4 or 10-3
it seems we are forgetting to factor in our bench. Maybe last year predicted 7-6 or 8-5 would have been honest, but the bench has made our entire team look better and we should EXPECT a better record.

I want wins against Philadelphia and Indiana at home
We lost on the road, but the Indiana game was when Al got hurt. Traditionally we play them better and while they have a front court advantage we should dominate their backcourt right now. Up in Philadelphia we dominated a good portion of the first half and then buckled under their defensive pressure in the 2nd. This time I don’t expect the players to “quit” nor do I expect the coaches to sit back and watch the game turn without making adjustments. Philly also has only played 8 road games so far going 4-4. I think it might be fair to call them a different team on the road.
I’m sure I’ll get greedy when the other games come up, but right now I want to return serve on those 2 teams even more than the upcoming Miami and Chicago games.
