A couple of trades
1. Smoove and Hinrich for Pau Gasol, Josh Mcroberts, Steve Blake and Lakers first rounder
Originally I wanted this to be and Al and Hinrich for Pau and the lakers first rounder but that would mean the Lakers are admitting that they are tanking this season and I dont think that happening. Sooooo....I threw in Smoove and McBob.
Now I may be overestimating Pau but I think he still has a couple of years left in him and escaping from under Kobe might help him. On a side note, I would insist on both Pau and McBob. No deal if we dont get back two big men. The lakers first rounder is a sweetener for the Hawks since Pau seems like he's past his prime, Josh is younger and he's also very good bait for Dwight Howard. Steve Blake can be kept or removed from the trade based on your point of view. Hes shown that he can be a decent rotation guard but hes been crap the past two seasons so it could go either way and I dont think the Lakers would mind getting rid of the three years on his contract considering what he's given them.
2. Al Horford for Emeka Okafor +exchange first round picks hawks pick for minny pick
This is based on: a) Al may not be back in time/ be healthy enough to be a contributing member in the playoffs. and b) with one more big man we could really make some noise in the playoffs this year.
I dont know if the Hornets/Stern would agree to the pick swap but considering that we are losing the better player i think its more than fair especially since the minny pick is losing value quickly.

That team just needs a good pg and they’ll be fine.

No
I meant to say if they trade Gasol for Al. That move would say they are tanking the season. As constructed they still look like they are trying but I’m not convinced they are a legitimate threat not unless they can:
1. Get Gasol more easy looks
2. Get a point guard with a pulse
True but I don't see them blowing it up
Doing so would lead to a Bryant exit and many ramifications. If Gasol or Bynum go out then they are expecting Dwight Howard in return.

Maybe they wont blow it up completely...
….but as far as i can see, their best long term move is to target Dwight Howard. And bringing in Josh can only help. And in the process if they patch up the PG hole, I dont think its a bad trade for them. They lose the size advantage they had but their athleticism goes way up. In fact, if you dont include the lakers first rounder I’m inclined to think the lakers would get the better deal long term.
I think before long someone has got to go
Either Josh or Al. Not because of their talent, but because of salary. Josh is going to be a free agent after next year, a lot of team are stocked with a lot of cap space and both players play the same position. Teague is evolving and will need to take more shots. However….
Hawks would be CRAZY AS HELL to make a trade now! They are one game out of first place! Marvin’s playing better, Smooth is playing better, Teague is playing better and more consistently, bench has been like a fantasy come true (remember Mario West people)… why make a major trade. ASG is not stupid. They are not going to make a major move until next year at the earliest.
Keep this in mind. The best bargains come at the trade deadline anyway. Why make a move early? You never know who is going to want to shed some salary by that point in the season. I trust the ASG and Sund!!!!!
Maybe you're right
There’s still time to make a move but I will say this
1. The Hawks still need one more big to make noise in the playoffs and we cant assume Al will be back in time
2. This is most likely best Hawks team of this era but we are still not as good as our record. Currently we have the third best record in the league – I dont think we’re that good.
3. You have more faith in ASG/Sund than I do. I agree that they will not make a major roster move. My fear though is that a trade deadline deal will include giving away our draft picks for a one year rental like last year.
