Hawks Injury Report: Al Horford (torn pectoral muscle) and Jason Collins (sprained elbow) are out.
Lakers Injury Report: none reported
Other SB Nation Coverage: SB Nation Atlanta, SB Nation Los Angeles, Silver Screen And Roll
Preview:
Tuesday night's matchup with the Lakers will once again provide a stiff test for the Hawks depleted front court. While it might not have been wise to push the pace against the Heat, Atlanta would be smart to look for a quicker tempo against the much larger Lakers. Jeff Teague is the one Hawks starter that should have a distinct advantage over anyone the Lakers place in front of him. Getting Teague off to a good start early will be a big key for tonight's game.
Los Angeles has been solid at home allowing only 85.2 points per game. Conversely Atlanta has the league's best road defense allowing just 89.3 points per game. That mark could be put to the test on Tuesday as the Hawks have lost their last five games in Los Angeles by an average of 17 points a game.

Their starting size is tough to overcome
They had a easy time even with Lion in the linup last year at Phillips. It may be time to deploy Dampier and Zaza and Smoove in starting lineup and bring Marvin off the bench for Smoove and T-Mac for JJ. Our advantage is speed at point guard position. Let Teague Loose.
Let’s Go Hawks
Smith to SF, I like. But its the lack of shooters we're pairing him with in that situation, that I dont like and I dont think Drew would do that. I think we're just gonna go same old lineup.

Atlanta will win a championship....someday
I hate these west coast late starts
Tired day at work tomorrow regardless, but the Hawks could really help out with making it a happy tired instead of grumpy tired.
Should be an interesting game – even acknowledging Kobe, our strength is something of their weakness and vice versa. A win would be a nice start to this trip.
It's gonna be up to Teague tonight, and Josh is gonna have to work against Gasol inside rather than hoist up long jumpers.
Put Gasol’s ‘soft’ label to the test.
Do not anger Ivan Johnson, or he'll have to go Kermit Washington on your ass
omg. Is that what we're counting on? Gasol is "soft" for a 7'1, 265 guy. But Smith is not a ripped muscleman himself. How is Smith gonna post him up?
I could see shorter guy or a lighter guy but… looks like we’re falling into stereotypes again.
Gasol has 2 rings and is a Hall of Fame post player. Duncan lite. We’ll see.
GO HAWKS!

Whether I agree or not
Don’t act like Gasol hasn’t been called soft before
@Kris_Willis

I'm just calling it as it is.
Gasol being called soft by us? Josh Smith just got creamed by Bosh.
I always compare us to Phoenix. We are small against LA and used to get beat up by Boston before they aged out.
I’m psycho-analyzing but I’m pretty sure that the MO for other elite teams is to attack Josh’s lack of size and physical strength.
Glen Davis: “Me and Dwight are physical guys. We bang down there. But at the same time that doesn’t matter if we don’t match their intensity. They are physical, too, like with Ivan Johnson.”
- Ivan wasn’t even on the radar a while ago.
Van Gundy on the Hawks: “They are different without Horford. They’ve moved Josh Smith back to the four spot and now they’ve got a little more 3-point shooting in the floor and they shoot it very well.”
- Smith was playing the 4 before Horford was here. He only played the 3 vs Orlando and Van Gundy seemed to want to get Smith off Hedo and in the paint where maybe he’d get switched onto Dwight.
Dont want to rock the boar but It seems that is the book on the Hawks. We are small and it is what it is.
Smith is always big on talking about physicality and Im sure Drew talks about it with us being small and all. But it is what it is. Bosh is soft for a big man too but he is still a big man.

This is where Josh needs to beat Gasol with his quickness
If he’s going to beat Gasol then Josh needs to take him out of the paint, and utilise his athleticism to blow by him.
Post play isn’t always about using strength. Adrian Dantley was a key illustration of that. Mind you, not many players in the modern game, let alone Josh have the post techniques and ability to use their leverage that he did to primarily score down low whilst being only 6’5". And Hakeem Olajuwon’s post game was centered more around quickness and technique than just sheer strength.
Do not anger Ivan Johnson, or he'll have to go Kermit Washington on your ass
Dantley is a small forward and quicker than Smith. Smith is a power player who if he cant back you down has no post game.
Dantley was more of a faceup quick guy. Smith is a basic bump and spin away for a hook shot post player.
He was facing up on Bosh but he was getting a hand in his face even with his running hook.
I don’t know if he can blow by Gasol because Gasol aint playing close to him (let him take the jumper, play him for the drive).
We’ll see i guess. GO HAWKS!

I probably shouldn't try and compare Josh and Dantley
seeing Dantley’s game was based around preparation, repetition and effort.
Do not anger Ivan Johnson, or he'll have to go Kermit Washington on your ass
I want Teague to get his minutes
But you know, this game has a lot of under-currents. If Hawks are indeed trying to get something for Kirk, then you know the Lakers, and another California team (Kings) can be prime customers for his services. I mean Lakers are pretty desperate for a point guard, as they been reported to be interested in Arenas.
So Hawks may decide to showcase Kirk, and I am good with that. Even a sub-par Kirk should be better than Fisher and whomever others players Lakers are going to throw at our point guards tonight.

You know what is cool
This kid is getting a chance to play. Their coach is not putting him on the bench in favor of veterans. I am still afraid about Teague while we all know he is lightning fast and our only hope, but our coach takes him out as like the first subs along with Marvin as though he is coach with a freaking timer. Lin played like 40 some minutes. What does that say about their coach vs. ours? Late night, I am speaking jibberish i know
Nice of the Suns to rest Nash for us.
And for my fantasy team. Dicks.

How many Layups can one team miss
Apparently all of them tonight, Josh played about as well as hes going to play against bigger players. Joe Johnson apparently cant take Pau Gasol off the dribble, and Jeff teague cant hit his floaters anymore. And Marvin Williams cant get a whistle to go his way. Gravy
And yet they still win if Willie effing Green doesnt play. The Lakers stretched the lead when Goudlock abused him. Hes making a case to being worse than Jamal Crawford on defense, and Kirk Heinrich might just be awful. I understand why Vlad played over Marvin because he was the only basketball tonight that had a jumpshot actually go through the rim (novelty concept) But man is he awful on defense.
Per Michael Cunningham via Twitter
Phantom 2-foul rule: Drew said he sat Zaza because he was told he had 2PF but refs had changed one to Joe

Probably doesnt make a difference
but it might if he plays instead of Dampier and finishes the BUNNIES that both Josh Smith and Jeff teague fed him. Embarrassingly Out of shape to be playing in the NBA right now. Yet i guess he gets credit for being in that position (grasping at all of the straws right now)
Been in a cone crusher operation course for the 2nd half
Kinda the result I was expecting to come back to. So we lost it in the 3rd again?
