Contain Bosh and we should be in the game throughout
by BravesFanScout on Feb 12, 2012 4:15 PM EST via mobile reply actions
If we can stop him Waltzing into the paint and force te big three to rely on their outside shots the Hawks can give themselves a chance
Do not anger Ivan Johnson, or he'll have to go Kermit Washington on your ass
smallball ftw
sf Josh Smith + PF Jon Leuer/PF Ryan Anderson/Kevin Love/Dirk Nowitzki > tweener Josh Smith + tweener Marvin Williams

Time for Dampier to ball out against his old team
To the tune of 4 points, 4 rebs in 10 minutes
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
i cant if it is sarcasm
But that sounds better than twin

Eh?
Very unusual for Twin to chip in either 4 points or 4 rebounds, but doing both in 10 minutes would be a huge game from him.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

Random question
If both Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose are out of the ASG, who do you reckon will get the call ups?
Personally I think it’d be Josh and Brandon Jennings

ESPN gets Hawks stats wrong... AGAIN
Wilbon just said during the pre-game show that the Heat have beaten the Hawks four straight times. Is it that hard to get it right with the Hawks?
Is that at Phillips, or just the last 4 games against Miami?
Do not anger Ivan Johnson, or he'll have to go Kermit Washington on your ass
No idea.
They didn’t specify… he just noted that Heat have won 12 of the last 15 and four straight against the Hawks.
Josh Smith falling away....

Nothing inside
this game is going to get ugly real fast
I knew we were going to need to hit some threes tonight
But I figured we would at least get a modicum of interior presence. Right now, they’re outrebounding us 13-7 and points in the paint must be like 20-4
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
Joe Johnson Get the damn rebound
WTF, Josh cant get the damn rebound after blocking his shot
I'm about at the point
When I turn off the TV for a couple of days and never speak of this game
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
Zaza has got to get some looks when he's got someone pinned
and he gets open and nobody even looks toward the basket
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
Sit Joe Johnson
Put TMac at the two guard and just roll with it, because Joe apparently cant take anybody off the dribble anymore.
but when Joe gets the ball
Hes somehow getting pushed back by Mike Miller. At least with TMac he was getting open looks, Joe isnt getting ANYTHING so far
they're giving the hawks jumpers
they are crowding the lane and I’m surprised their aren’t more defensive three sec calls. Not to mention we haven’t played zone all game. I guess playing zone without Al Horford would be suicide to back door cuts
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
matter of fact
we get a long rebound and slow it down. If Horford was playing he’d be bringing up the ball and pushing the pace….why can’t Teague do that
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
There's no reason to get outrebounded 31-13 to a team with crappy centers
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
Bosh with 10, Lebron with 9, Josh if you wanna be an All-Star then box out
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
Josh has 4 rebounds
Hes not the only basketball player on this team that needs to start grabbing some rebounds, Joe Johnson has zero.
Atleast Josh Has been an impact changing shots, but nobody is their to clean up the misses besides Zaza with 5
Zaza only has 2 defensive rebounds
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
Yea this is a team wide issue
Josh only has 2 defensive as well, but atleast they both have more than 2 total rebounds. Just getting dominated out there
JJ with a big bupkis
Ivan with none, Willie with none, Kirk with none, T-Mac with one, Teague with one, Marvin with two
Let’s just call rebounding a “team-wide” issue
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
Oh I agree its team-wide
But the fact that Bosh and Lebron have the bulk of the boards (5 and 3 respectively on offense) means its his (and Ivans, Zaza’s, Marvin’s, TMacs) faults
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
And JJ as well
Wade has 4 rebounds, JJ has zero. And JJ has been guarding LeBron at times, as well
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
JJ had a chance to grab a rebound after Josh Blocked Lebron's layup
and just stood there while Lebron reentered play to grab the board
I have no idea how LeBron could possibly have gotten his own rebound there
After FALLING OUT OF BOUNDS!
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
I've wanted Joe to go away after that happened
inexcusable. Everybody is ball watching while Josh Is challenging everybodies shot at the rim. opening themselves up to putbacks. The Guards HAVE TO START REBOUNDING
Josh needs to do a better job too
It’s not like he’s a block machine tonight.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.
by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
Im with you
This has just been a failure by everybody tonight.
thats not how it works
Nice try blaming all of Atlanta’s problems on one player tho.
Are you even reading? I never said that
Josh claims he deserves to be an All-Star, I don’t see it on the court jacking up jumpers and not hustling for rebounds
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
So you want Josh to box out Lebron and Bosh
After blocking the shot and then go get the rebound himself? This is ridiculous. Some people find any reason to blame him regardless of what’s actually happening in the game. How about Marvin, Joe, Zaza, T Mac and Ivan take some responsibility? Everyone on the floor is accountable for 31 rebounds. Not one guy, especially when he has to fly out to block shots
by Sky Hawk on Feb 12, 2012 8:19 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

Yes. Significantly.
Last Miami game we could have won had we fouled bosh at the end.
look everybody
rebound deficits almost always correlate to missed shots (ie shooting percentage) If our guys are shooting jumpers and nobody’s down there to rebound it’s going to look like this every single time
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
They have more offensive rebounds than we do
And are shooting better. Your explanation isn’t holding up.
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

by Bronn on Sep 18, 2011 4:26 PM EDT
their percentage of off rebounds isn't what im talking about
almost all of their rebounds come from our misses
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
The effort is better, the shooting is worse
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
Willie Green and Kirk Heinrich
Yea its time to do some homework
whats a zone going to do for the offense?
and the Heat would carve that zone up without Al Horford to go along with Josh Smith and Marvin Williams. Zaza lacks the athleticism necessary
I agree, it wouldn't matter
We can’t penetrate, rebound, or just function tonight
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...
yeah a zone's not going to work
not like it didn’t last games against them but oh well. Let’s go man with our weak pick and roll defense all night til they’re up 30 and bring in the zone to show we can do it.
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
Jeff Teague cannot guard the pick and roll
and im starting to worry if he ever will. Hes just gets walled off by the screener and never recovers fast enough. He might be too weak to fight through it consistently
Also this is kinda what happens
When a jumpshooting team cant hit its jumpshots
Wow. This is embarassing.
Always happens on national television.
3-11 shooting in the 3rd isn't gonna cut it
Stop me if you've heard this before. An Atlanta team chokes in the postseason...

Just have a tough time getting good looks
Especially without Al Horford against good teams. Might not make it out of the first round without him
now we play zone
this game is over. The organist is playing sucky music
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
this is sucky bad
no zone til we’re down 25, josh leading the break (fail), nobody’s rebounding, starter’s not making any impact, Miami gets all the calls….next game we learn…..to be continued
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
dont we play la

smallball ftw. Atlanta Munchkins Getting dominated on the boards by Wade Lebron and Bosh and
Bosh too athletic for Zaza and too big for a 225 SF in Josh and softazz Marvin.
Mike Miller and Lebron taking breaks guarding Marvin. Marvin is a complete nonfactor inside the paint.
Where were the easy shots supposed to come from. At some point we have to trade for a Ryan Anderson/Leuer/Kevin Love type. stick Josh on Lebron and the stretch PF on Bosh and put in Zaza to keep them off the boards.

That's the silver lining
Ivan Johnson once strangled a man with a cordless phone

whats that going to do?
i mean this is atlanta. isn’t everyone’s expectations down by default?

I meant within the Atlanta fan base
Gotta keep them buried in the ground
Is it gona take Ivan's hustle to get us back into this one?
Do not anger Ivan Johnson, or he'll have to go Kermit Washington on your ass
As if Vlad's in at the 4/5 matching up against pf/c alongside him. Net effect = 0.

The problem with this game
Is i honestly think they were fighting and hustling out there, but their shots werent dropping and they were just out-talented tonight.
Willie Green top scorer
Good work starting 5.

If Eddy Curry scores I might have to stop supporting the Hawks

Horrible matchups. on to the next.

All you need to know about the offense
@HawksPRGuy
“The things we did well in the previous games against them, we did poorly tonight,” said #Hawks coach Drew. “Too many jump shots…”
Settled for jumpers, which led to long rebounds, which led to easy points for the Heat in transition, and then the snow ball effect happened and that was all she wrote for the Hawks this game
wow
real insight from PR. I’m sure that was well thought out

Lol im just going off the quote about jumpshots
you barking up the wrong tree looking for something insightful or some philosophical or psychological reason for why they were blown out. I just stick to the basics. And the basics are the Heat are the better basketball team, and tonight forced atlanta to settle for some Jumpshots that led to transition points.
nothing like
“well when we last played them we played zone most of the night because they can’t handle that too much, so I decided to man up to take it easy on them in front of millions of people who know Miami hates the zone.”

Zone was going to help the offense?
as i put that on repeat forever.
yes i would have
defense leads to offense…..yes a thousand times yes

hard to rebound out of a zone.

reporters don't seem to ask tough questions
only general questions and snowball questions

The refs looked terrible at the game
Did Bob, Holman, or Tirico (lol) say anything about it?
I touched the garment of Ivan Johnson and I saw the Rapture

People don't generally talk about the officiating when a team wins by 25 points
Braves will be fine. I'm not worried.

Final Thought
Two ways to look at this game…
1) POSSUM THEORY IS IN FULL EFFECT BABY!!!
2)The Hawks never need to play on national TV again this season (unless their playing a sorry team on the road). Phillips Arena does not need a national TV audience to see 75% of the fans root for the other team and for the home team to give them a legitimate reason to do so.
This is still 1 game out of 66 though, the goal for the regular season is to make the playoffs. in that state of mind, this loss doesn’t matter at all.

Why didn't we play a zone tonight?
Seems weird since that was the secret to our success against them in Miami. Make D-Wade and Lebron make jumpshots. As they proved tonight they can score on anyone when you play them man to man.

I'm sure they had a good reason not too
I mean they get paid to know basketball more than us so just because it worked the last two times, doesn’t mean it’ll work again.
//end sarcasm

it was a mismatch really
They were playing zone and beating our man to man. Was Horford not playing really the difference?
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
On defense Yes
its really difficult to play match up zone when you have a weakness, and Zaza doesnt have the lateral quickness to play that type of defense against the Heat.
But thats a small issue compared to not getting into the painted area and instead settling for the shots the Heat were allowing the Hawks to take
he didn't have to move much
it’s not like they were draining threes all night
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
11 threes and we still lost by 20
ok, enough trolling in the game threads…im gone
