Hawks Final Score: Golden State 92, Atlanta 88

Ezra Shaw

The Hawks made another fourth quarter comeback attempt despite being without the services of Al Horford or Devin Harris, but fell short on the road to the Warriors who dominated the glass and the paint.

The Hawks came out of the gate strong and jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the Warriors rebounding quickly began to be a problem for Atlanta. The Warriors out-rebounded the Hawks 44-29 (10-5 Offensive) including a game-high 13 from Harrison Barnes. The rookie also had a game-high 19 points along with those 13 boards in his best game as a pro.

The Warriors took advantage of the Hawks lack of size down-low, as the Hawks were missing Al Horford (illness) and his replacement Zaza Pachulia had to leave the game for a stretch in the first half to get five stitches above his right eye. David Lee was the second leading Warrior, behind Barnes, with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Lee had seven of his 10 boards in the first half, and had six offensive rebounds.

Ivan Johnson and Kyle Korver were the two bright spots for the Hawks on the night. Korver had all 14 of his points in the first half when he went 5-for-5 from the field (he missed his lone shot attempt in the 2nd half). Ivan Johnson had a season-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, as well as pulling down four boards (he also had 5 fouls putting him just 1 board away from the Ivan Johnson Triple Double of 10/5/5).

Outside of the efforts provided by Korver and Johnson, the Hawks shot extremely poorly shooting just 34.4% from the field (with Kyle and Ivan they shot 43.6%). Josh Smith had yet another rough night from the field going 6-of-16, but did capitalize on all four of his free throw attempts.

Lou Williams came on late, hitting three late threes to keep the Hawks in the game, but he too struggled going just 5-of-14 (3-of-8 from deep) on the night. The Hawks will have to bounce back Friday against the Kings, as they look to finish 2-2 on this west coast swing and get their overall record back to 4-4.
