Peachtree Hoops continues its in depth preview of the Hawks' 2012-13 roster by looking at Louis Williams. He was 2nd last year in voting for sixth man of the year while leading the Sixers in scoring. Can he duplicate that success with the Hawks?
Louis Tyrone Williams
Nickname: Sweet Lou
Born: 10/27/1986 in Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis is best known for the blues, BBQ, and Elvis Presley, but he was actually born in nearby Tupelo, Mississippi. It's a metropolitan area of around 1.3 million people and home to the 2nd busiest cargo airport in the world behind Hong Kong. The reason for so much traffic is that Memphis is the headquarters and hub of Federal Express. A popular Memphis tourist destination/local business is the Peabody Hotel which is home to the Peabody Ducks known for their daily march through the lobby. Although no longer used for sporting events or concerts, another local landmark is the venue known as The Pyramid which is actually the 6th tallest pyramid in the world. The building is currently being converted into the world's largest Bass Pro Shop Store. A lot of famous musicians are from Memphis like Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Rich, Sam & Dave, and Justin Timberlake. The most famous athlete from Memphis has to be wrestling legend Jerry the King Lawler. On a personal note, after many painful tests as a young child I was told that I am allergic to Memphis, specifically the air. I've not held a grudge though.
Louis Williams was the 2005 Naismith Prep player of the year playing for Snellville's South Gwinnett High School. As a Comet, he was a two-time Georgia Mr. Basketball. Concerns about position and poor workouts dropped him to the 2nd round of the draft. Another famous Comet is Clay Cook who plays guitar in the Zac Brown Band.
Personal Notes: Louis Williams is a close friend of Bow Wow and has been seen hanging out with him on episodes of MTV Cribs. Louis has a brother named Taurus, and a sister Frashaundra. Lou once was being held up at gunpoint when the gunman recognized him and revealed he was a fan. The story goes that instead of robbing him, the gunman and he reached an understanding with Lou buying him McDonald's. Lou has recorded several rap tracks, including being featured on Meek Mill's I Want It All.

Horoscope: As a Scorpio I found this free sports horoscope for the year: Your professional life is announced rich moving relational, profitable collaborations, fertile agreements for your future. Occasions of changes will have to arrive more close to your ambitions. You will be confronted with circumstances which bring new knowledge to you, and which thereafter, will open doors to you on the professional level. To envisage joint projects or which approach and are supplemented between you and these people.
Chinese Zodiac: Born in the year of the tiger. People born in this year are tolerant, staunch, valiant, and respected. They like challenges and speed and they are active and good at expressing themselves. Tiger people have strong sense of errantry, be frank and easy to win others' trust. Their shortcoming is to project themselves before others. They are given to deep thinking and capable of great sympathy, however, they can be short-tempered without interest with long-term endeavor.
They should watch out for a contest in 2012, the Year of the Dragon. In terms of the Five Elements (Wuxing) Theory, wood (tiger) breaks earth (dragon). The fight between tiger and dragon may bring uncertainty to tiger’s fortune in the year of dragon.
|Louis Williams||Per Game||Per 36M||rank/478|

Quick Analysis: The numbers show an excellent scorer, not a great shooter. Offsetting the shooting percentage is his tendency to get to the line, which makes him more efficient as evident by his PER being above 20. What really stands out to me are the great numbers for handling the ball. For someone with such high usage he has a very low turnover percentage. His lack of size can hamper him defensively which is why he fits better as a super sixth man rather than in the starting lineup. The rankings are out of 478 players listed on basket-reference.com for last season with no qualifying minimums to provide some context for the numbers.
Hopefully, you feel you know a little more about Louis Williams than before. Let me know what you think in your comments. The big question for me is whether Louis Williams can be as effective as the Hawks sixth man as he was in Philadelphia?
