NBA D-League Showcase Begins Monday In Reno

The NBA D-League showcase tips off on Monday beginning a stretch of 16 games over four days that brings all of the top D-League talent to one place which will be heavily attended by NBA front office personnel. This season's showcase will be hosted by the Atlanta Hawks' D-League affiliate the Reno Bighorns and will be played at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada. NBA TV will air eight games of the showcase live and will broadcast 12 games total beginning Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. All of the game are available to be watched online with NBA Futurecast.

The Reno Bighorns enter the showcase with an 8-9 record and are facing a difficult schedule. The Bighorns will take on Rio Grande Valley Monday night and will continue play on Wednesday against the Iowa Energy. Reno does feature a player that is likely to draw a lot of interest at the showcase in 6-foot-3 guard Blake Ahearn who is averaging 25.4 points and 6.1 assists per game this season.

It’s funny how the D-League calls this a showcase considering it is done at a time where no one can watch it. It’s being done on a Monday morning where most people are at either work or school.

Yeah, but . . .

Isn’t the point of those games to is to also showcase the D-League to fans too.. Usually showcases like this are used to generate interest and increase fan base. It would make more sense for the D-League to showcase in the evening where more people could watch the games. It’s just common sense to me.

with four games a day it similar to the conference tournaments. Not ideal for sure.
