Trade Idea with Jazz
Hey, Jazz fan here. Just wanted to pitch a trade idea here, see what all you think (sorry, not much else to talk about during lockout)
Utah sends: Al Jefferson
Atlanta sends: Zaza Pachulia, 1st round pick (protected top ten)
Straight across this wouldn't work, salary wise. Atlanta would have to either put in Kirk Hinrich or Marvin Williams. Now, I don't think Atlanta has any interest in including Hinrich, and the Jazz have no interest or need to overpay M. Williams (though, personally, wouldn't mind taking on Williams if it included a second future 1st rounder)
I think this trade works for both clubs fairly well. For Atlanta, it allows Horford to slide down to his more natural position of Power Forward (Jefferson prefers Center, and has played the 5 for most his career). Al H in the high post with Al J on the low block would give the Hawks a few more options on offense.
For Utah this clears up a serious logjam. They recently acquired Derrick Favors through trade and drafted Enes Kanter. Mehmet Okur is likely to return to action next year, and while he'll never return to his pre injury form he still has some juice in him. Add in a solid Millsap and a promising sophomore in Jeremy Evans...the Jazz just don't need Al Jefferson so much. Pachulia, who doesn't play as many minutes as Jefferson, would be a good stopgap to allow the Jazz to ease Kanter into the NBA, and being a rebuilding franchise, an extra pick never hurts.

Holy Smokes
I love Zaza, I will love Zaza’s children, and I will love Zaza’s children’s children, but I’d make that trade…………..Marvin for the rights of Jerry Sloan ( when he inevitably returns)

I think it helps Atlanta a ton offensively but I am not sure Jefferson is anymore a center than Horford
Besides what would be the financial ramifications?
@Kris_Willis
And why would the hawks give away another first round pick?
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
it's what we do
In 1957, the team advanced to the Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics in a double-overtime thriller in game seven. In 1958, the Hawks again advanced to the NBA Finals where they avenged their previous year's defeat against the Boston Celtics, winning the series 4-2. Bob Pettit scored 50 points in Game 6 in front of a crowd of 10,218 in St. Louis. The victory gave the Hawks their first and only NBA Championship.

The Jefferson is a LOT better than
Zaza and either Hinrich or Marvin. If it was even possible, I’d think you’d have Al as the wide body handling bigger players on the low block. Al hustling, defending 4s and working the high post. Josh slims down to a hustle 3, Joe and Teague in the backcourt, with a bench of Hinrich, and whatever else we can sign?

sigh...
One man does not make a bench.

Color Me Bad
Why would trade for a guy that makes you worse defensively. In all honesty, this guy is worse than Jamal Crawford on defense. He already would become a liability on defense in a defensive scheme that is all about accountability. It speaks volumes when Jerry Sloan cannot teach the guy, and to those of you who say he has not had a good supporting cast you can’t get better than Deron Williams, Paul Millsap, and Andrei Kirilenko.
He is atrocious, abysmal, horrifying on defense. Jefferson can block shots in one-on-one scenario and does it pretty well (153), but he’s extremely slow-moving on defense, and doesn’t expend much energy on that end. He’s horrible on rotations and defensive reaction. Lead-footed, doesn’t rotate correctly , looks only for the big shot block , doesn’t exactly sprint back on transition defense, and often gets walloped by anybody on the post with some quickness (yeah, you know, guys like Joakim Noah)
I cannot express how much this would make our defense worse. He made a team ranked in 11th in defensive efficiency the year before into a team ranked 24th the next. He had the worst defensive differential per 100 possessions than any player in the league. Utah gave up 6.8 more points per 100 possessions when Jefferson was on the court than when he was off. 113.3 when he was ON, 106.5 when he was off.
One Guy.

Good point. And the defensive efficiency in 09-10 was with Boozer in the line-up too.
Will making it back to the Eastern Conference Semis give Larry Drew another year at the helm?
