NBA Free Agency 2011: Jason Collins To Re-Sign With The Atlanta Hawks, According To A Report

ATLANTA, GA - APRIL 22: Dwight Howard #12 of the Orlando Magic drives into the basket against Jason Collins #34 of the Atlanta Hawks during Game Three of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in the 2011 NBA Playoffs at Philips Arena on April 22, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. Star-divide

According to a report by Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Atlanta Hawks and center Jason Collins have agreed to a 1-year contract.

Free agent forward Jason Collins will return to the Atlanta Hawks with a one-year deal, a league source tells Yahoo! Sports.

I figured that this would be the first announced signing by the Atlanta Hawks once teams can actually begin making transactions on Friday. Collins played in 49 games last season and made 28 starts when Larry Drew shifted to a big lineup featuring Al Horford at the power forward position and Josh Smith at the small forward. It was a staple of the Hawks defensively in the first round upset over the Magic.

So what are we looking at now?

Teague/Hinrich/Watson
Joe/Sy
Marvin/McGrady
Josh/Zaza
Al/Twin

Add Rolle, Damien Wilkins, and another C (Benson?) and you’re done.

No nothing on Watson is official

Just that he was leaning this direction. If Utah gives him a multi year deal then he is going there

Hoops Hype

Is quoting Damien as saying he is not coming back

I could be wrong

but I think it was something along the lines that he hadn’t heard from the Hawks yet. I bookmarked the tweets for a future post

Easily the smartest person on the team. I trust him with a clip board more than Larry drew

Nice

deserves a spot on the team after his play in the playoffs. Nice job w/ the one-year contract, too. I’d like to see him keep around 12 mp/g.

About as surprising as this morning's sunrise.

My buddy and I just decided that the braves would be set if we could get Matt Kemp, Jose Reyes, and Albert Pujols.

happy meal reunion

Need to bring back Randolph Morris too!

Lion is happy now with this signing

But we still need another center type player. My every attempt to get Asok seems to be facing friction from within and without

I am all for acquiring Asik

I just don’t think Chicago will ultimately part with a cheap and serviceable big like him

The Hawks making smart decisions this offseason

IMO acquiring ronnie brewer would be nice but kind of unnecessary if you feel that Pape Sy can be an effective NBA player (I do, others probably disagree.)

Guess I'm the only guy thinking

snore to Jason Collins being on this team…
