John Hollinger Trade Scenario
Hawks Receive: Chris Paul, Trevor Ariza, Jarrett Jack, and Emeka Okafor
Hornets Receive: Al Horford, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Kirk Hinrich, and Jeff Teague
Per John Hollinger Insider Post:
Paul wanted to come to Atlanta in the infamous 2005 draft that saw the Hawks instead select Marvin Williams, and our Chris Broussard just reported that Atlanta is still on the list.
So allow me to speak for all Atlantans for a second:
HE'D CONSIDER US!!! HE SAID HE'D CONSIDER US!!!!
Now that we have that out of the way ... it's highly unlikely CP is coming to Atlanta, given that the team is arguably on even shakier financial footing than the Hornets and the Hawks would likely have to trade their best young assets to get him. The best-case scenario for the Hawks is for the deal to cost them only one of Horford and Smith and not both, but it seems like that bid would easily be trumped by some of the others above.
You'll excuse the locals for getting all geeked up about this though, as it's the first time a superstar mentioned wanting to play here since Mt. Mutombo arrived nearly two decades ago.

Shakier financial footing than the team owned by the league?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Atlanta Spirit Group.
Interesting. But that's ALOT...
I don’t see that trade improving us enough to get to the Conference Finals. New Orleans would have a better chance of winning a championship this season sticking with him. I also don’t see Al Horford in a trade for him. It come to the point where New Orleans is seeing which team will give them the most prospects for him

We'd still have a front court issue
almost an entire starting five trade
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
That's crazy
I’d have a tough time getting behind that because it’s a completely different team. We’re trading pretty much everyone except JJ.
Honestly, any deal involving both Josh AND Horford is going to be a no-sell for me.
My buddy and I just decided that the braves would be set if we could get Matt Kemp, Jose Reyes, and Albert Pujols.

I saw this the day it was posted
I didn’t put it up on the site for discussion because I thought the offer was ridiculous and not even close to a realistic offer. I do think that one thing New Orleans may do with any trade of CP3 is make a team take Okafor to get rid of his contract. When they trade Paul they are completely starting over and wouldn’t need Okafor.
Curiously I wouldn’t mind adding Okafor to the Hawks as a center.
@Kris_Willis
Yeah, the trade is definitely ridiculous.
I like to post some of the ESPN insider stuff about the Hawks because it blows not being able to read it if you aren’t an insider.
Yeah, Okafor would be a nice addition at the Center position. Maybe the Hawks will just trade Josh to the Wiz for Jordan Crawford and a first rounder and make a serious run at one of the rFA or FA centers

jilted lovers. It was bad enough trying to sell Horford as an alternativ to David West or Amare but now this is just Chris Paul + Joe Johnson + Trevor Ariza.
Chris Paul won’t sign an extension in New Orleans for silly scenarios like this
Hawks trade {Al Horford} for {PF Jon Leuer and C Andrew Bogut}
* Andrew Bogut * Jon Leuer * Josh Smith * Joe Johnson * Jeff Teague *
* Zaza Pachulia * Keith Benson * Malcolm Thomas * Marvin Williams * Kirk Hinrich *
inj. reserve: Pape Sy, Jason Collins
Why isn't this being taken more seriously?
I really feel like adding a true superstar would instantly increase the amount of attention the Hawks will receive, plus it gets rid of Marvin and will get future free agents to Atlanta since they’ll want to plkay with the best PG in the league. We all pretty much agree that we are not going to get over the hump as constructed right now. I love Josh and Al but Chris Paul is very talented.
Of course, this is all assuming that Paul would sign an extension with Atlanta.
Switch Horford for JJ and I'm in
Paul would be a huge upgrade over JJ, it would allow Big Al to play his natural PF with the addition of Okafor. Get some good defense from Ariza. I would love to watch this team.
