Trade I Would Do
Trade Joe and Marvin To Houston for Kevin Martin and Hasheem Thabeet
Joe's Contract is gunna run till hes 35 years old...therefore...he will be past his prime for sure....Kevin Martin is a better scorer then Joe on most nights but Joe is a better defender....however....Kevins Contract is over as of 2013 and hes also 2 years younger and is a lot less in terms of $...and you would save $ with Joes awful contract but recieve a player of his caliber....Marvin can be traded and maybe a draft pick for Thabeet or Scola.....most likely thabeet....even though he probably wouldnt figure into the Hawks lineup since he hasnt figured into any lineup for any team hes been on so far. Clearly Marvin is too inconsistent and although hes a decent player hes just not playing to his draft stock. If that trade happened youd also be able to bring in another big free agent if you dump even a half of joes contract.

let me get this Peachtree logic straight....
Thabeet > Marvin > Jon Leuer
Hawks will do any warped logic to hold onto Citizen Al. The trade in my signature is the best offer Ive seen that another team might consider.
Hawks trade {Al Horford} for {PF Jon Leuer and C Andrew Bogut}
* Andrew Bogut * Jon Leuer * Josh Smith * Joe Johnson * Jeff Teague *
* Zaza Pachulia * Keith Benson * Malcolm Thomas * Marvin Williams * Kirk Hinrich *
inj. reserve: Pape Sy, Jason Collins
Why not?

I mean its more logical to go 2 upgrades for 1 from the Hawks perspective. Bucks get worse on defense but can play faster with Jennings and Sanders and Harris.

Fixing 2 starting spots for 1 starter who averages 12ppg for his playoff career and takes the worst shot in basketball is better than
is rather than Rick Sund’s current stance on trades… Superstar or Bust

WOW
First Leuer is on the Bucks not “any team”. They have a bulked up 2nd year Larry Sanders whom they have to decide whether he’s any good, and a disgruntled Ilyasova. At power forward. All are owed more money than Leuer and you don’t want to pay them to sit on the bench.
So you’re saying 1,000,000 times that Leuer can’t play for the Hawks. Not because he doesn’t bring way more mismatches to our offense and size on defense. Not because he’s a BIG step in the right direction.
Not because he’s not an Atlanta Hawks upgrade starter material but because he’s of the unrelated Milwaukee Bucks roster construction?
Complete non-sequitir. Keeping up with the Jones and Atlanta Housewives thinking I guess.
So whats the big improvement to the perimeter this offseason.
Al Horford have a 3 pointer and a pull up jump shot? Jason Collins? Marvin Williams? Oops Marvin is 6’8 and cant defend power forwards or centers.
But he starts for a team.
So Keith Benson was the big offseason answer. Josh Smith’s still the best perimeter forward and the 3rd option. He is going to have to create because others cant.
Then he gets blamed. For not one, not two, not three, but FOUR seasons in a row. No improvements.
Thats the Chemistry issue. Josh Smith still sucks on the perimeter but he is still the 3rd best (after Teague and Joe) yet he gets blamed for it. who is lackluster on offense and yet he gets to take SMiths spot on defense? What is the alternative.
Thats why Josh Smith is unhappy. l2ms Keith Benson

There you have it folks, the real reason that Josh Smith is unhappy
Keith Benson
Damn I knew we should have sold that second round pick.
SMH
@Kris_Willis
Keith Benson is the only offseason move the Hawks have made.
If Horford, Josh (needs a shooter), or Joe get traded and asked what went wrong… You dont think Front Office complacency comes up.
Horford still cant shoot off the dribble. Joe still does not deserve $20 mil per year.
Keith Benson is the only significant move thus far. Last year it was Jason Collins.

Houston would do it in a heartbeat...
And the Hawks shouldn’t do it.
It has been a common myth that if you shed salary and contracts, then Superstars are going to come. First, Thabeet is a BUST. Second, Marvin is a legit starter. Is he the most expendable starter for the Hawks, yes. Is he worse than Thabeet, no.
Lastly, I want someone on this blog to name me any other time in the history of the NBA where a team traded away their best player for an inferior player and gotten better. The Hawks need to put pieces around Joe, not trade him.
salaries don't match off the bat
their would have to be more to it
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
I think Houston has enough cap room to eat the extra salary though
because I originally thought the same thing.
