New 13th Man Rumor: HoopsHype Etan Thomas Close to Signing With the Hawks
Here is a name that hasn't been reported yet. HoopsHype.com is reporting that Etan Thomas is close to signing a one year deal with the Hawks. He averaged 3.3ppg and 2.8reb in very limited minutes with Oklahoma City last season.

We spend too much time thinking about the 13th player on the roster because there’s so little else to talk about the Hawks until they start playing pre-season games. Last year the 13th player was either Othello Hunter or Randolph Morris. IOW, a non-factor except as a body to put in during blow outs to give a rotation player rest. It’ll be the same this year.
Because our competitors are deep with talent...
and players 10, 11, and 12, are more like 13s to begin with.
To me
filling the roster with guys who add little to the team is very very short sighted to say the least. Any of our guys get hurt and we have to make do with minimum salary guys. I’m not sure if the ASG wants to win a championship or sale the team but either way there’s nothing definite on anything except our guys want to get paid bottom line and lets see who they choose to keep. (run-on i know)
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
I would've been more accepting of this signing than Jason Collins.
To me Collins is so one dimensional you can almost predict what your going to get night in and night out. Etan Is more well known with his hustle and defensive intensity so I would be more comfortable with this signing but really, we have 3 BIGS ALREADY!?! Talk about a crowded front court…

Wow
I am totally underwhelmed. While everyone else in the East are making moves forward, we’re taking steps backwards, Remind me. Didn’t we make the playoffs last year?
Bet it hit the rim!
With the roster moves by ASG, what are the real possibilites of resigning Al next year?
Bet it hit the rim!
I still think they are very good.
I believe they will do what they did with Josh Smith which is tell Horford to go find the best deal and they will match. Where the problem might come in is depending on how big a contract Horford gets, the Hawks might be more inclined to trade Josh Smith to then cut salary. Just pure speculation on my part but I think there is zero chance that they let Horford get away.

I may have to rethink my stance on this
If Bradley is right, the Hawks might not go the route they did with Josh Smith in restricted Free Agency with Al Horford.

If Teague and Jordan Crawford are ready and capable of playing...
25+ and 15+ minutes a night respectively, then deal him. He’s great for G depth, but makes no sense to be resigned. If the kids in the backcourt prove capable, then I’d deal him for the best young frontcourt piece I could find be it a SF or C.
