meh

I voted No because I don’t think he will come for the MLE and I don’t see the front court as a bigger issue that the PG/SF issues we have. However, I have little to no faith in the ASG to be able to do anything significant about those issues, so whatever. Maybe they will sell more tickets for the first few weeks, but the allure will fade quick when we still end up losing to the likes of the Knicks, etc.

Maybe Drew will keep that last part from happening though

Either way, I’ve become somewhat numb of it all. Maybe I’m just ready to get the season started.

Childress is okay....but not that good

I’m sure the Hawks can get somebody for him….he’s not a #1 or #2 option…he doesn’t score easily…good defender, can rebound, handle the ball…that’s about it, unless he found a consistent shot he aint coming back and burnin’ the Hawks.
This team has not done anything yet to get better…so expect some deals to be made….I think they are looking to see what offers they get for the expendable parts…..Josh, Josh, Marvin, Bibby. The Knicks need a pick & roll PG for Amare, see what they would give up for Bibby

w/r/t Arn Tellum

Maybe he thinks that LeBron was willing to sign for the MLE? “Hey, LeBron, come on down to the ATL and be the 4th highest paid player on the roster! You’ll be making more than Zaza (slightly)!”

Actually

The Hawks have the pieces to do a S&T with the Cavs. Not to mention if it meant gettin Lebron James, ASG would be more than willing to become a tax team.

Boozer is better than Smoove?????

You must be blind… Josh is younger, a better defender, a better passer, can run the floor better, and less of a injury liability than boozer. All boozer has is a couple nifty post up moves and an o.k. jumper plus Josh hasn’t reached his potential yet i wanna see what larry drew can get out of him

The man who might really benefit from a new coach is Marvin Williams. I really want to see what we can get from him next season. It’s harder for me to say, at this point, that Josh Smith isn’t exactly what he is.

Josh Smith has the most upside?

It is a dangerous thing to say around these parts because there appears to be a common consensus that out of every draftee on the team the oldest and most seasoned pro still has the most potential. Eventually we have to come to terms with the fact that he has reached or is quite near his potential and he lacks the tools to put it all together. A coach would really help, but this is what I was trying to get at earlier in another post. Eventually it is going to go from talking about his potential to saying how if he could only put it all together he would be near unstoppable and that conversation will last until he is retired. (i.e. Rasheed Wallace)

He was drafted a year after Mo Evans and I don’t hear anyone in this space talking about Mo just tapping out of his potential (yes i know he is younger)

You know who else is younger Al horford and Marvin Williams and both of those two YOUNG MEN have made great strides in improving a part of their game in the offseason.
(a step back from Marvin this past year, which I can contribute to the Woody system and his ability to loose faith in some players, which for some reason completely destroys there psyche and his ability to show favoritism)

Josh Smith has the same issues he had FOUR years ago he has trouble focusing, he can’t dribble, he can’t shoot, and he has no idea what he can and cannot do.

I am pretty sure in his mind he thinks he is Lebron James and I am pretty sure he has convinced a lot of you he could be a Lebron James, but he can’t he won’t.

I am looking forward to the strides he makes under Larry Drew and i pray he improves more than I think he is capable of doing.

Fair point

But Josh does still posses a lot of potential.

- Many of his issues could be fixed purely through better coaching, decision making, and attitude
- His passing has steadily improved
- His on-ball defense has gotten much better
- His shooting percentage has steadily risen throughout his career
- He’s developed competent post moves in a half court set
- Last season there were several stretches of 10 rebound averages, and seems to have the ability to pull 10 per for a season
-He’s still growing physically

yeah but how long do you wait

I was one of his biggest supporters a few years ago. He developed a post game sort of, looked like he was getting a short range jump shot….then that was it. He started shooting 3’s, he would get silly charging calls because he wasn’t as good a ball handler as he thought, he stopped rebounding….and that started 2 seasons ago. I really thought he was “our” Lebron- athletic, combo foward, who could score from anywhere in the paint….nope..he is a dunker, has a lefty jump hook, and defends the basket….he needs to be a better passer and get a short range jumper (Amare) and not take 3’s …ever…even when they go in its demoralizing because you know he’s gonna take another 3-4

How long we wait?

Shaq had 5 year $100 Million Deal We are near Luxury tax territory.

Around $66.30 million for 9 players under contract including Joe Johnson.
We can possibly Resign Own Players or something like that. The Contract with Joe Johnson was expensive, so I don’t see Hawks spending much more money. It Was mentioned Ekfor and Chris Paul.,had 10 more million Contract than Josh Smith. I feel Smith is better player. we Dont have to beat Miami in Spending. $65 Million for 5 players Before Trade of Beasley.

shaq is the key

I FEEL THAT OBTAINING SHAQ AND WILL BYNUM FROM DETROIT WILL WORK WONDERS FOR THE HAWKS. THEY CAN MOVE MARVIN WILLIAMS & MIKE BIBBY TO ANOTHER TEAM AND DROP RANDOLPH MORRIS AND JASON COLLINS. THEY HAVE ANOTHER GUARD COMING IN TO BACKUP JOE OR JAMALL, THEY CAN ACQUIRE HASLEM TO BACK UP HORFORD, THEY ALSO HAVE TO LET GO MARIO. THEN ACQUIRE MCGLOIRE TO BACK UP JOSH SMITH. ZAZA WILL BACKUP SHAQ. PHILOSPHY SAY’S THAT WITH JOE GETTING 123 MILLION, HE IS GOING TO SHOOT ALOT AS BEFORE. SHAQ WILL GET MOST OF THE MISS’ES AND CLOG OU THE MIDDLE ON DEFENSE, JOSH CAN THEN BECOME A ROAMER ON DEFENSE AND BLOCK LOTS OF SHOTS, BECAUSE OF SHAQ’S PRESENCE, AL CAN HELP ON THE BOARDS AND BECOME THE CLEANUP MAN AND SCORE THE SECOND HAND GARBAGE BASKETS THAT STILL COUNT IN A VICTORY, TEAGUE WILL BE THE POINT,AND THATS WHY HE NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO PENETRATE AND SCORE OR DISS TO THE BIG MEN, JAMALL IS STILL INSTANT HEAT OFF THE BENCH. THE OTHER 2 BIG MEN ARE ROLE PLAYERS THAT CAN BANG ON THE INSIDE (THATS WHAT KILLED THE HAWKS LAST SEASON) . IF TEAGUE CANNOT RUN THE POINT, BENCH HIM AND START WILL BYNUM, HE IS FAST AND HAS A BIG HEART. HE IS NOT SCARED OF THE INSIDE LIKE TEAGUE IS. I GUARANTEE YOU THAT IF COACH DREW FOLLOWS MY LEAD HERE, THE HAWKS WILL BE PLAYING IN THE CONFERENCE FINAL OR EVEN GOING TO THE FINAL AND AS LONG AS THE COACH DO NOT HAVE A DUMB,SILLY,STUPID SPELL AT NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE GAME AND REALLY PAYS ATTENTION AND KNOWS HIS PLAYERS AND KNOWS HOW TO COACH. NOW TAKE THAT TO LEBRON. I’LL SEE HOW STUPID HAWKS MANAGEMENT REALLY IS WITHIN THE COMING WEEKS.
