SIGN AND TRADE

Hawks fans are almost certain that Jamal Crawford would b the hawks starting sg next season. You just can't let a player like Joe Johnson walk out the door with nothing in return. How about a sign and trade with the nets sending harris to Atlanta in return for Joe Johnson? The backcourt of Jamal and Devin would give Atlanta one of the best scoring backcourts in the nba. Harris, Crawford, Willams, Smith, and Hordford gives the hawks a fun and exciting lineup.

I'm really not that fond of devin Harris. now rudy gay catches my attention

And even Danny granger though I don’t know how he will like coming off the bench(highly doubtful) Since we have the lion and josh duo

IF YOU CANT ACCEPT LOSING, YOU CANT WIN.

Danny Granger

Plays SF, so who would he be coming off the bench for? Definitely not Marvin. I like Granger also and would love that trade. I would really like Rudy Gay also

Not Bad....

Taking Harris wouldn’t be too bad…I mean not at all, Harris would FLOURISH in Atlanta with the kind of players we have,…oh and replacing Williams with someone like Rudy Gay would be a dream come true…I might actually cry.

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Why would New Jersey make this deal?

And would JJ be willing to go to the Nets? My guess is no. And we haven’t even seen what Teague can do yet.

Jamal is a perfect 6th man. If the Hawks end up with him starting next year, Rick Sund has failed.

How about this sign and trade...

Joe for Ray Allen, straight.

The Celtics probably want to get a little younger, and the Hawks could use another quality veteran. I’d think Teague starts at PG, and could next to Ray Allen who can be the distributor and point man in half court sets. He’d add an amazing shooter to combine with Bibby. And he wouldn’t want the years Joe does, so you’d still have future flexibility. And since they’d get youth, we could possibly get a 2nd round pick or future 1st out of it.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 11, 2010 8:17 AM EDT reply actions

And if you resign Chill....

Teague/Bibby
Allen/Jamal/Mo Evans
Chill/Marvin/Mo
Smoove/Zaza
Horford/Draft pick or mid level exception signing/Garrett Siler

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 11, 2010 8:19 AM EDT up reply actions

Surprised no one commented on Joe for Ray Allen...

I could see the Celtics wanting it because they get a younger SG to add to Rondo, Perkins, and Big Baby in their young core. Joe goes to a potential champion.

We get an outside shooter who can pass and work extremely well on offense, but possibly cheaper and certainly for fewer years. He improves our outside shooting immensely, is a deadly spot shooter for Horford and Smoove to kick out to, and moves the ball extremely well. Have them include a protected 1st, or maybe a 2nd round pick to even things out with the age difference (being that Boston would likely be in the mid to high 20s the next year or three, a first rounder isn’t a huge loss). Sign a younger SG/SF or C for depth with the mid level and bi-annual exceptions we have, and use your draft picks on big men to add depth there (any word if Cenk Akyol or Sergio Gladyr are going to play summer league?). And that is a playoff team, perhaps championship caliber depending on who else is added.

It’s a deal that makes a lot of sense from both sides imo.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 11, 2010 6:36 PM EDT reply actions

To continue...

Ray gives us a go-to shooter. His age isn’t too much of a concern since you can sub Jamal for him 20+ minutes per and rest him in the regular season. He’s a great veteran to join Bibby teaching the young core how to play and act. You still have the exceptions to add depth on the wings, with FAs Anthony Morrow, Travis Outlaw, Ronnie Brewer, Dorrell Wright, JJ Reddick, Matt Barnes, Rodney Carney, Antoine Wright, Wes Matthews, Randy Foye, Josh Howard, Mike Miller, Kyle Korver, Tony Allen, and of course the rights to Chill either to sign him as your young wing or trade for future considerations.

I honestly think that move would only save money and not be a game changing move...

He is more over the hill, sort of speak, than Joe is so IMO its a name for a name trade with a hope of getting some draft picks. Besides I hate we would have to trade Joe to Boston…are you serious?

Atlanta will win a championship....someday

by maxxj3 on Jun 11, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

He is older than Joe...

but I think he still has a couple good years left, and has a much less ball dominant style than Joe. He doesn’t dribble the air out of the ball and is much better at catch and shoot.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 12, 2010 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

well Ray Allen is a good shooter

But he is pretty one dimensional. I doubt he can do what JJ does. We need JJ and a big guy, and then we be awesome

by ATLpaul on Jun 12, 2010 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd rather have Morrow

And find some other way to SnT JJ for additional parts and picks. Morrow is just as good of a shooter and is younger, plus he’ll be cheaper for longer. Maybe he won’t be as good in the end, but at least he’ll have plenty of time to try and we’ll get the benefit of having him through his prime years.

I've never thought of Morrow as much of a defender...

maybe I’m wrong, but for whatever reason (primarily because I think he isn’t very quick) I’ve considered him average or below defensively on the NBA perimeter. Maybe I’m just thinking of Morrow as a FR/SO in college. Because of that I wonder if he’d be a good fit starting next to Bibby.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 14, 2010 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

B-Ref does have him at 114 DRtg for this past season, so I see your concern as that means JC was better defensively (110 DRtg). But are we still assuming the Bibby will start?

by Jesse28 on Jun 15, 2010 7:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Umm

Well, small sample size set aside, Teague (106 DRtg) was better defensively than Bibby (110 DRtg), had better numbers in TRB%, AST%, STL%, and BLK%, and given that Teague’s PER (11.0) really isn’t that muchoff from Bibby’s PER (12.7), I’d say that starting Teague over Bibby wouldn’t be much of a drop in overall production. What little extra Bibby provides offensively Teague more than makes up for defensively and that’s the side of the ball we’re hurting most.

Again, the small sample size is noted, but Teague is younger and faster and I think with more PT we would probably see him grow offensively.

by Jesse28 on Jun 15, 2010 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't disagree...

but you and I have both watched enough basketball to know that Bibby is the veteran and likely starter. Teague as a starter in the first game would require phenomenal growth over the summer and coming into the year. Not that he’s a bad player, but assuming almost all coaches inherit tendency to favor vets, Teague has to prove he can play before he gets the chance to start. Maybe he starts by the end of the season, but I just don’t see him starting the first game. Generally, he starts getting increased minutes and does well in them before he gets the chance to start.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 15, 2010 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh no doubt

I totally understand that, but if I think hard enough it might happen right? Plus, the way Drew has been talking it already sounds like he is leaning towards Teague to be the starting PG. If that is indeed the case, then let the boy play. Sometimes people only shine when thrown in the fire, but if you never throw them in it, you’ll never know.

However, there’s also the issue of how much Bibby is getting paid versus Teague and how much that causes the ASG to influence coaching decisions. Why stop at the GM?

How about this one

I have thought about this before, but the NBA finals have really made me think about it again. What about Shannon Brown? How do you ugys fell about him?

This is straying away from SnT territory, but I think that Brown is another one of those players that could easily fill in for additional gaurd depth.

by Jesse28 on Jun 16, 2010 7:23 AM EDT up reply actions

How much?...

For what we’d pay, is that any more than the Lakers would? Is he good enough to be a starting PG or starting SG?

I like Brown, just don’t think it’s a good fit.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 16, 2010 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions

B-Ref has him at $2mil for this season

Obviously the Lakers could probably pay him more, but was just thinking of how nice it would be to have someone like him coming off the bench. Like I said, I wasn’t thinking of him in a SnT involving JJ, just more along the lines of another name in your list above of additional resources.

Nice player...

I just doubt we’d sign him. He’s not a starter type in my eyes, and if we’re signing him as a backup, why wouldn’t he accept similar money and a similar role with his current club, where he can be a star in LA, play alongside and behind Kobe which he does well, and have a better chance for rings.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jun 16, 2010 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions

True.

Oh well, maybe we end up the same as last year, just with a different bus driver. Maybe a different route will lead us to a different destination.

Agreed

The only problem is that the bus company has this rule that restricts full capacity.

Well then let's make sure we make good use out of the seats...

that are full. Too many empty seats in one form (as in no one there) or another (as in not worth a seat).

Sounds good to me

I’ve got five on it.

Don’t we have enough wing guys? Isn’t Raja Bell, etc the same player essentially? Now I wouldn’t mind having Ray Allen for a leadership role. Turthfully, you need Granger or Gay for a better team.
