Atlanta Hawks June 15th Work Out Preview

Day two of Atlanta Hawks 2010 NBA Draft Work Outs. Today three players are supposed to work out highlighted by UConn Small Forward Stanley Robinson. New Mexico Small Forward Darington Hobson is also set to attend along with Pape Sy a small forward from France.

Atlanta Hawks Draft Work Out Schedule

Day 1 Work Out Preview

Individual Day 2 Player Breakdowns after the Jump

Star-divide

Darington Hobson

Six Foot Seven inch Small Forward from New Mexico. He is a JUCO player that only spent one season at New Mexico. He is versatile and athletic with a 6'9" wingspan. His areas to improve are his weight as he is slightly built at 205 pounds.  He lacks consistency in his long range perimeter game but has done enough to stay as a late first round possibility.

Stanley Robinson

Robinson is the biggest name on the docket for the June 15th workout. He is intriguing as well because he is an all world athlete. He possesses the ability and skill to be a nice player but sometimes has shown a lack of focus and has been very inconsistent. He is the type of player that could score 25 points on game and then 2 the next for no apparent reason. He projects as mid to late first round and I would be surprised if he fell into the second round. Someone will take a chance on all of that athletic ability.

Pape Sy

Sy is a six foot seven inch small forward from France.

Stanley Robinson

Is not a worthy 1st round pick he does have a better combination of height, length, and athletic ability than anyone on our team not named Josh Smith but he obviously does not know how to use it and that was shown in his inconsistent college play which lead to UConn being a disgrace and not even making the NCAA tourney. Hobson would be a good second round pick but is not worthy of a 1st round pick because he does not have ideal anything for the SF position.

I pretty much agree with you

but I don’t see him slipping to the second round. Somebody will take a chance on him. I have been a big Jim Calhoun fan over the years but this year’s UConn squad was very disappointing. You would watch Robinson in those games and think that he was capable of so much more than he was giving. He is an elite finisher on the break but just hasn’t produced consistently for whatever reason.

I don’t know why but he has always reminded me of Gerald Henderson. Not sure why of if I am completely out of touch there.

Interesting stuff on Pape Sy

I think he’s actually 6’3". I’ve seen him listed at 6’3" and 6’7". I haven’t seen a wingspan on this guy. There just isn’t a lot of information out there on him. However, when you look at his numbers from this past season in the league he played in, they are very similar to Rodrigue Beaubois’s numbers that he put up in his final season. Beaubois was a slightly better scorer on a per minute basis, as he averaged a little over 3 points more per 40 minutes than Sy, and they played different positions. However, both had similar TS% at around 62%. They both averaged around 2.0 steals per 40 minutes and around 0.7 blocked shots per 40 minutes. Beaubois averaged right at an assist more per 40 than Sy. Sy shot around 10% better from behind the arc and got to the free throw line at a higher rate.

I have no idea how similar they may be as players. I do know that Beaubois is one of those shorter guys with a tremendous wingspan, and he played well after being a first round pick for Dallas this past year. It will be interesting to see where Pape Sy ends up going, and it looks like the Hawks are definitely interested in him, as he will workout twice.

I'd go with 6'7 and not 6'3....

look at who he worked out with. Normally, you’ll see bigs with bigs, wings with wings, and Gs with Gs. If Sy was 6’3, who’s the other G to work out with him? Being that he showed up with F prospects, I’d say that makes him a F.
