i am all for booing poor effort
but I hope Joe does not get boo’d from the get go.
guy has done too much good for the Hawks to go out with boos.
as i said on twitter, we should be cheering him for making his leaving easy to take.
booing is the only fun left in this season thanks to the Hawks
When you are the team’s supposed best player, you’re scoring 9 ppg less than during the regular season, and you run your mouth about the fans after your most recent failure of a game, you deserve all the booing you get — as do almost all of your teammates and coaches.
It would be fun for the Hawks to retool successfully and meet Joe and his new team in the first round of the playoffs next season and beat them easily thanks to intimate knowledge of the flaws of the iso offense.
This series has been tear-worthy so far.
Hawks, you’re breakin’ my heart!
Question: Woody, what happened to the ball movement? Answer: I think our defense was pretty solid tonight. We held them to under 200 points so we did our job on that end.
Might as well bang this during intros:

Hello Everyone
I just want to say thanks to everyone for making this season more enjoyable. Living here in Sacramento, at times I do feel disconnected from the team and the fanbase. This site provided me a place to not only connect with other fans, but also assurance that whenever I suffer the hardships of this team throughout this season, that well…… at least I can suffer with others.
Althought I don’t have the high basketball I.Q. to memorize how the contract situations work, free agency, etc but I am still learning more about this team each time I come down here and read your guy’s opinions, rants, and jokes. I would like to thank every single one of you.
I know emotions are high at this point, but whatever transpires today and in the future, just remember today might be the last day we can watch this lovable, yet equally hateable bunch of {expletives}. But remember, they’re our bunch of {expletives}.
So please, at least join me this one time, possibly last time in saying:
LETS!!!!! GO!!!!!! HAWKS!!!!!

Let's be positive tonight
…for as long as our Hawks allow us to be. I’m realistic, but I’d like to see our guys come out fighting like a bunch of crazed dogs tonight, and get this W tonight.

I will be out tonight, not in white though, cheering
for our team. 0-3 or 3-0 I’m riding with my Hawks til the end. I remember all to well the Big Dog-Antoine Walker-Lon Kruger-Terry Stotts-era. And I expect to be chatting w/ everyone for Wed.’s game. And I hope 1 comment by 1 player (and by the way, I can see where JJ was coming from) will not be the deciding factor for people to come out tonight. The Spurs down 3-0 had a packed house. I just hope the it will be the same tonight w/ a different result.
I hope so....
…but you can’t use the Spurs as a reference point. SA has been a playoff team for over 10 years, and the Spurs are the only game in town. No pro football, baseball, or hockey, nor a FBS college team that is majorly supported in their area. SA takes pride in their Spurs (which is why players like to go there). Atlanta has the Falcons to follow come August, the Braves to see/ignore for the summer, and both Georgia and GA Tech playing well as of late.
49er and ATL Hawks fan since '86, Braves fan since '90, Bama fan since birth.
One last dance
I too can see how JJ could utter those now infamous words. My panties weren’t too much in a wad behind the comments because I know that he was angry and we tend to lash out at all costs when we’re angry. I think KG said something similar about the Bostonians a few months ago. The more I thought about the comment the more I thought that you can interpret it in more than one way. I took it to mean that regardless if 1 fan show up or 20,000 show up, they have to play basketball. I’m not saying what he said was right. I’m just saying I know I’ve said some things that I didn’t truly mean in the heat of the moment. If this is JJ’s last hurrah in Philips, I’d like to thank him for his years of hard work in helping us turn the corner on a 13 win season. Best of luck in the future if you decide to move on to greener pastures. Although every fiber of my mind tells me that we’ll lose big tonight, MY Atlanta Hawks have tought me that you can never really fully count them out. Or I’m the perfect picture of insanity. Go Hawks!!!!
Bet it hit the rim!
Not mad at Joe's statements...
but at his lack of leadership and play during this playoff run.
49er and ATL Hawks fan since '86, Braves fan since '90, Bama fan since birth.
I feel you
But do we really think he doesn’t want to win? How do you think he feels when he clanks another jumpshot? A missed layup? I’ve never paid any type of sports, but I’d imagine that would be taxing on the mind. Not taking up for him or anything, I’m just all out of anger.
Bet it hit the rim!
I agree
When I FIRST read his comments i was unravaled but because that was an emotional and frustrating night, I understand. but I love jj and stay or leave, this team will survive with a worthy replacement or replacements. like dsdeelite said, can’t count them out tonight. their full of surprises. go hawks!

Good little speech
But truthfully, we are about to watch a funeral. Maybe they move the team out of Atlanta because they don’t get enough support. I’m sure the arena is half-packed with it raining and the Hawks drowning

John Salmons?
I don’t know how much he’s looking at making but he can knock down a three. Bonner is also free but I don’t particularly like him as he is just a specialist and lacks defense.
J-J-J-J Joe JOHNSON for 3!
It's easy to knock Joe after his pitiful post season performance
But without him this team would have never won 50 games this year.
J-J-J-J Joe JOHNSON for 3!
We're also being swept by championship contenders
No one ever mistook the hawks for that.
J-J-J-J Joe JOHNSON for 3!
They're being destroyed by a team only slightly more talented
if at all.
It’s a testament to squandering talent through poor decision making, bad court awareness, and awful coaching.
An offensive philosophy would have helped
They look like a church league team on the offensive end.
J-J-J-J Joe JOHNSON for 3!
It's hard to blame the defense because the 3's are gonna rain
It’s “what they (magic) do”
J-J-J-J Joe JOHNSON for 3!
You will get your wish
A new coach will be brought in, there’s no way Woody can be brought back after this. Maybe the new coach will bring an offensive philosophy, a defense that doesn’t require constant switching, and a foot to stick up j-smoove’s ass when he’s not getting back on D.
J-J-J-J Joe JOHNSON for 3!
not to rub anything in here
but to say that the magic are only slightly more talented than the hawks is selling them way short.
I'm not willing to concede that there's more than a small difference in pure talent
One team just knows how to play on both ends of the floor, to move the ball, and to keep their best defensive players in the positions where they’re most valuable.
Another team is constantly putting themselves in bad positions on both ends of the court and failing to take advantage of what mismatches that they have.
Magic might be a much better team, but the talent levels doesn’t account for the disparity. The Hawks usually get by on just pure talent without any scheme or skill, but against teams like the Magic, that actually have plenty of talent in their own right, along with good coaching, they’re helpless.
Ignoranse is bliss
You don not have a center. you cannot drive the lane against a good center, you cannot put 8 guys on the floor that can shoot 37% of their threes. You cannot match up.
But you do need a new coach.

The only way to stop LeBron is Smith and Wesson, but even that's a double team.

Some will say this is shades of 1999
But again, I say, that may have been a sweep, but they lose by 6 points, 7 points, 12 points, and 13 points. Not 43, 12, 30, and 20ish.
That team never quit, and always left it out on the floor, even if they weren’t the most talented offensive club in the world. This team just quits at the first sign of adversity.
Horf never quit
sadly..he’s one of the few

Zaza doesn't quit
I also think Marvin isn’t completely delusional either, but he’s been without an offensive role on this team for years.
Turn out the lights, the party's over
they say all good things come to an end….but there’s nothing good that ever began in this series.

fine and I agree he should go
but takes nothing away from what he did for the other years he was here.
Nothing against him helping to get to this point, but when the chips were down, he went Vince Carter on us
…and I dang sure don’t mean the guy we’ve seen this series

True. But he sulked. And he pouted. And he never inspired his teammates. And he never showed one ounce of leadership. Or testicular fortitude.
NOTHING EASY!!!
Nope. Which is why I feel very bad for the fans of whatever team overpays him for the next 6 years.
NOTHING EASY!!!
You cannot overlook what he's done for this team.
You sound bitter. I’m not. It is what it is.
Bet it hit the rim!
I'm more bitter at Billy Knight for trying to build a team around a guy without the mentality to lead a team. (And for blowing all those lottery picks) :)
NOTHING EASY!!!
You can't go back in change what has already happened
Billy Knight assembled a team that increased in wins 5 years running. Did he make some mistakes? Hell yeah. Did some of it work out? Yes
Bet it hit the rim!
We had a chance with all those picks to build a championship competitor for a decade, and the Knightmare blew it. And now we have to start over again.
NOTHING EASY!!!
Picks are like the lottery numbers
You may or may not pick a great one…I.e Bowie

Josh
I thought he did a pretty good job at keeping quiet and not bitching at the refs, with the exception of the one call where Dwight obviously goal tended.
It’s impossible to beat a team when everyone is afraid to get anywhere near the paint, and when someone by chance does get to the paint, they don’t know what to do with the ball
I think Josh Smith might be the only player on this team who understands double teams and how to pass out of them
LMAO
You really believe that statement? Really?

which one?
Yes, I believe Josh Smith is the only player on this team who can pass out of a double team, or pass at all for that matter
And you would be wrong on both.
Al is a better passer out of the post, and and probably the best passer on the team right now.

Al
I can’t remember the last time I saw Al pass the ball at all once he got a post entry pass. He’s like a black hole out there
Did they even look to give it to him. First 3 or 4 times he touched it, he scored

JJ
I will not argue there. He’s the only player I can think of in the league who’s game is taking jumpers with guys right in his face. And he does it to himself – he dribbles endlessly until guys come up on him
open shots
our guards couldn’t do anything to stop dribble penetration. Drive and kick, drive and kick. It was getting very old
If there is one thing Josh really doesn't get, it is how to play non-highlight defense.
He goes for blocks instead of playing smart.
And then there are the times he doesn't bother to cross the time line
because he is pissed at something from the other end.
Bitching
He’ll never make an all star team if he keeps it up. I watched Ginobli last night and thought he got fouled at least five times that were not called. He just turned and ran up the court to play D
he came when nobody wanted to come to ATL
he deserves a little bit better treatment…ok so he wasn’t who we thought he would turn into but he did exactly what he did for the suns he was a piece of a good team
Sorry, but for what he was paid
he was supposed to be the main piece of this team

I was wondering about that.
They’ll probably wait until the late summer. Oh God please don’t make us wait.
Bet it hit the rim!
For the record...
Bibby has two more years on his deal. He’s stuck with us. Bet you wish we could have given him a one year deal at the beginning, don’t we?
49er and ATL Hawks fan since '86, Braves fan since '90, Bama fan since birth.
Bibby is done.
He is too much of a liablility on a playoff team.
That's funny
Because after he was re-signed, they showe him happy has a lark talking about he was going to the gym to work out. Really?
Bet it hit the rim!
I'd deal him for a second round pick right now
The sooner Teague becomes the starter, the better. There are cheaper options for veteran PG’s out there.

We might be able to unload him on the Lakers, but I'd kinda like him to stick around and mentor Teague.

Would rather have the cap space

Even Nash plays more D than Bibby.
Nash is bad but Bibby is a human scarecrow out there.
understatement of the year.
We have way more talent than we did in the previous year, and we end up with the same result.
Agreed
I would like to see a change in defense, especially all the switching, maybe some non isolation offense, and a driver/creator off the dribble
I'd just like to see some semblance of an offensive gameplan that doesn't involve isolation plays

Yes it is.
This team has reached it’s ceiling. ASG will not spend to get a viable coach, so you know a cheap assistant will be the new coach. Just let Joe walk, trade who you can for cap space, and retool for 2011

I figured....
I’d tune in and watch the Hawks last game together…
-Kick Joe outta ATL….don’t even attempt to re-sign em.
-Deal Smoove aka Tender.
-Remove Marv(in)elous
-Start Teague
-Move AL to the 4.
-Go after Bosh or Amare.
- Coax Hubbie Brown to coach once more.
Outta the 7 things I mentioned…unfortunately only 2 will happen.
What does Bosh offer? He's about as soft as Bibby on defense
I don’t get the Bosh hype.
Bet it hit the rim!
Clank'em has one more year
If he can’t improve, he’s going too.

Smoove
I’d really like to see him work on his game in the offseason – improve his midrange jumper and get a couple go to post moves
Please don't start with the "Get Wade, Bosh, Lebron" chant!

I hate everything Lebron....
Gotta hate someone in life….might as well be Kobe & Lebron.
Ain't like the hawks could pull it off anyway....
Lebron won’t take a step backwards when his current teammates are WAY better than the hawks supporting cast from a consistency stand point.
if you are talking next year stuff, a new thread is up
if you are complaining about player, stay here.
(and I know those are not necessary mutually exclusive but they should be pretty close if your argument is any good).
When is the last time a big name, top tier player who's at the top of his game changed teams in FA?
Bet it hit the rim!
Wade should....
They haven’t built anything around him, and there coach isn’t developing any talent.
Wade is at the same spot he was the year after he got the title and Shaq left.
