The Most Important Thing About: Tonight's Game

Tonight, the Hawks host the Charlotte Bobcats at Philips Arena in what begins a 2-game homestand against a pair of teams that test the Hawks mettle as a team.

With Joe Johnson hobbled and the Bobcats ready with a defense that can make the Hawks pay for inefficiency, what is the most important thing to gain from the game tonight?

Some thoughts:

  • Continue to work towards a 48 minutes complete effort on both ends.
  • Just getting the win, no matter how.
  • No more injuries.
  • More work for Teague.
  • Better work for Marvin.

You get the picture so hop in the comments area and let if fly---what is your Most Important Thing about tonight's game?

Get the win. The Bobcats aren’t so good a team that the Hawks can’t beat them in Atlanta minus Joe Johnson.

Joe is back tonight.

Per MC and the Newberry on the hawks.com site.

Well then all the more reason the Hawks should win. :)

I be there in person tonight

Have to give the Hawks some love, will be screaming for them. We own this team, i am not worried, the one game we lost, was the tail end of a long trip. Yep they went and added some more bodies and i really like TT (smoove in making). But we should still own them assuming JJ will play. Go Hawks

Totally agree on Tyrus

Would have love to have stolen him—-I don’t get Chicago sometimes.

They really didn't want compete this year

They’re waiting just like New York

Atlanta will win a championship....someday

by maxxj3 on Mar 19, 2010 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Say they, and not NY are the ones that go after JJ...

and he’d probably be a better fit than Luol Deng next to Derrick Rose, so it makes some sense. But would you (and I ask the entirety of Peachtree posters) be willing to move JJ for Kirk Hinrich and a couple draft picks? Then say sign Randy Foye or another young G, and not really give up on 2010-11, but allow for a big summer of 2011 when Crawford and Hinrich’s salaries come off the books? With the right bench additions at SF/PF/C, we’d have a rotation of Smooth, Zaza, Marvin, and Horf up front, with Hinrich, Bibby, Teague, Crawford, and a kid in the backcourt.

Would you do Hinrich and Deng for Joe Jo and Marvin?

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 19, 2010 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions

no

There would be no significant point to that unless there was someone big next year. Also, I would have to see how the draft lines up as well. We still can’t overlook getting a big body, unless that’s what you’re talking about

by maxxj3 on Mar 19, 2010 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I would think we'd target a big body with the draft pick this year...

and the point, in my eyes, (not the Deng idea, but Hinrich and picks) would be a couple picks for future help, and with Hinrich he gives us a potential starter at the 1 or 2, solid defensively, good piece within an offense although not a go to weapon. He’d be a good player to have if only for a year.

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 19, 2010 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I would consider trading JJ

But not for Kurt Hairlick . No freaking way, he is a bust in Chicago, and i want nothing to do with him. All you need to do, is read the Chicago blogs, and see the hate for Curtis Hairlick.

I also don’t get Chicago, I mean they took Celtics for all Celtics had last year, and then poof, they just let everything go. But hey, that is the same team that let Jordan and Phil Kackson go, what do i know….I don’t thinkt they get southerners, unless they are named Jordan

by ATLpaul on Mar 19, 2010 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

And Salmons has been a solid player in Milwaukee...

Hinrich isn’t worth the contract he was given, but then this idea only has us on the hook for one year before getting substantial space after next year when he and Crawford are free agents. Can play the 1 or 2, either starting over Crawford for a year next to Bibby or pushing Bibby to the bench. I think he could fit in nicely here.

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 19, 2010 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Not a chance

Just visit blogabull and you’ll see why. They loathe Kirk over there. They think he’s overpaid and overrated. I’ve watched him play and lately he looks lost out there on the court and dribbles around aimlessly. No thank you.

Bet it hit the rim!

trade bibby for hinrich maybe

by maxxj3 on Mar 19, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

NO

JJ for Rose ok. Dand and a first round pick maybe.

by RivBoatGambler on Mar 19, 2010 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Do we really need Josh Smith, but a bit worse?...

Tyrus wouldn’t have been much here.

And to answer the original question using the words of Al Davis, “Just win baby.” Let the frontcourt go about killing them softly, have Joe come back like a man possessed, have Marvin show NJ was no fluke (although with JJ back, I’d expect at best 12 and 5), have Bibby and Teague show why Felton and Augustin suck, or have Jamal go off for 50, I don’t care how they do it, so long as they just win baby.

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 19, 2010 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions

With or Without (or limited) Joe Johnson, Hawks need to win this.

They continue to be a team that does much better at home, and have enough pieces to compete without JJ in the line up.

yeah, that's up to woodrow

hopefully Mo evans gets in there since he’s got rhythm. Hope he uses the bench….please

We love him and want him to grow. Good tough game for that

Just win Baby

Don’t need that loss against the Raptors to be the start of a two or three game losing streak.

Plus I will be there tonight too so I am really hoping for a win.

Teague needs to work on making plays when he gets in the paint

And Marvin needs to not be awful. But mostly, I’m just waiting on the playoffs. At this point, the Hawks are what they are. Sure, they have an outside shot at the a division title, but probably headed to a 3 or 4 seed. For me, there’s not really any reason to look forward to anymore regular season games.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m still probably going to watch all but maybe two or three of the games, I just won’t look forward to them as much as earlier in the season.

by dmortone on Mar 19, 2010 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

THE most important thing is

Smoove getting his head back into the game for 48 minutes. He probably has ADD. I just finished reading the article about him SI. I think he’s going through withdrawals from not shooting 3’s. According to the article, he really thinks he can make them. Uh oh!

Bet it hit the rim!

by dstdeelite on Mar 19, 2010 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

yeah, I've played and met guys

who are in denial of their own game. I assumed he was about his jumper. It really is too late in his career to be known for outside shooting, cause it can cause a rift in the team if he “practices shooting” on the team’s time.

Champions

3 of 5 starters for Hawks have won NCAA championships and still we don’t have the it factor or the know-how when it comes to winning. Most important factor is we don’t have it factor.

Jamal Crawford's little brother Jordan

put on a show today against Minnesota. That aught to pump up Jamal to get 60, lol
