Playoffs are near!!!
We are a month or so until we find out how much heart the Hawks really have. I'm not sure how early these talks are but: What playoff senario would best fit the Hawks for a long playoff run? Or how about this: How would the Hawks need to exploit each playoff senario to win it all??
I personally would like the Hawks to get their swagger back and string some wins together to take the division. Win that and they have the 2 seed going against either Char, Mia, or Tor in the 7th seed. The first round can easily be won with home court advantage.
Then there's likely Boston in the second (which could be a different team since Boston is playing very sub-par). The Hawks have a lot of confidence beating this team and it might go 6 or 7.
That leaves Cleveland and Orlando to kill themselves leaving us to feast of them when they are done. The Lakers have a good chance (meaning if the bear doesn't catch them) to be back in the finals. And in that the Hawks only mis-match (as far as front court) in the west.

Of all first round opponents...
I’m wanting Toronto. Miami can give us problems, and there’s always Wade going off/getting every unreal call. Charlotte has our numbers, and Milwaukee just seems dangerous if not too young. Toronto we can crush, that’s who I want in round 1.
I'd rather have charlotte than Miami
because Atlanta this year hasn’t matched Miami physicallity….if that’s a word
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
hmm
I think I’d much rather see Toronto > Miami > Milwaukee > Charlotte. This morning on NBA Fast Break they had us against Charlotte in the first round. I want to stay away from them, but if we win that one, we would possibly get Orlando in the second round.
If the Hawks aren’t careful and focused, they could get bounced in the first round. That would be crappy.

id take Toronto in the first round or charlotte
Between Orlando and Cleveland, I would take Cleveland because I believe we can compete with them. Orlando depends on confidence and until I see us play them one last time, that’s gonna be a tough call

I am not worried about first round
Hawks as the are made up, can beat any of those teams they match against in the first round with home court advantage. Should not be difficult. But I don’t like Milwaukee, an awkward team that will battle you tooth and nail.
As for second round, I am much more nervous about Orlando, than Cleveland. Yes King is tough, and he will get all the ref calls, but, I think we match better with the Cavs. Even with Shaq or Z, they are slow. I do not want to see Orlando, who to me is the best team in the East.
We need the blue shell to be able to take out 1st place Cleveland
I’d much rather face the inconsistent vince carter over king james

Getting the 2nd seed is our only hope for a deep run
We can not afford to go against Orlando or Cleveland in the second round w/o home court advantage. I believe when we are on our game, we can beat any 5 through 8 seed so I think we can get out of the first round. However, with the number 2 seed, we most likely face Boston in the second round with home court and like Maxxj3 said let Orlando and Cleveland beat each other up. This is our only shot at the finals or the Conference finals at that. The Lakers, Mavs, and Nuggets all have good inside play and thus our only shot to beat them is to run them out of the gym with our bigs which Horford and Josh are capable of doing. Good post.

March 17th reply
Magic have to play the Spurs and Heat in the next few games and then we have a face to face. The Spurs have the best chance. If orlando lost one of those games and we win the match up – we would be tied with Orlando having the tie breaker. Of course we have to go on a winning streak and orlando – has to lose a couple of key games – but it is not impossible – I see a path.

I agree with most people here...
I really hope that Orlando gets matched up with Miami in the first round. For some reason, Miami hasn’t had too many problems with the Magic. Maybe they can at least take them to 6 or 7 games. In addition, it would be nice if Cleveland was matched up with Charlotte. The Cavs have also had problems with the Bobcats this season. The Hawks can really beat most low seeds if they actually show up and give an effort.
I think it would almost take a miracle for the Hawks to advance past the 2nd round this year. Even with the 2nd seed and home court advantage, I wouldn’t like their chances vs Orlando. I don’t see Boston playing well enough or Orlando badly enough to get the Hawks a 2-3 matchup vs Boston in round 2. Atlanta would need something freaky to happen like an injury to Dwight Howard or Lebron James or Cleveland or Orlando to be upset in the first round to get to the conference finals.
Without home court in the conference finals, the Hawks would again need help from an injury, Lebron getting 4 fouls in the first quarter of a game in Cleveland, or something else unlikely to win that series. The same logic would apply to a finals matchup vs LA, Denver, or Dallas (the most likely West champs). So the only way I see a Hawks championship would look like this:
- Hawks win 2nd seed, Orlando wins 3rd seed
- Orlando loses to 6th seed in round 1
- Hawks win round 2 against the 6th seed
- Lebron James is injured in game 1 of Eastern Finals
- Hawks win East
- Kobe Bryant is injured in game 1 of Finals
- Hawks are champs! Yay!
lol
Orlando is still good without Dwight. I don’t think he is the main problem when the Hawks face them. The main problem with any team the Hawks face is the predictable approach the Hawks have. If they come with energy and passion they may upset people. But where will it come from?
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
Sure just like the Hawks are still good without Joe. But if you’re an opponent, you like your chances better vs the team without its star than with.
What I was alluding to is that
even without Dwight they run their offense and defense and the Hawks will still have to work on perimeter defense.
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
At this point in the season.....all we want to know is.....
Do we want Cleveland or Orlando? Cause it’s a fight to the finish for the 3rd and 4th seeds with Boston. Cleveland, Orlando, Saints, Vikings, Finkle, Einhorn, either way you have to face the music. And why should a professional basketball team be afraid to play any apponent? I wouldn’t stand it for my players to have any doubt about our capabilities in the playoffs. I mean who doesn’t play to win?
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
I say Cleveland. Please, Please, Please!
Yes it sounds great to say in your pep talk, that you guys can get the job done against anybody. The truth is that Orlando should scare the crap out of us, they have shown their ability to dominate the Hawks this season, also you can use the revenge angle from last post season to fire up the troops.

Between Cleveland and Orlando
Based on current performances, one must want to play Cleveland. We have not been very competitive with Orlando, and the combo of their outside shooting, and muscle man, is very difficult for us to contain or help. Help Lion, and their tons of outside shooters kill us. Have Lion go one on one, and muscleman will have a big night. I don’t see some of the same matchup problems with Cavs, though they are a bit of a different team now, without Shaq and with a new hired hand.
If we play Orlando though, we have to play Muscle man one on one. I rather he scores 30 points, than their multiple shooters keep making 3 pointers.
