JOE FOR CHRIS

Before you laugh. i have found the best best deal for the Hawks.Yes ..Joe Johnson for Chris Paul.I think the Hawks should do a sign and trade with the Hornets this summer. Darren Collison  is averaging an amazing Chris Paul like number of  18pts and 8 rebounds in March. The guy is lightning quick and is playing close to 40 mins a game . This makes him a cheaper replacement for Paul. With 1 year under his belt, look for him -Darren to explode next season.

With the trade, this makes the Hornets an elite team in the West. They fix their problem of a 2 guard and now have one of  the best backcourts in the West.

For the Hawks, this will be a dream come true. Josh and Chris pick and roll will be a thing of beauty!!.  What do you think? Ofcourse there will be other players in the deal to make the numbers  work.

Hawks fans will now be able to turn their nightmare of the 05 draft into a sweet dream ..

no way

theres no way, the hornets doing this deal…

cp3 does much more than posting 18/8.

i dont think this will work out

by zup11 on Mar 12, 2010 9:31 AM EST reply actions

the hornest would never do it

and if they were crazy (and by crazy, I mean beyond crazy) and did want to trade CP3, it would be to save money, not add a big new contract.

but in every way of awesome, that would be awesome yes.

Would you do Joe for Collison?...

not an even swap, but it does give us a future PG option to battle with Teague. What teams would be legit options to attempt a sign and trade for Joe? New Orleans, maybe Golden St, Memphis, New York, Miami, Cleveland, Chicago, and ????

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 12, 2010 9:54 AM EST up reply actions

I would do JJ for Collison

I look 3 years ahead, Or JJ for Tyreak Evens. JJ for any top ten PG that playes good defense passes the ball. We simply need to cut salary for future Josh and Al money. JJ is awesome but we need value for value and go younger.

Oh would you now?

Somehow, I don’t think JJ is interested in that kinda deal.

Seriously, what would be an ideal return if we had to move Joe in a sign and trade?...

Hinrich? Deng? Monta Ellis? Rudy Gay? Delonte West and Anthony Parker? Chris Kaman?

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 12, 2010 10:11 AM EST up reply actions

in my opinion

an upgrade of any starting position (pg and small forward being the easiest) and even a small addition to the bench would be more than enough if the Hawks are forced to/want to not sign Joe.

they are not going to get equal current value for him I would not think.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 12, 2010 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

I'm resigning myself to a similar fact..

if we won’t pay Joe as much as others, the best choice is to work out a sign and trade to upgrade with young talent at any spot. But we won’t get an equal talent return (at least in terms of present day production) in any deal.

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 12, 2010 11:00 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah

But if we take one of their bad contracts, they might be willing to do it. It is not like the team as constituted has any chance of winning a championship.

by dkrib on Mar 12, 2010 12:32 PM EST up reply actions

Add money

They traded for Okafor which resulted in more money so don’t rule that out.

by dkrib on Mar 15, 2010 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Why not

Darren is looking very much like a starting point guard. Which means they cannot keep both Chris and Darren. I am guessing, Darren will not get as much trade value as Paul. Also, Chris is not exactly happy being in New Orleans. If the Hawks is willing to take one of their many bad contracts( Peja, Posey) off their hands, this would look like a win for New Orleans. No doubt, Chris for Joe makes them a better team than having both Chris and Darren.

by dkrib on Mar 12, 2010 12:25 PM EST reply actions

Still needs more...

like Paul and Posey for Joe and multiple draft picks (as in at least 2, if not 4 #1s). If that’s the deal, we’d need to move Bibby or Teague for a starting SG (or just salary relief and sign a cheap defensive guy like Raja Bell).
Next year would be
Paul Bib/Teague
Bell Crawford
Marvin Posey
Smooth Zaza
Horf Zaza

Nah!

Paul is crazy talented but no wouldn’t let him go and Idk if he would even fit in

Rolls Royce vs. Mercedes vs. Mustang

CP is a Rolls Royce player, very few of those in the league, probably the best point guard in the world. JJ as great as he is, is a Mercedes, a smooth luxury car with prestige and power, but not in the uber class of CP. Unless NO is desperate to move CP, this won’t happen.

NO would not get rid of a Rolls Royce unless they can extract more from the Hawks.

Now with that said, what would NO do with 2 point guards? CP’s injury has shown Collison to be crazy talented, like a fresh new Mustang that is fast and powerful. Now what we don’t know, is if Collison talent has legs, but it sure looks promising. Get Collison for JJ? Only if we know for sure we are losing JJ. That is not a fair trade, JJ is worth more than Collision. So we need more.

As I have said before, we need to focus on keeping our core players, and then build. Not trade key players. Would I go for CP for JJ? Absolutely, who wouldn’t? But I doubt it is a realistic scenario.

by ATLpaul on Mar 14, 2010 8:31 AM EDT reply actions

Would you consider adding Marvin to the deal?

NO with the team as constituted are not winning. They have too many bad contracts. If I am them , I would look at the deal especially if the Hawks make it good by either adding Marvin or/and getting back Peja or Posey. These are bad contracts that NO want to get rid of.
A core of Josh,AL and CP3 can be built around with average players…

by dkrib on Mar 15, 2010 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions

I would trade Marvin and JJ for CP

in theory :) I mean CP is one of a kind

Sorry about that Jon Scheyer 3

I’m still hoping for big things out of FSU, Maryland, and GT in te tourney though. I bet y’all can beat OK State. I’m pretty sure Clemson and wake will lose 1st round

by coachkcastellon on Mar 15, 2010 11:27 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Clemson always loses round 1...

the question is though, can Duke finally make it to/past a Sweet 16 given their easy draw with the second best team in their region as a 9 seed? Well Villanova too, but they are on the opposite side of the bracket. Seriously though, Baylor, Texas A&M, and a depleted Purdue that lacks their best player? As their main spokesperson loves to say, that region is “Cupcake City, baby!”.

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 15, 2010 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

That bit about Clemson is the truth

And about Scheyer, all I can say is “meh”, dude made a great shot off a perfectly execute screen. There is nothing negative to say to that. We also shot ourselves in the foot with our dismal FT shooting. Set an all-time record low for an ACCCG at like 54% or something.

I think we can get past OK St as well, but the FT’s will catch us again soon after.

Oliver Purnell has never won a tournament game...

never. No joke it’s the “truth”. Noel Johnson made the wrong choice imo shoulda stayed in state, where he could have played a load more minutes, had a legit role for a quality team, and gotten competent coaching.

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 15, 2010 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah Duke gets a lot of love

Kinda the opposite of the Hawks treatment.

It’s funny—I wish the postseasons could switch. Duke could take anyone in a best-of-7 series with smart, methodical basketball. Meanwhile I think ATL’s only shot against Cleveland or Orlando is banking on one hot game where LeBron misses shots or Dwight gets into foul trouble.

Looks like CP3 is expendable in NO

lol my favorite quote

If Paul ended up with the Hawks, would I get a chance to go back and cheat on my 2005 taxes?

Just cause they might be willing to trade him...

doesn’t mean they won’t demand a HUGE premium price.
