Love it Or Hate it Flaws and All

Josh Smith's Jumpshot v.s. Joe Johnsons Isolation

Okay, I contradict myself so much on these two topics that it should be a crime. The main reason I hate and love these two moves is because I have been watching these players for a very long time and its hard not to criticize your favorite players. Its no secret Josh's game has grown, but we all know when we see him set his feet we all start to cringe at the possibility of  that brick.

Although, there are occasional times where I want him to take that shot which is a reason unknown to me. He is getting better at this jumper and now I have to bite my tongue to the best of my ability because that jumper on a consistent basis could mean smoove will be unstoppable.

(Im still cringing looking at him)

Now jj is my screen saver and my first hawks jersey(after 'nique of course), but I cant shake the urge to want him to pass it. Although when he has games like against oklahoma and the clippers, who am I to criticize? Right? JJ has been in the league long enough to gain respect for everything he does although there are bitter sweet effects to his game. I have learned to live with them but cant help wonder if he did this or that..........

hm......

i actually hate it when josh shoots jumper, but no one can blame him for taking a wide open shot, unless there are better shots available. Also, the fact of the matter is that Josh just needs coaching to teach him how he is supposed to shoot, and it looks ugly mainly because he is left handed, i’ve never seen a prettty left handed jumpshot. so i would have to go with joe’s Isolation to be thrown out the window. He over does it, and josh doesn’t shoot as many jumpers anymore. Josh needs to get better at Jumpers, but joe…. just shouldn’t really do isolations… even if he got better at scoring.. he should not do as many isos…. the thing is it’s about using your teammates. like what i’m basically trying to say is that josh needs to take at least some jumpers, and joe would be fine if he never did an isolation play. I mean, i would not like to see joe never ever isolate, but the fact is…. he does… way too much…

Brandon Jennings shoots left handed but it doent look ugly

I think Josh shot looks ugly because he takes his time not because he is left handed.

honestly

i think his shot is ugly, or at least unorthodox, and even so, most left handed shots are ugly, even if you exclude B jennings… Look at Michael Redd, people said his shot was never going to be good because it was ugly and it was too quick. Tayshaun prince….just saying typically left handed ppl have ugly shots

What's funny

Is that someone is actually challenging Josh’s shot

Atlanta will win a championship....someday

The correct reponse to josh Smith pulling up

Is to get as far away from him as possible.

Anyway, Josh’s mechanics for his jumpshot is all messed up. His release point is always a tweener. Usually, the release point for a jumpshot is either right at the jump or at the peak of the shot, but Josh releases sometime between the two. His shot has way too much elbow in it, you can see the way he cocks up for it-more elbow than wrist. Even his jump is weird. A natural jumpshot motion is slightly in the direction of the basket, with the exception of the highly difficult fall-away jumpers that guys like JJ take. Josh seems like he’s always straight up and down. While that’s not wrong, it’s definitely more rare than letting his momentum take him toward the basket.

I mean, his shot reminds me of seeing a kid who knew nothing about shooting, went to a two day basketball camp where someone taught him the proper shooting fundamentals, and comes back thinking he’s suddenly a jump shooter. But his form isn’t practiced enough to be solid, and he doesn’t have the correct-enough fundamentals to continue improving on his own.
