Offseason possibilities if we lose Joe Johnson.

Well i've been pondering what we will do in FA if we lose Joe Johnson. I'm still open for a trade maybe we could aquire Devin Harris if NJ get's LeBron and John Wall. Othr possibilities might be Jamison, or maybe Teague could step in. For FA I have no idea because we won't be getting one of the big boys for sure. Please can someone tell me some of the FA possibilities if we lose JJ, I really can't think of any. And any trade ideas would be grea to hear as well!

Its hard to find someone to replace jj........

I hope we lock him down come summer cause this team could do a downward spiral if we dont find a worthy replacement

Considering he wants money...

a possible sign and trade?

Personally, I’m still for bringing back Chill if Johnson walks.
PG-Bibby/Teague
SG-Jamal/Chill
SF-Marvin/Chill
PF-Smoove/Marvin?
C-Al/Zaza
If we could add a solid F and then a shot blocking C like say Joel Pryzbilla, that’d be a pretty solid unit. And of course, you’ve got that late first that could be a Gani Lawal, Luke Babbitt, Willie Warren, Jerome Jordan, Grevis Vasquez, or other solid bench piece.

Chill would be great, I was wishing we would have brought him and David Anderson back for this season…

IMO, the only way JJ is traded is a sign and trade. I just don’t see anybody offering more than the Hawks.

Barring a trade,

I’d like to go after Michael Redd and Raja Bell. Bell is a lock down defender that can hit threes, assuming his wrist heals. Redd has an 18mil player option next year, so I guess he’ll probably stay in MKE, but if he doesn’t, he’s a good value considering our monetary situation.

Overall, that’s a pretty bleak situation, which makes signing JJ that much more important. There is a relatively low degree of risk in giving him a max contract considering he’s a great shooter with no injury history that utilizes his size more than his quickness on offense. He’ll obviously deteriorate, but there are riskier ways to spend the money, and many of the better ways wouldn’t even come to ATL. So, our options are limited.

Looking at our salary situation:

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/atlanta.htm

2011/2012 is the year we’re going to have a chance to be legitimate Championship favorites. Jamal’s contract is coming off the books. Josh Smith will be better, somehow. We’ll need to resign Horford, but we’ll still have room to add the final piece from a ridiculous deep 2011 FA Class.

If JJ leaves, I think we should get a stop gap (Raja Bell), and go for it all in 2011.

lets hope so

but we should try to put a franchise tag on him to prevent FA

The best option is definitely going to be a sign and trade if we lost JJ...

The best possible option might be with the Spurs for Maun Ginobili.

Apparently the Spurs are a little worried about his ankle, and they might not pick up his option this year. JJ just seems like a Popovich-type player (which is why we shouldn’t get rid of him), but I love Manu.

I remember reading an article about Kobe and how he respected Manu’s game as much as anyone. His game is crazy, and we’d lose a ton defensively, but losing JJ’s offensive production is obviously the biggest concern, and Manu might be the best insurance.

Here’s a the fantasy bball note that got me thinking about this:

“Mar 9 G Manu Ginobili, 32, can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. San Antonio’s brass has wanted to see how Ginobili fared this season after enduring ankle injuries. His early season was touch-and-go, but over the last month Ginobili has been his old free-wheeling self. If the Spurs don’t lock him up before the season ends, Ginobili is expected to test free agency, and there are plenty of teams that have been clearing their books in anticipation of the summer of 2010.”

Who would be sign and trade matchups?...

Maybe Toney Douglas since the Knicks have so much cap space and the Jonesboro native can battle Teague for PG of the future?

by Mr. Sanchez on Mar 9, 2010 12:01 PM EST up reply actions

If we're gonna steal someone from the Knicks, I'd rather have Wilson Chandler

A good sign and trade target is anyone who would want to go after JJ, assuming we can’t sign him. Priority #1 should be signing him. Priority #2 would be to get something for him if we can’t sign him. Since we have JJ’s Bird rights, he can make more money from us, so the best avenue for him financially would be to either sign with the Hawks or sign with the Hawks and get traded. Therefore, it could literally be anyone who wants JJ.

I like Chandler too, ...

but can’t see the Knicks parting with him. He’d likely be with Galinari as the two young pieces they plan on using to build around any big time signings this summer.

I’d take Douglas though and let him battle it out with Teague, plus he’s a solid outside scorer so he could fill 6th man shoes in the mold of Ben Gordon, Eddie House, etc, if he proves not to be an adequate PG. If Joe is moved through a sign and trade, you’d have to think the first desire would be for young backcourt help, then a legit shotblocker and rebounder at C behind Horford, and then just quality depth/draft picks.

Or,

We can do everything in our power to get Darren Collison and never hear about Chris Paul again. I support that as well.
