All-star weekend open thread or a break for me too

Outside of us trading for LeBron, expect light posting over the All-Star break. I will miss you dearly, but I have been yearning to get to Wally World for some time now. Be back Sunday. I can make no assertions for Bronn's vacation status, and fan posts are still open for business.
Consider this an open thread for all all-star happenings. A brief batch of over/unders to kick it off.
12 minutes for Al Horford and Joe Johnson combined.
6 shots of Jerry Jones during the game.
1 references to Dominique being robbed in the dunk contest in 1988.
1 Bicep flexes by Al Horford.
10 liquor drinks Josh Smith will consume on Saturday
Go Hawks!

Congrats to JJ for moving into the starting lineup in the ASG!!!
Go JJ!!!! Represent ATL well and try not to get hurt, please.
Sorry. Just had to tell SOMEBODY that would appreciate
Just got my tickets to see the Hawks play Dallas!
according to an ajc blog
jj turned down the chance to play for usa bball pool thingy(lol). I think it was a good choice though.
he was approached this weekend
And he declined to join them. thoughts?
by Hawksgirl on Feb 13, 2010 9:56 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
I definitely feel it's a personal choice
Since he’s already participated, I don’t think it’s an issue. I think the summer should be used as a time to rest your body and hone your skills at leisure.
I think he was going to get cut any way.
With Kobe and LeBron on board already it would be tough for JJ to make the team. Plus he may have been there done that attitude.

Anybody watching JJ and Smitty in the shooting stars contest?
by dstdeelite on Feb 13, 2010 8:37 PM EST via mobile reply actions
The Dunk Contest needs to be revamped
You should only get two chances to make the dunk. The only reason Nate wins is because he’s short. It’s becoming a joke. Just like the HORSE competition. If all it’s going to turn into is a 3 point shoot out for Kevin Durant, just give him the trophy and stop wasting everybody’s time.

Nobody's being creative
no props, nobody jumping over fire, nobody jumping over David Stern, Something!!! I know I was coming up with dunks in my head that they could have done.
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
boring boring boring
I hope the allstar game is more exciting. it seemed like Atlanta heir shooting team was really serious and quiet. and the dunk contest………i was bored. and Im with hawksdawgs on the 3 point contest. I preferred Stephen curry over pierce. He is such a natural scorer and has a nice form(and he is cutwe lol)

Wasn't Juan Dixon one of the guys who was at the Hawk's training camp?
He tested positive for steroids overseas

Al doing great!
Joe looks good as well.
Man…if Josh and JC were in this game, it would be so much more entertaining.
From Bob Rathbun...
@hawksvoice East has as many pts at half than hawks had the entire game vs heat last wednesday
didn't Alicia Keys start when she was like 16?
if so, she is an underrated lead contender for child star transitioning to adult star.
would have been nice to see jj up there...............
But he is trying to achieve something different this year
by Hawksgirl on Feb 14, 2010 10:16 PM EST via mobile reply actions
still can't believe dwight has a three

The Radio Shack "Weird Science" commercial is one of my faves.
Right there next to the Kobe puppets rapping.
i am not going to do a post about it
but the Hawks now have a protest and a postponement where, when the game is actually played, the roster of the opposing team is totally different.
these sorts of things i find wildly entertaining.
Allow me to stir that pot...
If we’re the Celtics, Heat or Lakers….does that still go down the same way?
And to add to that...
Not sure if anyone here was even alive at the time, but remember when the Hawks and Celts had to re-play a game because a heat wave hit the Northeast and the ice under the Boston Garden was thawing? Players slipped all over and they called the game. I want to say it was like 1990 or 1991?
How does this stuff continually happen to the Hawks?
I was born but not old enough
That is very fascinating. as If fate would have the hawks screwed everytime………wow
by Hawksgirl on Feb 14, 2010 10:35 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
lol
I wish I was old enough to remember that
by Hawksgirl on Feb 14, 2010 10:41 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Your full of wisdom and great moments most can only see replays……….your not that old trust me
by Hawksgirl on Feb 14, 2010 10:47 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
quit yer crying
I remember that game vaguely. And there are plenty of us around here who are old enough and older. I’m 29 and I know there are some here older than I.

by Hawksgirl on Feb 14, 2010 10:54 PM EST via mobile reply actions
He was afraid Dewayne would fall off his chair and grab his head.
Thus drawing a flagrant 2.

Wow. Drew Gooden is the new Chris Gatling.
For you kids on here, he was traded to every team ever in the 1990’s.
just cause I happened to not know that...............
Never mind. I’m a baby still learning about this game of basketball

lets see who can finish
East or west
by Hawksgirl on Feb 14, 2010 11:34 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Awesome game.
Horf was great. Joe did well. We knew that if Woody wasn’t the coach, we wouldn’t see them much.
The East were
dominant at times. But the West has better shooters. But the East…….has pure atheleticism. Joe and KG were just watching Lebron, Wade, and Dwight just run all game. Best line-up: Wade, Lebron, Howard, Bosh, Johnson
Atlanta will win a championship....someday
Watched on a delay
Didn’t want the commercials, so I mostly watched the Olympics. Observations on the All-star game:
Watching that game, you can’t tell me David Lee is an All-Star and Josh Smith is not. You merely can’t. What a horrible choice as a replacement. In a game made for highlights-and there were plenty-Josh Smith needed to be there showing off his skills.
Secondly, it was funny how I saw JJ. The tempo is fast, ball is moving around from side to side, and then it hits JJ. He dribbles, stops, fake drives, and shoots a fade-away. JJ is JJ, no matter what team he’s on. He did hit some threes when he was open on catch and shoots, but ball movement generally stopped when he got the ball in the half-court. He’s just so used to that role that he’s not easily going to transition to anything else.
Of course, Wade, LeBron, and Dwight had an advantage in terms of finding the ball, and they were throwing it back and forth between the three of the a lot. They had that entire 2+ years worth of Olympic experience built up, so they were just falling back into that sort of game. The West didn’t really have anything like that, except when Deron Williams and Carmelo were on the floor together.
And I the only who thought Horf might outscore JJ? He did score before him, though JJ got a little hot after that. Would have been awesome to see Horf outscore JJ off the bench though. Also, my recording unfortunately lost most of the fourth quarter, so I didn’t get to see Horf get back in during the second half. It looks like he didn’t really do much.
Was there any mention of the previous high attendance for an NBA game? It was a Bulls game in Atlanta, back when the Hawks were playing the Georgia Dome before Phillips opened. I was at that game-everyone thought it would be their last chance to see MJ.
I had some really crappy seats.
Interesting Note for The Game.
Going over the Box Score, +/- (Which reflects how well a team does when a particular player is one the floor, not the player’s personal stats).
I noticed that the MVP (Wade) was -2 despite his impressive stat line (that was painful to type)
Lebron was best at +14 (he also played the most minutes at 32:28)
The second best was Joe Johnson at +10 and he was only played 18 mins
Three more players were at +6, including Al who played only 14:19 (however Howard was also at +6 and saw the most minutes at center)
It appears that the West actually made better use of it’s players, with more evenly distributed minutes and most of it’s production coming with the bench playing, despite Nowitzki (-8) and Mellow (-11) both posting 20+ points as starters.
I think that the East simply had the better roster, and with better coaching descisions, this one would not have been close at the end.
