Around SBN: Full Coverage Of New York's Victory Celebration

Atlanta could be set for a letdown. They clearly improved last season, but just aren't ready to take the next step. The addition of Jamal Crawford (who has never made the Playoffs in nine seasons, by the way) could make things easier on Joe Johnson, or it could create a chemistry problem. And they're still playing Al Horford at center.

The Hawks come in at number five on the list of teams most likely to go from the playoffs to the lottery.

I struggle to see how playing Al Horford at center and earning the fourth seed will now somehow be the reason the team will not make the playoffs but whatever.

At least we were 5th

in all seriousness, we always get slept on so it’s no biggie. Just gives us reason to play the “nobody believed in us” card.

Eh...

they also say it’s essentially for lack of other options so who cares.

Thinking out loud on the Rockets situation, there doesn’t appear to be a Tim Duncan in the 2010 draft, but I wonder if they really falter this year, get a healthy Yao back next year, and can combine him with a high lottery pick and make a quick rebound back to championship contention like the Spurs did landing Duncan and getting back David Robinson after a year missed due to injury.

Ridiculous.

This might make some sense if the teams behind the Hawks made great strides, but unless Miami gets Odom or Boozer, the only teams back there who will move up much look like MAYBE the Wizards and Bulls.

The bottom line is that the status-quo Hawks are still better than most of the mediocrity that is the Eastern Conference unless there are some unforseen and impossible to predict changes, like injuries or that John Kuester is an amazing coach who can get Villanueva and Gordon to give-a-rat’s on the defensive end (you all have talked about Bibby being bad, well, Villanueva might be one of the worst defenders I have personally ever seen).

It’s a slow time of year, and peeps got to be writin’ stuff nonetheless.

They still have Al Horford playing center

Which means we’re in better shape than a lot of other teams, who don’t know who either don’t know their center is or can’t count on him to have an advantageous match-up on either side of the court.

If the Hawks are healthy, I really can’t see them missing the playoffs. For that to happen you’d have to have not just Miami but Philly, Detroit, Chicago, and one of last year’s non-playoff teams finishing with more wins than Atlanta. I could see the Hawks getting a worse seed than 4th but 9th or worse? Not seeing it.
