If a certain number of tickets can't be sold, Grinstead said teams prefer to give them away -- or "comp" them -- in the hopes that those fans will show up and spend money on food, souvenirs and parking. But too many comp tickets can also mean lost revenues. Three teams shared the dubious honor of handing out an average of more than 5,000 free tickets per game last season: the Hawks (5,616), Nets (5,213) and Timberwolves (5,205).
A great article to understand why the salary cap is going down.
5000 free tickets a game?!? Are you required to wear a Kobe jersey if you use them? Because that would explain the Lakers game.

It's Hard
2 even consider taking a team away from a city this big that has so much going for itself, but I sometimes think the city of Atlanta does not deserve a team.

After reading the article
Its not as bad as you would think. We were one of the top 3 worst teams in gate revenue sales but not even in the tope 5 in worst actual attendance. That shows that our tickets are cheap compared to most teams. Thank you Spirit. I actually like the fact that we give away that many tickets. Its shows we have an ownership worried about an actual home court advantage. Thank you Spirit.
don’t forget that this town is just now coming around to the hawks being a legit team and not a laughing stock. Last season was are first winning season in god knows how long. Also, don’t forget about the dumbass idea of having all these 7 pm starts with atl traffic and no one but Drew lives within 20 minutes of The Arena. The NBA needs to move our start times to either 7:30 or 8 during the weekdays.
Finally, whenever I hear anyone complain about our attendance, the first question I ask is how many games they went to themselves. I went to 40. If your answer is less than 5, don’t complain, get off your ass and get to the arena, even if you are late.
