Went to a D

The draft grade overall is a D for me. How can you not go after Blair. Not even a guarantee situation, what do u have to lose. A future 2. That’s garbage. He is back to Sund again.

Teague is ok considering the options at 19

B+ for Teague. The better PGs were off the board by the time the 19th pick came around, so he’s what was available. I’m glad they didn’t pick some project big man like Mullens. The Hawks could have been more aggressive and moved up to get a better PG, but I can understand their staying put and planning to either re-sign Bibby or get some other veteran by free agency or trade. Unless ownership decides not to spend any money to get a better PG, Teague figures to be used about the same as Acie.

Usage

If he gets used about the same as Acie, Woody should be fired before Jan.

If Woody wasn’t fired for his handling of Acie, I don’t see him being fired for not playing Teague. I hope I’m wrong and Teague gets regular minutes as a backup PG, but Woody’s track record on young PGs is not encouraging.

of course

Woody isn’t going to get fired. The ASG is a bunch of money grubbing tools who wouldn’t want to spend the money to buy him out plus pay for a new coach at the same time. ‘Should be’ and ‘will be’ are clearly two different things.

I'm curious

If it turns out that Teague sucks, do you think Woody has to play him 20 minutes a game anyway to prove to you that he will play a young guard?

Hahahaha

Woody has already proven he has no interest in playing rookies when he has a choice. Plus, he would have to at least give them some amount of consistent minutes in order for any true evaluation of their game-time abilities to take place. Of course I don’t think he needs to play a rookie 20 minutes a game, but he could have played Acie with the first team more often during his rookie year over Anthony Johnson, etc.

I think your question answers itself. If Teague sucks then he shouldn’t play. But I find it interesting that you automatically jump to the player being bad. You talk a lot about “maybe he sucked in practice”, but anyone who’s ever played any organized sports knows that practice and the game are two completely different things. Do you honestly believe that Woodson would let Acie practice with the first team? I’m betting he was instantly relegated to the kiddie court with the rest of our unused bench players because in his mind they aren’t important, regardless of the qwuality of their skill.

Woodson is a horrible coach. He makes horrible decisions in every aspect of the game, and in every sense of the word ‘coach’. He can’t adjust from year-to-year, game-togame, or even series-to-series. He says he does many things where no evidence of those things occuring exists. He should have been fired long ago.

Either way, Acie is gone so there’s no point arguing over what should have/have not have happened. All I can hope for is that Teague doesn’t befall the same circumstances that Acie did, and by Woodson’s latest comments, I have no faith in that happening.

Look i think Woodson is probably an average coach. However that makes him the best coach we’ve had since Lenny Wilkins (beating out the immortal Lon Kruger, and Terry Stotts.)

I think he has a plan even if it’s not the best plan, and he gets his players to execute it. That in itself is accomplishing more than half the coaches in the NBA. Does that make him a great coach? Of course not. We could do better sure, but we could also do alot worse.

I think The Atlanta Hawks Did Great All things Considered; They Picked Up....

I think the Atlanta Hawks did Great, Both in trade and draft.
Not only did they pick up a man who averaged 19.7 points 15-25th in the NBA as well as over 4.0 ast in 54 games; but picked up a guard who was I think around 35th in points in NCAA with Great FG% and 3Pt%.
