Hawks draft night open thread

Come one, come all. To vent and to freak out. To laud praise and cry disaster. After all, it is freaking draft day! The sky could both simultaneously fall and break into the heavens at the very same moment. Is there anything better?

Starting around 7 pm. I will be in the comments with a stream of conscious of where the Hawks may go and how I feel Mike Woodson will mess it up upon arriving there. Feel free to join me.

Jamal Crawford talk, links to rumors, and preposterous  trade talk is all welcome.

Go Hawks!

vince carter rumored to Orlando

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4287197

that would be great for the Hawks. the less shots dwight howard gets the better imo.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

minus that dagger, game winner

vince hit against the hawks this year. i think i cried after that one.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah i guess they are gonna let Turkoglu walk too. Should be interesting. I don’t know how much better this makes them though

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

apparently vince to the magic is a done deal

hedo not going to be resigned. i am kind of shocked.

plus, i loved courtney lee.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

O trying to win now

The Magic are trying to win it right now. Replace Lee with Carter and they win that game 2 in LA. Lee was a nice player, but VC makes that shot 10x out of 10. Great move for the O.

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

knowing turk is probably gone

i don’t see how vince is going to put them over the top. and if he doesn’t all their eggs will be in aging, part time trying wing player.

tempting to get into Amare talks

They are taking offers for Amare. Its tempting to make an offer for him eventhough he might/will leave for NY at the end of the year. But a Bibby, Joe, Marvin/Smoove, Horford, Amare line up is nasty….and could challenge the Cavs

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 5:15 PM EDT reply actions

Amare or Bosh would be nice but if they have a dream of playing for the Knicks, oh well

First off, unless the Knicks get Lebron or D-Wade next summer they will not be as good as the Hawks anytime soon. Second, I have a funny feeling we are going to pick someone that falls like maybe: Brandon Jennings, James Johnson, or Dejuain Blair. If Jennings, Johnson, and Dejuain Blair and Jeff Teague are all there I would take James Johnson.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

Lee’s going to be a solid player. Rod Thorn’s building a nice nucleus up there. Devin Harris and Courtney Lee, Brook Lopez. Nice little team.

And now they’ll have a ton of cap space in 2010, and a minority owner who happens to be LeBron’s mentor, and a new Brooklyn arena coming open in a few years.

Conspiracy theories on this one anyone?

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 6:29 PM EDT reply actions

still a long way to go with the nets

but i love the trade for them. a big star in 2010 and they are rocking no doubt.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Boy, no kidding. But can poor Rafer Alston never get a starting gig?

by rbubp on Jun 25, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

question

where would jamal crawford go in this draft?

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 6:52 PM EDT reply actions

The suits

So far, decent suits from the green room kids. Nothing Joakim Noah-esque yet.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

there needs to be a minimum

of 9 shots of stephen curry’s mom tonight.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:27 PM EDT reply actions

ok it is offical

i am rooting for the hawks to somehow land ty lawson.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

David Stern...

Flustered by the fans. That’s new. I was half waiting for a “YOU SHUT THE HELL UP. I’M THE COMMISH!”

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

That would have been epic. He should have followed up with “Don’t even start, or I’ll have the Spurs back in the NBA Finals this year, jackass.”

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Im for Value

Whoever drops unexpectedly get him.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 7:37 PM EDT reply actions

oh well if he is a nice kid

then you should def. draft him number one.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:41 PM EDT reply actions

How long...

Until the ACL explodes? Six months? A year? Two years?

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:43 PM EDT reply actions

it is almost like you can see it on his face

kind of like, “do I at least get to choose which one?”

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

ahh the clippers

one of the few teams hawks fans can mock….

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

apparently with that shirt

Oklahoma is blake’s second favorite team behind kansas state shirt.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:44 PM EDT reply actions

I'm in full on man crush

With Jeff Van Gundy. Can we hire this guy straight off the draft room floor and swap him for Mike Woodson?

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

Grizz have a nice young squad

don’t listen to Van Gundy they are young but they need some beef too

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

marc gasol

is one big dude. he looks like the wrestler mick foley

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Samuel Dalembert...

Your doppelganger has been drafted. Maybe one day Billy King will give you a similarly ridiculous contract. Let’s hope you never have to play against DeJuan Blair ever again.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

samuel

would not even come visit atl that free agent year. he has been dead to me since then.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously...

How often do centers with zero offensive game become successful in the NBA?

I don’t get why you draft someone this high to just block shots.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:49 PM EDT reply actions

agreed

especially when memphis was not a shot blocker away from being legit.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

wow

somewhere westbrook is screaming “that’s right!”

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

God...

Sam Presti is a genius. Beautiful misdirection leading into this draft. Chaos will soon begin in this thing.

Though I think Harden will suck.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

Good Pick

why flash to Rubio….media folks always looking drama

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

Wow...

I love Ricky’s broken English. How long before someone on the team nicknames’ him Speedy Gonzalez?

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

About 20 minutes into the first mandatory workout.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

The T-Wolves should just keep all 4 of their 1st round picks.

They are seriously lacking talent. Maybe they roll the dice on Curry.

by KC Ryan on Jun 25, 2009 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

What !!!!!!!

They are trading one of those guys

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

how does espn even talk like these guys are staying together

you don’t draft back to back point guards in the top ten so you can full court press.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

they know some GM who really wanted him

and they are going to package him for another player

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

Here’s what just happened-someone was deep in discussions to trade up to the pick to grab Flynn, but time was running out before the trade was finalized. Minnesota selected him in order to continue negotiating.

Of course, they wasted all their negotiating power in doing so. It’s not like they can just say “Oh yeah, we’ll just keep both these guys.” Only Memphis would do that.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

Have to agree with you guys.

Maybe the ESPN guys were told not to speculate on trades?

by KC Ryan on Jun 25, 2009 8:13 PM EDT reply actions

THAT GAME WAS AWESOME

I fell asleep twice I was so tired

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 8:13 PM EDT reply actions

well minesotta

overlooked the first two months of the season for one.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

have i mentioned i love curry

that said i hope golden state does not draft him.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

Poor Stephen Curry

Wow. He just looks like someone crapped in his Corn Flakes.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:16 PM EDT reply actions

why do you care? I didn’t know you liked the knicks

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Watching Stephen Curry in that D’Antoni offense would have been fun.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

LMFAO at the Knicks

That’ll teach em to be New York

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:17 PM EDT reply actions

there needs to be a trade in the works

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

he’s replacing Crawford

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:20 PM EDT reply actions

I thought

The general consensus was the Warriors needed another PF, not a back court player.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:21 PM EDT reply actions

One or two very excited females screaming, then a strong chorus of boos following that selection.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

Its like the Knicks and Warriors

Just need to swap these guys. Warriors need a banger down low. Knicks need Curry.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

MSG can get swallowed up in an earthquake while the Knicks are playing the Celtics, and i would dance a little jig

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

btw

where are the shots of stephen’s mom

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:23 PM EDT reply actions

She was

In the background of the Dell Curry interview. Slammin’.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:23 PM EDT reply actions

Like that

PHX is my adopted team followed them closely during the dark yrs of Hawks ball

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

alright hawks fans

has the draft so far changed who you think the hawks are taking?

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

If Jrue Holiday slips past Milwaukee, Atlanta needs to be selling Childress’ rights to move up for him.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m a hansbrough guy though, at least you know he’s gonna try

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:28 PM EDT reply actions

"giving the best health care i can give them"

might be the best thing i have ever heard a newly drafted player say.

well done sir.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

And people wonder why he left school early….

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, undersized and didn’t blow away inferior college competition.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

You know what i just decided? Skrew Bibby and Zaza, We need to go for

RAMONE SESSIONS, AND DAVID LEE BABY!!!

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve got a man crush on Ramon Sessions.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

From Compton to Beerandsuasageville ouch

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

more importanly this brings RAMONE SESSIONS one step closer to the Hawks

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:35 PM EDT reply actions

It’s Milwakee, you know they are gonna be dumb and sign Villinuava instead

by thirdfALCON on Jun 25, 2009 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s Hansbrough or Gerald Henderson here.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

good call.

they have two guys named gerald. that makes me happy.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I almost called him Gerald Williams. I wish there WAS a Gerald Williams so they could take him and have three Geralds.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Poor Sean May.

I sold him a computer on campus a few years back. Nice guy.

nobody ahead of us needs a PG

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

Jrue Holiday, DeJuan Blair, and Ty Lawson all still on the board. Awesome.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

Would LOVE Holiday to make it. Hawks really need to be on the phone talking about moving up for him.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

fyi tyler

no longer called a “program.”

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

Phoenix

Lawson should go here.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:56 PM EDT reply actions

Will Phoenix sell the pick?

Yet again?

Nope. Earl Clark, who apparently felt like not showing up.

by Duff_Man on Jun 25, 2009 8:56 PM EDT reply actions

Nope

He just showed up late.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

David Stern just smashed something!

Jennings advertising for overseas! AWESOME!!!!

by Duff_Man on Jun 25, 2009 8:59 PM EDT reply actions

Dear God....

Tell Rick Sund BJ Mullens has already been drafted.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

Daye is a softie.

My Sixer fan buddy just texted me: “THANK GOD THEY TOOK DAYE”

by Duff_Man on Jun 25, 2009 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

Why take Daye

When there’s more NBA ready guys available?

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

James Johnson should be the Pick

James Johnson is better than Marvin Williams right now. This should be the pick if he is there.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

Watched him a bunch in the ACC this year

Guy has bust written all over him. We have enough players without any basketball IQ.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I just know this is gonna be BJ Mullins...

Sorry guys, it just makes no sense, so it’ll make perfect sense to the Hawks…

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.

Elayne Boosler

Damnit, i’ve been out of beer for a week and out of money for longer. No drink here.

Thank God

Johnson is gone.

Maynor would be intriguing, but he reminds me too much of Law.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

Just a warning..

They pick Mullens, I’m kicking a puppy. Be warned Sund.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

I love Lawson.

Completely under-rated in this draft.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

Lawson or Teague Im Great

Either but pass on Maynor. He good be Billups or he could be Acie.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

Ty or Patty

Quickest players in this draft. Perfect for my run around in circles scheme in 2k

by supraman on Jun 25, 2009 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

agreed

blair and lawson and i will drink because i am happy.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

We will gooooo hiiiiiiigher....

I heard better notes when my dog was hit by a car.

by Duff_Man on Jun 25, 2009 9:16 PM EDT reply actions

Even Teague is meh. I hope Lawson is there.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

WTF?????

Who drafts three points guards in a draft.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

Blair isn't Hortford

Phuck Minnessotta they are stupid ass hell.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

Excuse me

I’m going to slam my dick in a sliding glass door.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

okay is the Wolves GM sleeping???

and the his hand is resting on PG on the scout page so the intern just keeps telling them take a PG

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

Lawson is almost certainly going to Denver. Just wait.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

Its like the Wolves draft is...

Being done on auto-draft for a fantasy basketball site.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

Crap...

Lawson going to the Nuggets.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

Teague so no way we re-sign Flip

Teague, Crawford, and Flip are all the same. This is a C+ pick as of now.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

There's no way Flip was going to replicate his play from last year.

Both Bibby and Flip had career years. Had to improve those guys somehow.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

best PG left

I wouldhave taken a chance with maynor too

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

Teague, bleh

Could have taken Blair, dealt Childress’ rights to New Orleans for the 21st pick, and taken Teague there.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

Well

It ain’t as if his philosophy has led to a good defensive team.

by jrauch on Jun 25, 2009 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

It's because he only talks about defense.

Obviously he doesn’t give a sh*t about it.

by rbubp on Jun 25, 2009 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

these last two moves

are an indictment on mike woodson

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Did we?

Who says Teague’s fate will be different form Acie’s or Salim’s?

by rbubp on Jun 25, 2009 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I meant with Crawford/Speedy becoming final.

Teague will be OK. I still have faith in Acie…will be interesting to watch him under Nellie.

by Duff_Man on Jun 25, 2009 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

he's got to play Teague

we can’t keep wasting draft picks

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Chicago or Portland

One of these two will deal with us to get Blair. I just know it Chicago has already picked and they have cap situations. They need to re-sign Gordon they dont want this guaranteed contract, 2 in the 1st round, nope.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:32 PM EDT reply actions

he tore his ACL's in HS

had surgery
and he’s overweight…..one collision with D Howard away from being on the inactive list

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

We should happen to him

If he falls to Chicago we should be able to get him.

by Hawks-Semi Fan on Jun 25, 2009 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

Seriously, how come Childress’ rights haven’t been dealt to anyone yet? This is going to be the best night to get a return on them.

by Bronn on Jun 25, 2009 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

Sam young better choice

his teamate Sam Young is a better pick

by Cmart34 on Jun 25, 2009 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

hey yall head to the second draft thread for the 2nd round

and possible hawks trades.

and grade the hawks first pick on the way there.

thanks for joining so far.

by hawksdawgs on Jun 25, 2009 9:39 PM EDT reply actions
