So there you have it. Jeff Teague is the early leader in the clubhouse. He also had not hired an agent leaving open the possibility that he will return to school. Of this far from comprehensive list, only Eric Maynor is a senior.

Thoughts, other mock drafts, hit up the comments.

Go Hawks!

I want no part of BJ Mullens nor Budinger

Mullens is a long-term project for a team that needs to be trying to make a run at the East Conference Finals and NBA Championship level within the next 3 to 5 years. Budinger is not going to be anywhere near the best small forward available when the Hawks pick. Sam Young is a lot better on defense, rebounding, and toughness. Budinger at his best will give you like 70% of what Wally Sczerbiak gave at his peak. Sam Young is going to be just as good as Loul Deng if given the chance.

I’m all for Maynor or Teague as long as Flynn is long gone. I would also take Lawson over Teague if both are there simply because Lawson is a pure point.

Agreed

Mullens should stay in college and hone his game. He is too raw and underdeveloped and we don’t need that. There is so little talent at the center position in this draft that I think we need to steer clear of it until next year. If we absolutely have to have a true 5 this year, go after someone in the league already.

As for the PG, I like Teague and wouldn’t mind if that’s what is available, but I think Flynn is a better PG as a whole.

Great

At least Acie will have someone new to talk with about a lack of playing time/trust from the head coach. Woody is not going to develop the player they draft so I find myself not caring who that player turns out to be.

Meh...

Not too excited about this draft class… Neither am I excited about our predicted picks… BJ Mullens looks good, but as a rookie…. Not really convinced that he’s ready. I’m with the Semi-Fan up there… Seems like a long-term project to me…

IMO, we need some fixes immediately.

Since a classic point guard doesn’t fit into Woody’s “offense”, why not go for the best shooting guard available instead? Shooting is Bibby’s main strength anyway, so if you could replace him with an equally good shooting guard who can defend a bit better than Mike you’d be in good shape. Plus it would give you more options next year should the Hawks decide not to re-sign Joe or if they trade him at the deadline during the season.

If the Hawks are going to win, they need to find a solid center to matchup with the likes of Howard, Ilgauskas, and Perkins. Further picking up a guy like Mullens who can rotate with Zaza is his first year, the start in year 2 is a great move. Then pick up Toney Douglas round 2 to fit the PG/SG role. Toney has 4 years of college experience and shouldered the load for the Noles last year. He’s ready to step in and make an immediate impact, is a defensive specialist, and a proven leader.

What reason is there to think a non-elite rookie center will get any playing time under Mike Woodson?

by redwards95 on May 22, 2009 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Ty Lawson NC, Eric Maynor PG VCU; Nick Calenthes PG Fla, David Holston Chic St, Johnny Flynn Syracuse, Ben Woodside N Dakota St., Brandon Ewing Wyoming, Tyrese Rice Boston College, Stephen Curry Davidson Are some of best guards in NCAA at least they can Score and dish off assists well.
Forwards Tyler Hansborough, Ahmad Nivens,Lester Hudson,Blake Griffen are Top players.
Jermaine Taylor ,Jodie Meeks G has played well in College.

put his name in the hat

Jrue Holiday. Athletic with size, great shooter, excellent dribbler, and quick. He is does like to shoot but he can play PG….sort of like Curry. I would rather have Jrue than Flynn or Lawson because of his size. we need that on D

Jrue Holiday

will be long gone by our pick. So will Maynor and Flynn. My vote is for Lawson, though Teague would be good, as well.

Some Mock Drafts have us taking Teague

HoopsHype mock draft has us taking Teague at 19 but Holiday goes at 18. If somethings change Holiday might be there, but i don’t think Lawson will be available.

I've been wrestling with this, but...

I think we should try and convince J Chill to rejoin the team, draft BJ Mullins to develop in the 1st round, and Toney Douglas in the second. I could see a 2 deep of..

C Mullins, Zaza Pachulia
PF Al Horford, Josh Smith
SF Marvin Williams, Mo Evans
SG Joe Johnson, Josh Childress
PG Toney Douglas, Flip Murray

Bibby needs to go, becase he’ll be to expensive to play off the bench, and he’s a defensive liability. This also gets us set for the 10-11 season, and J Chill taking over for Joe Johnson.

Wow!

Im glad some of you guys aren’t anywhere near the WarRoom. Josh Childress is not a starting 2 guard. Mullins was pure garbage as a freshman in college. He is only gonna get drafted off of potential and Toney Douglas is not a point guard. Drafting guys off of potential alone gets you a bunch of Marvin Williams, if you are lucky. Drafting guys and trying to change their position, gets you a bunch of tweeners and 15 win seasons. You guys seam so anxious to go back to the sellars.

Toney Douglas is Mike Bibby with better defense...

I getting nervous

I keep seeing different projections for that 19th pick. It is such a guessing game. I like Maynor but really only saw him play in the Tournament. This is a crucial year for this team in the draft. We have to get it right. It starts before the draft. Is this team going to commit to keeping Acie YES or NO. Then go from there. If yes then we have some wiggle room on picking a PG. If we get Maynor or Lawson and he turns out to be average we will be okay. But if there is No commitment to Acie, then this pick will eventually be our “guy” after Bibby. I don’t see anybody who would be available at the 19th pick that I would say is better is a better college player than Acie.
NBA draft.net has the Hawks taking Hansborough at 19….duh ? why
Jrue holiday goes at 24 and lawson at 22…. i hope this is not right
