Game Preview:

I apologize for never getting past the "loser dots" last game. I could not help but feel a game recap would simply make a game four post redundant. The last thing I would want is for my Mike Woodson rants to become boring and repetitive. And for those who would say I am far beyond too late in avoiding that trap, well, just be glad they will now not occur in back to back games.

But amidst all this Mike Woodson hate and blowout losses, do you want to know a secret?

I think the Hawks are going to win tonight.

Don't take it as a rallying cry or anything. If I am correct, I can confidently predict the Cavs will win game five as well. But as I reflect on tonight's game, I am struggling to find where the Cavs will be motivated for tonight's game. They are looking at another extended layoff if they win. They could have the pleasure of closing out at home if they lose. They have little reason to take the Hawks seriously at this point. It all adds up.

Ok fine, it is no slam dunk. If the Hawks have shown anything this series, it is that I am risking a bit of embarrassment even joking about them winning, but I think it will happen. I think the team has a little pride left in them. Shoot, as a fan, I have a little pride left at least.

So I am heading down to the arena to watch it live. I look forward to coming back to find the comment section full of ridicule at my belief in the team or full of disdain that I jinxed this team into winning and thus saving Woodson's job.

Either way, I am going to yell a lot tonight for our team. You should do the same. It is what good fans do.

Go Hawks!

Yes,

Tonight is the night … too bad we couldn’t see this series with a relatively healthy team, could have been interesting.

Charles Barkley has a plan to revolutionize the NBA

“I believe you should be allowed to go up into the stands and grab one fan a game and beat the hell out of them.”

Brilliant. NBA Marketing needs to get on board with this ASAP. Think how much more entertainment value you’d get from this. Sold!

I'd have more confidence in Woodson if every third quarter didn't start like this.

Things like “smart basketball” and “energy” and “effort” should have been a part of the gameplan.

by Bronn on May 11, 2009 8:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I mean, I guess certain things should be implied

“Play smart” “Stay in control” “Don’t show up drunk”

But it’s a give and take with the players sometimes.

by Bronn on May 11, 2009 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This run is the sort of thing that would never happen on the road

Cavs come out start of the third quarter, make a little run, and the Hawks aren’t hitting shots. On the road, they get stupid, and the game quickly gets out of hand, and all the Cavs starters are sitting for the 4th quarter. At home, at least, they show a little counter-punch to get back in it.

Keep in mind

80% of the time, if Flip the gets the ball in that situation, he takes a shot from half court with 2 seconds left on the clock. So don’t go praising him too much because he’s usually horrible in those end-of-quarter possessions.

Anyone else think that was the dumbest time-out in the long history of timeouts?

Against this Cleveland defense, where baskets are scarce, you had Mo Williams perched on top of the scorers table, and essentially out of the play. Why don’t you then try to get a quick basket, 5 on 4, rather than call a timeout there?

Idiotic, it seemed to me.

by Bronn on May 11, 2009 9:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

What I'll never understand

LeBron James should never catch the ball “wide open.” That was crazy. How do you fail to guard that man, regardless of where he is?

Time to say

Good season, fire the coach, get a new bench.

by Bronn on May 11, 2009 9:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

We've improved, we have allot more experience in the post season

Mike Woodson should be fired, he probably won’t be.
We need a Center.
There’s allot of work to do in the off season. Most of which should be done by Josh Smith, shoot 300 three-pointers a day… You like em so much? Get good at them.
We need a real PG… Sorry Bibbs, you were good in the playoffs, but not good enough…
Joe, please get hype.
Mike Woodson, since you probably aren’t gonna get fired… Stop drinking and motivate the team. Get someone to give you the tape of Mike Brown on the bench.

Hawks, you did good… I’m not disappointed.
