Hawks Injury Report: Marvin Williams and some dude named Craig. Acie Law has a hurt back but probably will not play regardless.

Spurs Injury Report: Manu might make his return against the Hawks tonight...as if I could dislike him more.

Blogging With the Enemy: Pounding the Rock, 48 Minutes of Hell

Predicted bane of the Hawks existence: Tony Parker

Game Preview:

Comparing Mike Bibby's defense to Al Horford's defense is a little like placing 24 ounce Sweetwater from Gorins in the CNN center next to glass of three day old O'Douls. And Al Horford is not an exceptional defender.

With that said here are the keys to the game.

  1. Make Tim Duncan beat you not Tony Parker. Mostly because I know for a fact Tony Parker can beat the Hawks.
  2. If Manu is back, do not give provide a flashlight so he can find his rhythm. Flashlight is a clever different way of saying don't put him on the line.
  3. Josh Smith meet Matt Bonner. Matt Bonner meet Josh Smith.

A big project is keeping me away from the arena, and this game is going to keep me away from my project. See you in the game thread. Be ready for some hot Flip!

Go Hawks!

i am predicting

my frustration level over Woody’s management of Al Horford’s fouls tonight will be roughly 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

Tonight is one of those games

Where I have to sit on the edge of the coffee table instead of on the couch.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 6:32 PM EDT reply actions

ODouls isn't great

But I can’t believe you chose Sweetwater as the ideal beer. I can’t stand the stuff.

As I say this, I’ve just bought a 12 pack of PBR.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 6:34 PM EDT reply actions

I kicked my keg of Sly Fox Weisse...

…so now I have to drink the rum I have left. Hopefully, I won’t need all of it.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Speaking of which

I really hope this isn’t the game where the Hawks ruin beer. If you jinxed it while writing your Cavaliers’ review, I’m going to be really upset.

The Hawks might ruin my night like this guy:

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions

if someone has the ability to ruin beer

that is too great a power to be able to jinx someone into having.

or at least the is by defense.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions

and i love pbr.

i buy six packs at the “grocery store” by house and by six packs i mean 12 packs that have been sawed into six packs.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I've heard of sawed-off 12 gauges

but I think I now prefer sawed-off 12 packs.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

i either forgot

or never knew flip murray was on his way to play in russia before the hawks grabbed him.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 6:56 PM EDT reply actions

Hey, the Braves are on too!

That officially turns tonight from a 2 beer into a 3 beer night.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

Great...JJ hurt

Yikes. I hope he can walk that off.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

prediction

if the hawks do not score a basket, bronn drinks the whole 12 pack.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

No such thing as a heat check

If you make the shot. Even if you’re Michael Finley.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:19 PM EDT reply actions

mo eavens

doing his best mario west.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:19 PM EDT reply actions

Imagine if Josh Smith tried to emulate Mario West

He’d be the best Mario ever.

Think about it-Mario attacks the boards no matter how good the shot looks. He charges in to attempt to rebound made dunks.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

UGH

If Tony Parker has that shot going tonight, it’s going to be long.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:22 PM EDT reply actions

Heat check by Tony PArker?

As I type, Parker just made a layup.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

wow

josh may implode early tonight.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

It's looking that way.

He REALLY needs to get something to go to end his frustrations. That missed dunk could be a killer for him.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Oooh...

that did look a little “Mario West”. And then again on the other end…

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

nique

there is no such thing as a tough shot for flip murray.

there are just missed shots.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:29 PM EDT reply actions

all these baskets by flip

are hurting his second quarter stats.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

i used to think zaza either looked really good on offense

or traveled.

but i am slowly starting to realize he just travels every time.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:43 PM EDT reply actions

someone start recording josh smith

so we have a clear definition of “pressing” for the rest of time.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:49 PM EDT reply actions

roger mason must not know

how much i detest the reggie miller leg kick.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:52 PM EDT reply actions

incredible by mario!

and no way parker was going to do anything but make a lay up the next time down.

i dont know which i am more impressed by.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Mario rules

Although I am not sure why there was no slam. Popp might have taken a t.o. after a crowd igniting dunk.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

agreed

maybe the josh smith miss scared him.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, this game is officially scaring me.

Hawks really need to get it going in the third. Keeping Flip out so long was a mistake IMO.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

anytime one player is killing you

you know that one player is killing you.

and he keeps killing you.

then you are in scary land.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

where is bronn

to tell me how right i was about “the bane of the hawks existence”?

could be nabbing my second ever correct one.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

Looking good so far

Sometimes I alternate between watching in the room with the computer, and watching in the room with the big TV.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

So you compared Bibby and Horford's defense in this preview

And it turns out, I don’t want EITHER of them guarding Tony Parker.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

i did slightly miscalculate

mike woodson’s dedication to switching.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I just had a 12 year old moment

When Bob said “"He’s looking to feed Drew Gooden,” I seriously pictured Tony Parker with a spoon making airplane noises.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

i would not be surprised

if drew gooden would be really into it.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions

STOP SWITCHING!

horford cannot guard parker.

it is decided. the chapter has been written. the judge has decided.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

agreed

maybe that is why woody keeps having horford guard tony.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Woodson

is getting totally outclassed. This is not a player problem, it’s a horrifically bad scheme problem,

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

I'm pretty sure

That Zaza was just tripped by Josh Smith, resulting in a sympathy foul call on Kurt Thomas.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

I am amazed.

I am amazed that he is so stupid that he lets it keep happening.

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 8:47 PM EDT reply actions

Nique just said it

No Duncan, no Ginobili, just off a back-to-back, and they are still leading.

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

And shooting 60%.

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 8:49 PM EDT reply actions

Hot Flip: +8

Smelly Zaza: +11

Crazy Mario: +1

Hooray for the Hawks’ bench!

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:50 PM EDT reply actions

some people will think josh's fts will point to his aggresiveness

without knowing that Pop told his team to foul him every time he has the ball.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Hack-a-Josh

Only, we don’t get the mind-boggling dominance of Shaq to compensate for it.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Poppovich

sporting the old cleaned up hippie look.

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

I can't believe it's tied

with Josh Smith playing like Eeyore

by Buzzsaw on Mar 25, 2009 8:54 PM EDT reply actions

+1

For the best Winnie the Pooh reference ever.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

nique we get it

the hawks should be leading this game.

stop making us feel worse.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

Flip

must never, ever set his feet. EVER!

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

We are obligated

to take bad shots, apparently.

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

Miami is up 75-74 in Indianapolis

for those concerned about the playoff race.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

josh smith cause he absolutely quits after

by ejamma25 on Mar 25, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

honestly, how does he not catch Matt Bonner? I think I could catch Bonner after missing a steal

by ejamma25 on Mar 25, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Mario generally enjoys success when gambling

Flip Murray likewise gambles a lot on defense, without it hurting his effectiveness very much.

Josh Smith has to be the winner, here.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I think this game is a loss.

We just can’t get anything going it seems like.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe it's time to put in Randolph Morris

His grim visage will shatter Tony Parker’s kharma.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 9:10 PM EDT reply actions

A MISS

Our Blazer’s fan must have made that Parker Voodoo doll….

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 9:10 PM EDT reply actions

he still has 13 boards at least he has something else to offer

by ejamma25 on Mar 25, 2009 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Not riding Flip

killed them. He sat too much.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

16/22 for tony

lets get that joe add back up pronto.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 9:14 PM EDT reply actions

JJ made it to 30

But it’s being overshadowed by the fact that we can’t slow down Parker.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

joe with one of the quitest 30 you will see

i guess that happens when a player on the other team literally can’t be stopped

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

Who came back from 10 down with a minute to go against the Magic. Sigh.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't remember that game

I do remember a game where a Hawks’ bench player hit like 6 threes in the fourth quarter (I think it was Henry James) to lead a comeback win.

That’s been a long time ago. I miss that team.

by Bronn on Mar 25, 2009 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

i looked

its available for a price.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

ha

didn’t ask. woodson already makes me spend too much money on beer.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I think

he has probably saved me a lot of money the first few seasons he was here. I still went to games but the tickets cost nothing and no one was there

by acie4mvp on Mar 25, 2009 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

this banter has been too fun

to get me properly riled up about how bad the hawks played/game planned tonight.

by hawksdawgs on Mar 25, 2009 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

This has been insane

Not one bounce or call went our way. Just a sucky performance.

by Duff_Man on Mar 25, 2009 9:22 PM EDT reply actions

At least

we know that Josh can score when it (doesn’t) matter(s)

by acie4mvp on Mar 25, 2009 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

You can't have it both ways with those parentheses man.

It may not seem like a big deal, but it just took me 5 minutes to figure out why you wanted to add an ‘s’ to “matters” … thats 5 minutes I won’t get back. I’m fine with inserting words with parentheses and I’m fine with omitting words with parentheses, but I will not stand for inserting AND omitting words with parenthesis in the same sentence. Thanks.

"It's yet to be seen whether Tony Parker will cause any Hawk to cry"

Absolutely the best comment of the night.

A terrible performance on defense. I hope Woodson is embarassed.

by rbubp on Mar 25, 2009 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

bad night

That’s what I was afraid would happen. Tony Parker took over and the 4th quarter execution was poor. It’s hard to beat a smart, good team by going 1-on-1 on offense and not shutting off the lane on defense.
As an aside, I think there are still refs who believe the Hawks are still a 13-69 team and automatically make every close call against them down the stretch (case in point: the blocking foul on Josh Smith where Parker led with his shoulder). I dread seeing Bob Delaney and Bennett Salvatore at any Hawks game for that reason.
By the same token, Hawks just have to execute better on offense against these elite teams. I’m probably in the minority on this board because I don’t think it’s automatically a Woodson problem, but they sure become easier to defend when the defense knows that they don’t have to worry about a post-up game or the ball swinging from side-to-side.
