Game Preview:
It is always nice to put things in perspective. A few weeks ago Mark Cuban was ready to trade the whole team. The Mavericks have one more win the Hawks. I am sure it partly has to do with expectations and past history, but mostly, it is which way your team is falling. Is your team getting over the hump or falling back down the mountain?
Tonight's game might not have an honest to goodness small forward playing which for some reason excites me greatly.
Also of note, considering both Bibby and Kidd are past their prime, they are strikingly different players. It is no Rondo/Bibby juxtaposition, but the match up is still intriguing.
Keys to the game:
- Don't let Jason Terry get easy shots and settle into a groove.
- Continue to feed the post.
- Good help defense on Dirk.
- Someone new step up. Six game win streak has seen a steady dose of Joe and the front court. Flip, Mo, or Bibby need a good game.
After an intense week, I will be headed down to the highlight factory with an extended pit stop at Gorins before hand. For those watching from home, feel free to hit up the game thread for answers surrounding the mystery of Mo Evans, why Craig Claxton never wears a tie, or if it is possible to see Randolph smile in back to back games. As always, Nique-ism are always encouraged, if not required, to be noted.
Go Hawks!

the last time i saw Dirk live, he cussed the whole time.
here is rooting for a repeat performance. I love germans who cuss in english.
defense, defense
Add the Mavericks to the list of good Western Conference teams to bite the dust at the Highlight Factory. Even though it seemed like there were times in that game where the Hawks were never going to grab a rebound, the defense was damn good.
When you make a team shoot 31 3s — and the Mavs were settling for those shots because the Hawks wouldn’t let them get good ones — you’ve done a good night’s work. That’s how you can afford a long drought like the Hawks had in the fourth quarter.
Flip Murray had to be the player of the game, followed closely by Josh Smith and Al Horford. Going 7-0 on the homestand surprised me a bit, only because of the number of good teams that were in town.
I’ll have some thoughts on the Cleveland game Friday night.
since there is no recap up yet
drew, you lazy man.
i almost fell out of my chair while watching the game. with about 2 mins left in the game Nique said that the Mavs “Shot their wad.” I thought it was an interesting euphemism. I also could not believe he said that. Rathburn did not respond…
