Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Atlanta Hawks 80, Dallas Mavericks 75 or ugly is in the eye of the beholder

And this is why the Hawks need Joe Johnson. Whether they need him tomorrow, whether they need him as much as he thinks or Woodson thinks, whether they need him in four years, I have no idea. But damn did they need him tonight. Joe "freaking" Johnson took bad shots, he took good shots, and he made shots. He made THE shots. Hats off good sir. Hats off.

"I don't care how it gets done. Just get it done. Play angry. Play annoyed. Just freaking play for 48 minutes." That was the mantra in the preview. Well, it was ugly. It was gross. And it was a damn fine win.

It's ok, no need to thank me

Because I said the Hawks outgrew Joe Johnson is clearly the reason he took over this game

GREAT DAY FOR ATLANTA!

Georgia Tech wins ACC title in football, beats USC in basketball, Thrashers win, and the Hawks top it off with (what I’ll optimistically call) a defensive clinic. Great day!

BTW: why did Smooth only play 26 minutes? Foul trouble?

ACC Champ in football...

that’s good for what, 5th or 6th in the SEC East?

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 6, 2009 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

Oh yeah

Cause the SEC looked so good Saturday with Florida looking like a bunch of whipped dogs.

If that had happened in the ACC, everyone would be saying “well, that’s the ACC for ya!” but when it happens in the SEC people chalk it up to the SEC being so tough.

by axhfan on Dec 6, 2009 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

Huh?...

you do realize it was an SEC team in Alabama vs. Florida, like it was two teams that just lost to middle of the pack SEC teams competing for the ACC title. Considering South Carolina beat Clemson, and Kentucky beat Georgia which then beat Tech, the only team in the SEC East that wouldn’t have won the ACC is Vanderbilt.

Hey now

This isn’t the forum for this discussion, but come on Sanchez, using head-to-head results leads to bad circular logic and I figured you were smarter than that.

Just picking at a Tech fan...

with degrees from both the University of Georgia and University of South Carolina.

And no, I don’t seriously think GT would finish above only Vandy in the East, but that circular logic is there.

Lose ugly at home, win ugly on the road. I guess they cancel out.

Thank God we don't see Dallas again until February

I was driven the point of distraction with Nique’s repeated inability to pronounce Dirk’s name.

Pronunciation guide: no-VIT-ski (Hint: if it’s a German name, the “w” makes a “v” sound)

Alternate pronunciations do NOT include: no-whiskey, no-wink-see, no-wins-key, or Em-Vee-Pee.

by Bronn on Dec 6, 2009 11:57 AM EST reply actions

Good grief, thanks, Bronn.

Can we also get straight that the German “v” is pronounced like an “f”? So, here it is: Volkswagon is pronounced “folksvahgen.” Now you know how easy German is. Translation: “people car.”

No-VIT-ski. Not so tough that way!

Regarding basketball,

every time the Hawks play a game like this and win it irks me even more that they lose games like the Knicks and Pistons recently. When do these guys get it about playing hard every night? Do they WANT to play on the road in the playoffs, or what??

Current pace=56-26. Probably not good enough for second in the East.

by rbubp on Dec 6, 2009 12:49 PM EST reply actions

This is one of those things that you just have to accept if you're going to love the NBA

None of the teams give 100% every night. And when someone does, like the Rockets this year, It’s a defining characteristic of the team. The last good team that tried hard every night was Probably the 06-07 Mavericks. And we all know what happened there. so maybe there’s a reason for that.

by thirdfALCON on Dec 6, 2009 2:14 PM EST up reply actions

i guess the point I'm trying to make is that the top teams win most of those games.

Cleveland, what, 66-16 last year? Pretty much every year there are one or two teams that win 60+. It’s well understood that the NBA has about 20 too many games; the back-to-backs are utterly absurd. I just want the healthy version of the Hawks to figure out how to win every game they play against teams who have nearly twice as many losses as wins (or worse). So far their record against those teams (at the time they played) is only 5-3.

What Was our road record last year?

And what pace are we on now?
I like road wins, especially against top 5 west teams.
Go Hawks!

Josh Smith

Josh Smith is one of my favorite players. I need you to stop getting so upset when you don’t get the call. Just freaking play ball. You pissed me off when you got tossed from the game. You are too good to get upset when you get called just settle down and play and forget about the refs. You will continue to not get calls and become the bad boy like Rashim Wallace who was tossed and t’d up every game.
