Game Preview:

The Grizzlies are quickly becoming quite an average team. Which is great news for their fans. And for the Hawks, it means they can easily take a team like Boston, playing perfectly fine basketball, down to the wire. Play bad basketball, they will beat you, and enjoy beating you.

What they won't do is play defense. The team is currently 29th in the league. So if I see even one psedo jump shot from Josh Smith, I am going to throw an honest to goodness tantrum. Zach Randolph knows he can't guard him so combine that with the fact that he won't try to and Josh should have a big night. That is not even mentioning Joe Johnson outweighs OJ Mayo by 30 lbs. No joke. Last year, I spent almost two quarters dumbfounded at the size difference.

Rudy Gay can score against anyone if he does not settle for jumpers. Marc Gasol will annoy you to know end, but you can't help but like him. In fact, I like their whole team. If offense was all that was required, I would love them. Even with the fact that the game has two ends of the floor, I can still root for the Griz most any night but tonight.

Keys to the game:

1. Know that you have mismatches. Exploit said mismatches.

2. Limit Memphis to one shot.

Heading back to Philips for the first time in a while, enjoy the game thread liberally. See you in the post game.

Go Hawks!

JSmoove

First.

I’m afraid the Memphis style of play is gonna bring out the evil side of JSmoove.

He’s gonna see Zbo and Rudy jacking up contested jumpers and get nostalgic. Memphis likes to turn games in to isolation and jumpshooting. Woody better be a man and keep him under control.

Another not "must win"...

but “can’t lose”. If we’re a potential top 3 seed, division winner, we win this game, and get a little Excessive Celebration to close it.

Potential to struggle here

It’s completely possible that the Hawks don’t realize how good the Grizzlies are because o the horrible start they got off to. But they’ve won 9 out of their last 15 and seem to have found a rhythm…it can’t hurt that AI is gone. They played a great game against Boston on Monday.

Not sure which way the Hawks out to attack. Mayo is only going to show a passing interest in stopping the ball, and Zach Randolph is really soft inside. Probably not going to be the best night for Horford, because Marc Gasol will bang with him, but if we let Josh drive inside all night, he should have some success.

Here’s something to ponder over the course of the game: Would you rather have Rudy Gay or Marvin Williams?

At least we're playing at home...

Randolph Morris won’t have to worry about getting kidnapped by the Grizzlies announcer.

I just poured my first beer.

Sweetwater IPA in my Atlanta Brewing pint glass. Both brought back to PA from the ATL.

Luck is on our side.

Keys to the game are getting more obvious and less informative

Eventually, keys to the game will be

1) Score more points than the opposition

2) Win.

woah

Fast pace by young guys. dejavue

WHERE are the Hawks fans?

Look at how many empty seats there are! It’s like an exhibition game.

by Erihury on Dec 16, 2009 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

'Nique says it but fails to realize the significance

Zach Randolf just made TWO passes on one possesion. Crazy.

by Bronn on Dec 16, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply actions

This is Hawks vs. Hawks lite

Our bench will have to be huge tonight

i remember

dunking with Bibby on NBA live 07 it might have been a glitch tho

by Erihury on Dec 16, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

More Josh

Less Al. This is one game where he doesn’t have a match-up advantage.

by Bronn on Dec 16, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

Dang

This is dejavue. its like seeing us from a couple years ago except were better now….

by Hawksgirl on Dec 16, 2009 7:21 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Ooooh

Smoove wakes the rim up

by Hawksgirl on Dec 16, 2009 7:23 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Seriously

Josh could do that every single possession tonight.

by Bronn on Dec 16, 2009 7:23 PM EST reply actions

I mean

Who’s going to slow him down? Neither Zach nor Gasol are athletic enough to do much about him, and Gay’s help defense is sparing.

by Bronn on Dec 16, 2009 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

I wonder if the (small) crowd size will affect the Hawks' play

Are there enough people there to cheer JSmith’s dunk just now?

by LibNat on Dec 16, 2009 7:23 PM EST reply actions

come on

Where are the plays?

by Hawksgirl on Dec 16, 2009 7:25 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Too fancy Josh

Just go up and put the ball in the hole.

by Bronn on Dec 16, 2009 7:25 PM EST reply actions

Smoove

block but they still score ugh

by Erihury on Dec 16, 2009 7:27 PM EST reply actions

I hope Woody does not get tight with the bench tonight

we can use our depth to wear down the Grizz. Going to be a 4 quarter game, would be nice to have the starters fresh down the stretch.

by Fred Pen on Dec 16, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

setbacks

Back to the present

by Hawksgirl on Dec 16, 2009 7:32 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Here's how to score 120 tonight

Get Josh Smith driving to the basket every single trip. Seriously.

by Bronn on Dec 16, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

Woodson puts in Bibby to keep Teague out of foul trouble. I take that as a good thing

by acie4mvp on Dec 16, 2009 7:42 PM EST reply actions

He only turned it over once. And that was his 2nd foul. So Woody now feels Teague is worthy of his 2 foul protection plan.
