Hawks Injury Report: None.

Blazers Injury Report: Francisco Garcia is out.

Blogging With the Enemy: Sactown Royalty (game preview here)

Predicted bane of the Hawks existence: Kevin Martin, SoCon for life!

Game Preview:

I must admit I hate the Kings. I mean that in the best possible way. I hate how Kevin Martin shoots 20 free throws every time we play him and Andres Nocioni goes crazy and makes everyone try and Spencer Hawes does something I can't make fun of and how if the Hawks lose tonight last night no longer matters. The Kings are not fun. This is a lose/yea that's what I thought game.

I am not even going to lie, I feel bad for Mike Bibby. With Tyreke Evans at point and the second game of a back to back, Bibby does not even have someone he can pretend to guard. I expect a serious Jeff Teague sighting and a lot of Joe Johnson/Jamal Crawford backcourts tonight. Go 4-5 in 16 minutes and call it a night Mike. Your too old to waste your time with the Kings anyway.

The Hawks need to play their game. They are better. Even if a couple guys on the Kings get hot, they are still better. A full games worth of focus and energy is all it takes. This one matters as much as last night. So things that should be avoided in no particular order are letdowns, Josh jumpshots, Nocioni angry spit, and Kevin Martin's leg kick.

Keys to the game:

  1. Dominate on offense. The Hawks could and probably should have the advantage at every position when they are on that side of the ball.
  2. Keep Kevin Martin off the free throw line. Dude is crafty. Martin lives there and will probably find away but a huge night from the field is much different if you never make it to the line. 15 for 30 from the field is only 30 points if you don't foul. And I didn't even need a calculator for that math.
  3. Limited turnovers. See that first key? Turnovers will make that one irrelevant.

No more messing around. I am in it for the long haul tonight. All four quarters. It is my symbolic support of the Hawks doing the same. See you in the game thread.

Go Hawks!

Sean May is still playing

i thought he ate himself out the league

by Erihury on Nov 4, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

He's even starting

Just to get a little perspective on how bad things are in Sac-Town right now. It’s like the Hawks about 7 years ago.

LOL

He actually gets paid a bonus to maintain his weight..How come i never get such deals???

Recap

I will ignore all negitive aspects of lasts nights game. I do that when we lose. Crawford – great ball. ZaZa geat ball. Josh – best game closing skills and energy I have seen in awhile. JJ came bk from very bad bame to fair-good game – awesome in crunch time. Al turned it around also.

My keys for tonights game

Rest JJ early and often.
Give Teague minutes early and often.
Time for Joe Smith, ZaZa to play more with first sighting from Crawford.
Evans is our hottest shooter by the numbers so far.

Conclusion? It’s bench night for the Hawks. And why not. they are good.

Still need to get Horf his minutes and opportunities

Also, we’d really like to see Marvin get his shots going.

or when sean gets his weight going, he really gets it going.

by hawksdawgs on Nov 4, 2009 10:31 PM EST reply actions

OK. Joe was awesome there.

Don’t care if he missed that shot.

by Duff_Man on Nov 4, 2009 10:38 PM EST reply actions

Okay

Woody’s realizing he tried to get too much burn out of his second unit, but he still manages to make the wrong sub, here.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 10:39 PM EST reply actions

That's a bit better

Horford needed to get back on the court.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

Right now

Joe is the main problem Joe has. He’s either overdribbling, or he’s taking the first chance he gets to shoot.

I really think it would be beneficial for him to let the offense come to him early in games. He seemed way too determined to drive on the first few possesions, and ended up with weird looks and turnovers.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

empty

by jeherv on Nov 4, 2009 10:45 PM EST reply actions

"3 defenders on joe

and he said you know what I am going to go with anyway"

not actually the best strategy

by hawksdawgs on Nov 4, 2009 10:46 PM EST reply actions

Here's the reason we don't see a lot of JJ post-ups

He has the clear advantage on Kevin MArtin, but he’s not really a great option out of the post, and the defense is going to collapse on him anytie he’s in deep position.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 10:47 PM EST reply actions

good josh smith

you are so fun. you make me and horfina happy.

by hawksdawgs on Nov 4, 2009 10:47 PM EST reply actions

Wow

It ’slike Nocioni actually wanted to just knock someone over.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 10:48 PM EST reply actions

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 10:48 PM EST reply actions

just gotta say “what would jc do?”

by eyy on Nov 4, 2009 10:49 PM EST reply actions

There’s no reason he should have missed that look.

Yeah

Rookies don’t get away with stuff like that.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 11:01 PM EST reply actions

joe

no one is having trouble scoring it…..so stop forcing.

by hawksdawgs on Nov 4, 2009 11:02 PM EST reply actions

On a back-to-back

name your top 5 guys who need to limit their minutes.

I’m guessing Josh Smith isn’t one of them.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 11:04 PM EST reply actions

taking a lead goin in the half

pretty good wish it was a bigger lead

by Erihury on Nov 4, 2009 11:08 PM EST reply actions

jamal crawford is 6-7

he should be shooting much more than joe until he starts missing.

by hawksdawgs on Nov 4, 2009 11:08 PM EST reply actions

Helps when Josh is on the floor

his help defense sets up transition opportunities, and his athleticism in the open court is a big advantage. Playing him only 10 first half minutes doesn’t help push the pace.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

I'm actually having a tough time expressing why I'm frustrated with this Hawks' offense

They’re shooting over 50%, no one is extremely inefficient (except for Joe Smith), and the turnovers aren’t terrible.

But, honestly, the Kings are playing so poorly on defense that the Hawks really could be doing much better than they are. The only thing in the stat column that sticks out is a really low assist rate (8 assists on 24 made baskets), but give the rest of the picture, the Hawks’ offense looks really good.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 11:13 PM EST reply actions

They played stagnant.

But it still worked for some reason. Joe’s game has me really mad right now. He’s been getting the ball and trying to just dribble and get his shots up. He’s becoming something of a black hole.

And it pained me like a bullet to type that.

by Duff_Man on Nov 4, 2009 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

His one assist is the same as Bibby

And he’s got 12 points on 10 shot attempts, which isn’t really bad. The only thing is that it looks like there’s so much more out there because of how bad the Kings’ defense is.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

I think thats not a bad strategy

let our starters play even with other teams 1s. Let our 2s dominate their 2s

HUGE shot by JC.

Only down 4 is amazing right now.

Who can we get to get us over the hump?

by Duff_Man on Nov 4, 2009 11:47 PM EST reply actions

This ain't Zaza's night

He’s not rebounding nearly as well as he needs to, and he’s almost a non-factor on defense against the type of bigs that Sacramento plays. He really needs to benched for the 4th.

by Bronn on Nov 4, 2009 11:48 PM EST reply actions

JC to Zaza

It’s just like, the best, man.

by Duff_Man on Nov 4, 2009 11:53 PM EST reply actions

by Bronn on Nov 5, 2009 12:02 AM EST reply actions

Really don't know why Horf hasn't topped 30 minutes in thsi game

On the surface, he matches up well with the Kings’ bigs, and it’s not like he needed a rest off a back-to-back. Hawks really need to take control of the boards.

by Bronn on Nov 5, 2009 12:06 AM EST reply actions

That about freaked me out

I thought one too many guys passed up a good look, there. Was going to pound something if Crawford missed that 3.

by Bronn on Nov 5, 2009 12:16 AM EST reply actions

take Joe out

give him a few secs to sit

by Erihury on Nov 5, 2009 12:20 AM EST reply actions

Rebound totals:

johnson: 8
bibby: 7
josh smith: 6
horford: 5
williams: 6
joe smith: 4

by eyy on Nov 5, 2009 12:20 AM EST reply actions

Joe. Worst fouler.

The point has been made early and often tonight.

by Duff_Man on Nov 5, 2009 12:21 AM EST reply actions

Game

this prob should have been easier

by Erihury on Nov 5, 2009 12:22 AM EST reply actions

Weird

Anyone see that next to last possession? JJ got trapped, ball was tipped to Bibby, and it was passed straight back to Joe in the exact same spot. He was on the verge of being trapped again before he finally got moving toward the basket.

by Bronn on Nov 5, 2009 12:23 AM EST reply actions

Iso-Joe is bad

passing and teamwork, along with jamal’s hot hand are what won us the game. Not isolations and lousy unopen 3’s when no one is near the basket. We have to learn our lessons here. We would’ve lost to anyone but the kings tonight

by coachkcastellon on Nov 5, 2009 12:25 AM EST up reply actions

man

Joe looks exhausted

by Erihury on Nov 5, 2009 12:24 AM EST reply actions

Another long game.

I am yet again floored by the fact that this team showed a resolve we’ve not seen in the past. Sign of a better team? I think it may be a great sign for the season.

by Duff_Man on Nov 5, 2009 12:25 AM EST reply actions

We should've won by 20

if we played better team basketball and cut down on turnovers

by coachkcastellon on Nov 5, 2009 12:26 AM EST up reply actions

James Varrett with

a very dumb first question. 2 wins in a back to back on the road and he complains about the Defense with the first question to Joe. Anyone but Joe would have chewed him out

by marvin's ladies of the night on Nov 5, 2009 12:25 AM EST reply actions

Josh

prob would have thrown his mouth piece at him

by Erihury on Nov 5, 2009 12:26 AM EST up reply actions

Josh played really well

Just limited by his fouls. only problem I have is he missed 2 free throws.

If you want more from him than 14 points on 9 shot attempts, 6 boards, 3 assists, 4 blocks, and 0 turnovers in 29 minutes, you’ve set your expectations way too high.

by Bronn on Nov 5, 2009 12:30 AM EST up reply actions

2-1 out West was worth staying up for.

One more road win would be awesome before coming home.

by Duff_Man on Nov 5, 2009 12:33 AM EST up reply actions

Interestingly, JJ played really well in the 4th quarter

But he was definitely gassed at the end. He needs to get a bit more of a break in Charlotte.

by Bronn on Nov 5, 2009 12:34 AM EST reply actions

With JC helping carry some of the offensive load, JJ should dominate most 4th qtrs. He still

kicks the ball out too late when he is doubled and he never tries to split the double.

by xavip on Nov 5, 2009 12:42 AM EST up reply actions

we need a scapegoat

why wasn’t this game easier i blame Woody and Kevin Martin damn you to hell this should have been easier. Mike Woodsen should be our permanent scapegoat
