Game Preview:

How does a let down game happen? Come off an emotional win (last second if possible), play the second of a back to back on the road, lull yourself to the sleep with the opposing star player out, and ride in to the game feeling like world beaters.

So basically I expect a close game. 82 games is not a grind because shooters get tired of shooting or rebounds get tougher to grab. No, 82 games is hard to stay mentally focused and driven day in and day out. The Hawks have another challenge tonight. If everyone expects them to win, they probably do to, and that breeds lackadaisical effort. Most of us know what that looks like in a Hawks uniform, and it ain't pretty.

There is one key to this game focus and energy. Ok that might actually be two so lets just combine them.

Key to the game:

  1. Fonergy

Comment of the Rockets' game thread to Buzzsaw with,

"Even though Budinger was an all American volleyball player, if a volleyball match broke out at Phillips, I’m pretty sure we’d absolutely dominate."

See you in the comment thread from Taco Mac.  Go Hawks!

There is one big reason for the Hawks to be motivated tonight.

They have four days off after this game. They know as well as we do that if they win this game, they will be the reigning kings of the NBA for at least four more days. They can taste the opportunity to bask in their glory. Just one more game.

The Hornets got lucky to win the Suns, a slower, less athletic version of the Hawks. That game will serve to shock the Hornets with our athleticism, allow us to take an early lead, and cruise. The Hornets have no business winning three straight, especially not against the best team in the league.

good point.

48 minutes of hell and give them a day off tomorrow.

by hawksdawgs on Nov 21, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

Sure their inner thighs will be burning.....

but we don’t care we want a win and we want it now!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

by dstdeelite on Nov 21, 2009 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

Believe me

I’ve considered Josh Smith’s burning loins.

by Buzzsaw on Nov 21, 2009 6:45 PM EST up reply actions

Would you rather lose at home or away?

Answer: Neither….This team has proven they can beat any team in the league, if they put forth the effort. I know we will lose eventually, but would I rather lose this one or the one on Thanksgiving? Would it feel better to stop the streak at 7 or 17? Would it hurt any less? I don’t know if my rising expectations for this team is a good thing or a bad thing. They just need to remain focused and do they things that has gotten them thus far. Don’t underestimate a team with nothing to lose. Remain focused and put them away early. Marvin needs to hang over Peja like a cheap suit. Go Hawks!!!!

Should be fun game...

Looking forward to entertaining one, Go Hawks!

by Jeremiah88 on Nov 21, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

looking forward to this one

Though all these previous games have been quite crazy. we know their gonna win so it gets nonchalant then they almost lose and it gets personal. I wonder which one tonight will be, personal or nonchalant

I know I'm not the only who was watching the blooper show

And obviously, Sports TV is not for everyone-most especially those who have difficulties speaking.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

ummm question

Why is it that when we dominate the east we are lucky? I mean yea boston and orlando are good but they didnt win a title last year either and their obviously not in the top spot. why cant we just be allowed to swim in this pool of “i told you so?”

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:09 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Love it.

why cant we just be allowed to swim in this pool of "i told you so?

by RivBoatGambler on Nov 21, 2009 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:15 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Hmmm

No one is in a hurry to score points in this game..

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:17 PM EST reply actions

al!

Al can take a jumpshot all day, but josh not so much

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:19 PM EST via mobile reply actions

And after two quick fouls

The Hawks sub out their entire offense, thus far.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions

josh drains both wow

He pushed josh…….time to morph into smoove!…..maybe….possibly…

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:23 PM EST via mobile reply actions

yay

Cant lose bibby. He is a key to the nucleus as well

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:25 PM EST via mobile reply actions

i like jj's effort

But not his passes to josh though! ugh

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:26 PM EST via mobile reply actions

.......

Josh sinks the free throws…or not. but had good form

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:32 PM EST via mobile reply actions

okay crawford

And he is close to the rack

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:33 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Mo with the follow

nice to see him do something

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 8:38 PM EST reply actions

crap

the offense looks terrible like 04 terrible

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 8:39 PM EST reply actions

damnit bibby

Now im scared for real.

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:39 PM EST via mobile reply actions

This is like the game yesterday:

If Joe is playing abysmally, why does he still get ridiculous minutes?

by coachkcastellon on Nov 21, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions

Everytime

i see JC take a 3 he always falls down

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 8:44 PM EST reply actions

defense

Rebound anyone?

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:46 PM EST via mobile reply actions

This is a mess

Worse than anything I could have imagined for this game

by coachkcastellon on Nov 21, 2009 8:47 PM EST reply actions

Crap

team looks lackluster tired i can see why that game last night was brutal i think we kinda knew this could happen

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions

Is it really surprising that we're not very good without the starting frontcourt?

I don’t know why Josh is sitting at this point-he barely played yesterday. And, at some point, Horford has to come back in.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions

Horford, in 4:35

6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, on 3-4 shooting.

I say, put him on the floor and risk letting him foul out, if you must. It’s not like 2 fouls really means he’s in foul trouble.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions

eh

atleast were not the NJ Nets

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 8:50 PM EST reply actions

man we need a spark....

I already miss bibby..i hope he isnt hurt bad. maybe back next game hopefully

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 8:51 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Really, really not liking the body language with Josh

What the hell is going on with him? He spent that entire offensive possession walking slowly around in the corner.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:51 PM EST reply actions

Where is Smoove?

You’d think at least he’d show up since he got so few minutes yesterday

by coachkcastellon on Nov 21, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

Watching Josh's body language since he got subbed back in

It’s not looking good. I have a suspicion that good Josh didn’t make the trip.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 8:55 PM EST reply actions

Me too

Right after I bought a Smith swingman jersey too….

by coachkcastellon on Nov 21, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

Ok

looks like the team is putting it together alittle

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:00 PM EST reply actions

damn josh

Smooth couldnt be here. he just stood there and watched the guy take a layup

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 9:02 PM EST via mobile reply actions   1 recs

omg i totally

expected Josh to take a jumper

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:08 PM EST reply actions

I guess another good way to look at it is

that no matter what stupid and unmotivating stuff Woodson says there’s no way that we can come out worse.

No way.

by coachkcastellon on Nov 21, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions

i want my bibby back, bibby back

he can be a liability on d, but he does make the o flow. teaugue isn’t yet ready for real minutes with a top nba team.

by hawksgate on Nov 21, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

agreed. had to be scared about this one. new orleans looked so bad only a week ago.

by hawksgate on Nov 21, 2009 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

Al

bad shot selection

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:28 PM EST reply actions

JJ

cant buy a shot right now

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:29 PM EST reply actions

chris paul ever a hawk?

not trying to bring up bad draft decisions, but is there anyway this could happen 2-3 years down the road?

by hawksgate on Nov 21, 2009 9:31 PM EST reply actions

what is wrong with josh?

He not jammin and he wasnt runnin on the fastbreak. I hate when he has the “i dont care” attitude as if the world revolves around him

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 9:33 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Looks like

he forgot he had a game tonight, had big plans, and then realized he has to work. He’d rather be somewhere else.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

the Hawks

don’t seem interested in this game they are prob looking ahead to the break and the thanksgiving game

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:35 PM EST reply actions

Think Woodson finally sent Josh a message

After he didn’t get back on defense, about 4 possessions ago, he’s been subbed out for Joe Smith. I was tired of watching him stroll up and down the floor.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 9:39 PM EST reply actions

oh im pissed

Win or no this was a bullshit effort. you cant win in the 4th all the time

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 9:40 PM EST via mobile reply actions

wow

we cant defend that 3 whatsoever

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

seriously!

Left dude wide open

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 9:41 PM EST via mobile reply actions

looks like

we are just preparing for Thanksgiving

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Hawks, as a team

only shooting 34.4% from 3 on the year. Only 2-15 tonight.

We can’t live outside, guys.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 9:44 PM EST reply actions

yea it really looks

like they are tired and not trying tonight

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:47 PM EST reply actions

seriously

Now im just annoyed. but its like dejavue three nights in a row

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 9:49 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I've had days like this

Had a tough day, then had to come back the day after-didn’t care, just went through the motions until I could go home, just hoping no one notice that I didn’t care.

It’s garbage when I do it, and I don’t make thousands per day, and there’s no cameras where I work.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

Man

i didn’t think we would miss Bibby this much

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

Let's just go with the bench for the rest of this one

if they come back, nice, but you have to put this one on the schedule makers. No need to keep gassing our starters.

by Fred Pen on Nov 21, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

Take Josh

out we don’t need more injuries in meaningless games

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:55 PM EST reply actions

well after this game we have a nice

long break hopefully Bibby can get healthy

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

you win some you lose some yada yada

But never in a million years would i have thought we would lose a game this way

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 9:57 PM EST via mobile reply actions

wth

we cant buy a foul tonight

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 10:02 PM EST reply actions

that was bad Josh

not even an attempt to challenge the shot

by dmortone on Nov 21, 2009 10:06 PM EST reply actions

funny

Joe saw Josh open on the wing and gave it to someone else i would have done the same

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 10:07 PM EST reply actions

Good night

Good start for the Hawks, but it looks like we have hit the “Nets” point in our season again. No way a lousy team should be handling us like this

by coachkcastellon on Nov 21, 2009 10:08 PM EST reply actions

i just started watching the game

I’m just going to assume that the hawks were tired, plus the hornets were prolly dogging it before Byron Scott was fired and might be better than their record

by dmortone on Nov 21, 2009 10:09 PM EST reply actions

Yea

the Hornets looks like they actually tried tonight lets not take this loss to serious noone can win them all

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 10:10 PM EST reply actions

yea well you know how it is

i mean the celtics have lost a few so have the cavs and missing Bibby is gonna be big if its for thursdays game no one else can run the point like him

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

Losing is okay

Bringing a garbage effort (with the exception of Marvin and Jamal) just makes me wonder why I’m watching.

by Bronn on Nov 21, 2009 10:13 PM EST reply actions

yay more time to play

we can take more jumpers make our stats look even worse then they were already

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 10:18 PM EST reply actions

ehhh we came out

flat as week old soda tonight well get them next game

by Erihury on Nov 21, 2009 10:20 PM EST reply actions

well

Bright side we have 3 losses like everyone else and were human of course downside is that orlando will kill us even in atlanta if we play like we did tonite. other than that, on to the next game. 1e had to lose sometime and its not like we went down 5 spots anyway

by Hawksgirl on Nov 21, 2009 10:28 PM EST via mobile reply actions

This game really goes to show you

how fluid Bibby keeps the offense. This game was a recipe for failure. Coming off a back to back, emotionally charged game on the road with a starter out due to injury. They were licking their chops waiting on us. When a team shoots that many 3s in a game, they’re bound to win. The refs weren’t kind either. Reminiscent of the Charlotte game when they couldn’t miss. It happens. We sulk tonight and get back at it tomorrow. Now we can come off our high horses and get back to work. Maybe Bibby’s ankle will be ready to go on Thursday. Hell, maybe they’ll all be ready to go. Tell Josh to pick up Smoove on his way back to the A.
