Blogger MVP and ROY Rankings, Round 2
The inaugural edition of this post garnered much more interest than I anticipated. Well versed in learning from my mistakes, Round 2 will be somewhat less tossed off.
First, the results, smoothly presented by Mr. Rob Mahoney at Upside and Motor.
Next, my ballot (submitted on the morning of December 1st) in full with accompanying commentary...
MVP
1. LeBron James
2. Dwyane Wade
3. Chris Paul
4. Dwight Howard
5. Kobe Bryant
6. Chris Bosh
7. Tim Duncan
8. Brandon Roy
9. Devin Harris
10. Amare Stoudemire
I suspect I'm still underrating good players on excellent defensive teams, a flaw which, were it corrected, possibly see improved positioning for Howard, Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Yao Ming, Pau Gasol, Jason Terry, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and (if you'll allow a somewhat elastic definition of excellent defense) Danny Granger.
I really wanted to find room for Chauncey Billups who is doing excellent things in Denver. I suspect he'll play his way onto this list sooner rather than later.
Honorable mention to the guys playing truly good basketball for truly bad teams: Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, Al Jefferson, and Andris Biedrins.
ROY
1. OJ Mayo
2. Derrick Rose
3. Marc Gasol
4. Rudy Fernandez
5. George Hill
I've flipped Mayo and Rose back and forth all week before settling on this for no good reason. Gasol's a clear 3rd right now while DJ Augustin, Michael Beasley, Brook Lopez, Mario Chalmers, and Jason Thompson all have a case for making the bottom of the ballot.
If Anthony Morrow (probably unlikely) and Greg Oden (likely, very likely) continue to play well as they accumulate playing time they will add to the difficulty of completing this ballot.
Honorable mention to Luc Richard Mbah a Moute whose defense is going a long way toward keeping the Milwaukee Bucks competitive in Michael Redd's absence.

Rudy Fernandez is much better than I anticipated. When I heard about the injury to Martell Webster, I thought we’d finally see Travis Outlaw emerge as a legitimate third or even second option to Brandon Roy. But Fernandez has been so good shooting the ball and making plays that you can’t keep him off the court.
Conspicuously absent from your rankings is DJ Augustin, who looked more like Chris Paul when he played against the Hawks a couple of weeks ago. I never saw his speed and shooting translating to the NBA, but he’s playing well enough that Charlotte needs to look to move Raymond Felton.
And the basketball gods may smite me for this, but at the point in the season, I don’t see how you can have Kobe ahead of Chris Bosh for the MVP.

MVP - ROY
Chris Paul and Rudy Fernandez.
I think Rose will win ROY, but I wouldn’t mind Morrow giving it a push, for the obvious reasons.
