MVP

um, no Joe? I accept this type of bias nationally, but I’m disappointed. But I appreciate your honesty. I could argue Joe has done more than Devin Harris or Brandon Roy.

Quite Frankly...

Joe Johnson has more talent around him than Devin Harris.

Yes, I mean it.

Beyond that, I feel like Joe needs to pick up his game just a little bit to get into the MVP discussion. Early on he was shooting like nuts and racking up assists as well-if he could get back to that, he’d be among the favorites.

An addendum

His 3 point shooting has really fallen off since the game against the Pacers. After that game he was shooting over 50% on the season (I think…my memory is a bit fuzzy). Since then he’s struggled with his jumper-I think he’s been hurt-and it’s a big part of the team’s shooting struggles overall.

MVP & ROY

I think your list is spot on. I might put Bosh a little higher — I think he deserves serious consideration with the performances he’s been putting up. His problem is that the team has taken a step back from last season. But it’s pretty indisputable that Lebron is MVP right now.

As for ROY, Mayo and Rose are head an shoulders above everyone else. I think the nod should go to Rose, who is putting up insane numbers for a rookie PG, historically speaking. And he’s got a garbage team and situation around him (not that Memphis is something elite — but you got Memphis at 9-16, pretty much out of the Western playoff race already, but the Bulls are still in the hunt).

I agree, Bronn, that Joe can’t be in the running unless he returns to “first 6 games” form, when he was playing out of this world.

Yeah

I forgot about the fact that I’m really pushing for Bosh to get some consideration as well. Nice recognition by Bret to put him above Kobe on this one.

Unfortunate, the rest of this little blogosphere still collectively ranks Kobe 6 spots higher.

Hey

Sorry, I’m not giving this up. Joe’s team has a better record than 5 of those guys on your list. And the Hawks are only .5 game back from the Spurs/Tim Duncan.

Now I’m not going to say Joe is more valuable to his team than D Wade or Bosh. But Joe ALWAYS takes our last shots. And Joe ALWAYS guards the other team’s best perimeter player.

I’m not here to argue that Joe belongs in Lebron/D Wade/Kobe discussion. But I think he needs recognition despite the fact that we think he can all play better. The fact remains that he’s the Hawks best offensive and best perimeter defensive player. And as long as we keep winning, he deserves to be in this discussion.

I'm flattered

that my 10th place MVP vote in a poll inspires such a good discussion.

Harris was the last guy I definitely had on my ballot. Roy, Joe Johnson, Billups, Garnett, and Stoudemire were the guys I considered for the final spot on my ballot. I don’t really have a good reason (other than needing to send in my ballot before the deadline) for picking Roy out of that group.

I promise to plan ahead and be more thorough when the next voting cycle commences.

hilarious

i wasn’t trying to provoke WWIII. just some insightful debate. i’m just saying…

bosh is the leader of a 10-14 team. i could argue JJ has been MORE VALUABLE, especially with Smoove’s injury. same can be said for d. wade, dirk, devin and roy. hawks have better records than any of those. and none of those guys lost their 2nd best player for a month.

i tend to overlook JJ’s skills/impact at times, and I know that you do nothing of the sort. So I’m not pointing fingers. Just some food for thought.

GO HAWKS

Where is Joe Johnson name. Joe has talent Devin Harris is lame and he sucks. And JOE JOHNSON is MVP type. I agree with the Kobe and Lebron but Devin Harris.
