Blogging With the Enemy: Third Quarter Collapse

Welcome to the inaugural game thread at Peachtree Hoops. You'll see one of these at least 82 times this season. Consider this the spot to share any pre-game, in-game, or post-game comments.

As the season gears up, I expect it get a bit busier around here so I'll offer this brief primer on how to get the most out of Peachtree Hoops.

  • Is there a topic you wish to bring up? Don't wait for me.  Write a FanPost.
  • Found a good link, video, or picture? Share it in a FanShot.
  • If you read a comment, a FanPost, or a FanShot you like and think others would benefit from reading, recommend it by hitting the "Rec" button located beneath the FanPost or FanShot or behind the "actions" button beneath each comment.
  • Following the game on the move or at the game and have something to say? Peachtree Hoops is available for you mobile device at mobile.peachtreehoops.com. More info on this feature available here.

A game recap thread will be up (barring unforeseen complications) the morning following every game with a more formal examination of the previous night's events featuring links to the box score and the gameflow, stats, quotes, and analysis. Speaking of which, I've got my final pre-season poll (though the voting on this one will remain open for awhile), one which allows you, dear reader, to provide me with some guidance as to what you wish read and/or see regularly in the game recaps. As always any elaborations are welcome (or, in this case, if you wish to vote for more than one feature please let me know) in the comments.

Josh Smith Jumper Log

I fear that’d cause you a severe headache, so I voted for the Mario West Stopper Scorecard.

I am excited about reading the game thread as I will be trying to perform surgery on my own blog tonight so I will have to check in periodically. I never went ahead and splurged on the NBA league pass on directv so unfortunately my Hawks watching is not going to be what it should be. Oh well, too bad.

And maybe instead of the Josh Smith jump shot log you should just do a Josh Smith 3 point log where you dissect the tragedy of each and every 3 pointer he attempts this season (if around 100 that is like 1.2 a game or so?)

There should be a free preview of League Pass available to everyone* this week.

everyone does not include me and probably several other Comcast customers

Not to be overlooked tonight

is ’Nique’s debut as the color commentator.

He made it

but I hate Smith taking that long 2pt shot even more than the 3pt attempts.

by Hoopinion on Oct 29, 2008 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

And who's the Hawks #1, anyway?

Per that commercial that was just on, doesn’t ‘shocking the world’ involve actually winning the series? heh

Josh smith -

Playing like he’s read all the negatives and wants to prove something – i’m really impressed with his hustle!

This reminds me of the Falcons opener...

Much longer season in bball obviously but I remember the same “oh sh-t” feeling before the season then they actually come out and play well.

Road win against

a mid-playoff seed team, double-double and a lot of hard work for josh smith – there’s a lot to like here….

Great defensive performance

Especially from Josh Smith. At least one of his blocks was against Howard, and I think there was another one later. He was really everywhere.

And for those keeping track of the Mario West Defensive Stopper log, he went 2:48 with a blocked shot and was +8 on the night. That should count in the positives.

For me at least

the defensive stopper scorecard applies only to those end-of-quarter possessions where Woodson puts a cold West in to guard the opposing teams best perimeter player for 8 seconds or some such.

Woody

I liked the idea of keeping track of how many coach errors cost the Hawks a W this year, but the West works well also. Also, I really enjoyed Nique as color guy…seemed a bit more critical with keen insights than Smitty or the Stinger. That said, still miss Smitty tho. I also get the feeling Flip Murray is the most popular player on the team.

Yea there was a lot of Flip Murray love going around last night for sure. Nique did great I thought, always great to see him, and then we also get some Stinger in the studio.
